This is awesome! great work. Looking at the way you've laid it out, this is going to be very easy to print and produce just the sort of effect I was after (built, not printed in one go)

I'm not sure Sharkey's book should be relied upon as Gospel, for fairly obvious reasons for those who have read it - the combination of his constant (I'm re-reading it now and highlighting, it's literally every page) criticism of every person and decision who didn't see his way of thinking and his set of priorities and self promotion as the best pilot in the task force, if not the Fleet Air Arm (recall how he immediately dismisses assessments by SHAR pilots back in the UK as "not exactly the aces of the base") really makes it hard to consider it a credible account, which is a shame because I'm sure a lot of it is a truthful retelling.

Sikorsky bombards Polish helicopter tender
Chris1012 replied to Bucic's topic in Military and Aviation
well, if EC725 is the preferred aircraft, AW101 is probably just in a different class - AW101's empty weight isn't that far off the EC725's max takeoff weight. That said, AW101 would seem to me to be a closer replacement for the Mi17... -
That would be its over its VNE at its max ceiling. Pretty optimistic.

What is this "smoke" inside F16 cockpit??
Chris1012 replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in Military and Aviation
A mishap not long ago occurred when the cockpit filled with fog on touchdown... -
Duck walks into a bar and asks for a beer, the barman, astounded shouts out "holy shit a talking duck!" the duck, having heard this before sits down and explains his life story, how he was bred in a science lab, taught to speak and then when the lab was shut down he was cast out into the world on his own. The Barman, clearly amazed says "you should join the circus, it'd be just the job for you!" the duck, confused replies "why would the circus need a plasterer?"

I can't figure out if this is a good F16 block 60 documentary or a good Red Flag documentary :D

Took a hit and upgraded, my problem was 1.5 would only load 1 in 100 tries and crash frequently. Updated to Win 10, now loads 1 in 2 and crashes less. Significant advantage in stability with a small but noticeable performance hit. Be warned, updating to Windows 10 means you will only be able to use runtime 0.7 - Elite will now not work. Patch is apparently coming in December (I can see myself playing nothing but DCS until then :D ) Windows 10 is free to genuine win7 users.
-
I get the same error - I just about gave up and then it just worked... once. 1 in 10 attempts loads and when quitting a mission back to menu, it crashes again. On the 1 in 10 tho, I freakin love this game.

[CLOSED] Oculus Rift - Rift view washed out
Chris1012 replied to RoyMi6's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
same for me 0.7 runtime Rift DK2 -
I stopped the Oculus 0.7 service, game now loads.
-
Ran once, got an instant mission (soooo Purdy), updated rift to 0.7 and restarted now I get this. Verifying cache at the moment on steam and downloading the beta. (this is not a complaint :) ) ** Verifying the game cache did not work. will rule out my setup before submitting logs

A10's didn't have a on board oxygen generator until recently (2011-2015), the oxygen had to be carried on board - this dude's either filling her up, offloading it or some combination of the two.

Longer version: *Edit* wait, that's a different video, here's another one with the same title :D

what it looks like when a jet gets hit
Chris1012 replied to SDsc0rch's topic in Military and Aviation
This is a great vid for this: Skip to 4.07 to see an interesting one, they don't always just fly straight and level waiting to be hit :D -
Interesting, looks like Mk26B, a kit 90%(?) size reproduction. Got anymore info? They don't seem to last particularly well, the first one to fly in the UK had a mishap on it's first flight. I'm seriously thinking about buying a share in one but it just looks like it'll get pranged pretty quickly.

Aircraft will always want to point into wind, you have to keep the aircraft in balance using all the tools available, including the rudder. if you want to turn, you wouldn't use only the rudder. How does a rudder work? introducing drag on one side of the aircraft inefficient by nature. How would you actually do it? As you say, coordinated turns with stick and rudder. You would do a stall turn just on the rudder, if you wanted your passengers to vomit... Messing with throttle, especially on jet engines rather than using a bit of rudder sounds like a particularly silly thing to do - asymmetric thrust kills people.

Meh, The US said they destroyed it in place, then it showed up on a low loader in Baghdad. Then it was supposed to have been destroyed later. Then the Americans showed up, not on a low loader in Baghdad. The crew said it was mechanical and not combat related - the Iraqi's disagreed. On that night quite a few apaches were hit though...

UK May Buy Apache Guardian and NOT the upgraded AH1
Chris1012 replied to twobells's topic in Military and Aviation
Afghan's put some hours on them and because we customised them, they are at heart Block 1 AH64D's, which the US are abandoning support for within the next five years. E's are also adding some funky capabilities but at rather a high cost. -
played the demo on the DK2, this is a poster project for VR. Only thing I've backed on Kickstater...

Just gave it a try on AMD and still getting a black screen, this just me of is the expectation still for this to be resolved in DCS 2?
