  1. No, it's responsible for renaming a folder that causes it's customers untold amounts of grief though.
  2. Yeah and I have enough to do without having to spend hours editing all my mods and finding workarounds for the tools that no longer work because someone couldn't live with an incorrectly named folder and just had to rename it, regardless of the difficulties it would cause users. Shows total disregard for customers.
  3. This change benefits no-one though. Quite the contrary. I've tried downgrading with "dcs_updater update :1.2.10.30996.495" but it keeps throwing up an error "ERROR: Can't move S:\Games\DCS World\_downloads\Mods/aircrafts/Su-25T/Cockpit/Resources/Model/Shape/Cockpit_Su-25T.EDM to S:\Games\DCS World\Mods/aircrafts/Su-25T/Cockpit/Resources/Model/Shape/Cockpit_Su-25T.EDM: (3) The system cannot find the path specified." Something weird's going on, as I renamed aircraft to aircrafts before running the updater to downgrade but a lot of the files now appear to be hardlinks and link back to themselves and to files in the Recycle bin.
  4. Well hows that for customer service! Who cares whether a folder name is a typo, compared to breaking all our mods/tools and requiring untold man-hours to sort it all out.
  5. Can we have an immediate hotfix to rename mods\aircraft back to aircrafts please? I hope this was a mistake and someone didn't just decide aircraft sounded better and didn't stop to think of all the problems changing it would cause, such as making tools like EMC stop working and all our JSGME-mod folders require renaming of that folder, which will take ages to do one by one. If there isn't going to be an immediate hotfix, can someone please tell me how to downgrade to the previous version so that I can enable my mods for my online session tonight?
  6. Ah I see, thanks. That will be better as we currently are able to stop/start various virtual servers via a web interface, so hopefully DCS will be able to integrated into that as one of the options too. However, doesn't "render3D = false;" stop DCS from "rendering game graphics on the server"?
  7. Thanks for this. I might see if my group can run a DCS server on their hosted server rather than on one of the player's PCs. I'm a bit confused though, as I read that Dedicated Server might be coming with, or soon after, EDGE/DCS v2 but if we already have the ability to run one, what are we expecting that's new?
  8. Yeah, it works fine with Fire mapped to Y. BIGNEWY, could you report this bug please, as it's not a great introduction to DCS to find the training missions can't be played with the default keymapping ;)
  9. OK, I'll try mapping fire to y instead of space. I did think about that "space to continue" being the cause of the bug.
  10. +1. You can even export the relevant part of the registry, edit the drive letter/path with find+replace in notepad++ and import it back in. Serves as a handy backup if you need to reinstall windows as well, to save having to reactivate all your modules.
  11. Thanks for the tip. I can't really do that though as I'm using Xpadder so that I can shift the buttons and double them up and if I map Fire to a button in DCS then I can't use the shift state to use it for something else as well, which I need to do as there's not many buttons on my Sidewinder FFB2.
  12. Thanks for the kind words and for giving me hope ;) I'm sure it would require a lot of coding to implement but hopefully ED will consider it sometime, when they're not so busy. I don't see how it would affect the patching system though, as my suggestion would just allow us to put all our tweaks (which are just variables at the end of the day) in a file, or files, in Saved Games\DCS\Config, rather than having to modify files in the DCS install folder. So it shouldn't make any difference to how DCS updates it's files.
  13. Does no-one else see the problems with the current system and the potential benefits of my suggestion? If it couldn't work for some reason, feel free to explain why so that I can resign myself to having to put up with how it is ;)
  14. I support this request for tabs on the kneeboard. IRL you could have cardboard tabs in a folder or just flick over a bunch of pages at a time if you have a rough idea where the page you're looking for is.
  15. I've done a full uninstall/reinstall of DCS (for other reasons) and tested with no mods and it still doesn't work. I can fire the 29L and 25ML in a non-training mission I tried, so perhaps someone could check this, as it seems the training mission is bugged and that's not a good introduction to DCS.
  16. That's still fiddly and tedious having to select each key in turn and not much better than using the dropdown. All it needs is a "Click Here" box and after clicking on it, it lets you hold down multiple keys (i.e. LCtrl+LAlt+Home) and then enters the keys that were held when you release them all. Sounds cool. I'm using this Panasonic Electret Condenser Mic capsule http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110573001571?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT, which I stuck in an adjustable boom arm that I ripped off a rubbish £3 headet and have attached to my Samson SR850 headphones with some velcro. It's noticeably clearer than any other headset mics I've used, including my Creative Fatality headset but it's probably let down by the PC mic input, which is a bit hissy (as they always are in my experience). That's where USB headsets have the advantage I guess, as they have a built-in preamp and ADC and then just send digital data to the PC. Of course, that doesn't mean that the preamp will be any better than the soundcard and might be just as hissy but if done properly it offers the opportunity to provide a much cleaner sound.
  17. I remember my Mum gave me some ginger drink before a school trip in a minibus once, as it was supposed to help with travel sickness. Man, I don't think I'd ever barfed so much before. Luckily they managed to stop the minibus in time for me to jump out and use a hedge :)
  18. Thanks for the info, very interesting. Yeah, I remember HL2 being really bad for this, made me all clammy and nauseous if I played it too long but so have quite a few games :puke:
  19. Some games make me feel really sick after only a short time even on a monitor/TV, so I hate to think what I'll be like with the Rift :( My friend has the same problem, so it's not just me. He's convinced it's something to do with the predominant colours in the game, for him at least, so if there's a lot of browny shades he's more inclined to feel ill. I can't remember whether he said it was fine for him and he could play it for hours or if it was a problem game for him but I recall him mentioning Unreal Tournament. Most recently, it was triggered for me after about 5 minutes of Ether one, running at 1280x720 and 90 FOV on my TV. I wasn't monitoring the FPS, so I'll have to check what it runs at to see if that's an issue.
  20. No, Windows 8.1 did a pretty good job of resetting itself and installing most of the drivers when I rebooted after upgrading. I only had to manually install a few drivers (sound, NIC, Intel chipset). I made a True Image backup in case that didn't work and I needed to do a Universal Restore but it wasn't necessary in the end. I wouldn't expect Windows 7 to be so easy but I read that it had been improved with Windows 8.1, so thought I'd try it. Anyway, the time server error that DCS was throwing up disappeared after I deleted the old registry entries (I kept the F-86 and Mi-8 ones as I'd successfully activated them today, it was just the older modules that were already installed before I upgraded that were having problems), so it seems that error message was a bit misleading.
  21. Thanks. Yeah, it seems even uninstalling doesn't wipe that. Wish I'd known about that a couple of hours ago, I probably didn't need to delete all the files after all, just delete the registry keys.
  22. Darn it. I deleted everything in the DCS folder, including the mods folder and reinstalled after downloading the current version and it's still throwing up the same errors when I try and activate my old modules :( Maybe there's something messed up in the registry. I'll try using the Uninstall shortcut and reinstalling again.
