[CLOSED]A-10A locks up as soon as it starts
doveman replied to Razgriz1's topic in A-10A for DCS World
I waited a bit but maybe it needs even longer. If there's an issue with just the A-10A though, I guess it should be fixable. I don't think it's related to RWR finding threats for me as I'm starting on the ground, so there shouldn't be any threats that close but I can't be sure. -
Place screen in the Z as well as X, Y coordinate
doveman replied to doveman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ah, OK. So looking at 3Cameras.lua, does "viewDx = -1;" make that screen show a view 90 degrees to the left of the main screen and "viewDx = 1;" make it show a view 90 degrees to the right of the main screen? At least that allows us to have monitors directly to our left and right but I imagine most people don't have room for that and would prefer to have a way to have the screens in front but angled in and have DCS render the correct views for that. -
Problem updating with default missions on different drive
doveman replied to doveman's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thanks for the idea but I don't think that will work actually. Although that will allow me to make a Junction to Backup\ in Saved Games\DCS\ and thus it will be on the same drive as the missions and so shouldn't throw up an error when moving those, if it needs to move a file from the install folder to backup, that will involve moving files between drives and so we'll get the error then instead. -
I was wondering about how to tell DCS to render a specific point in space on the side monitors so that they show the left and right windows but I presume this would need the ability to specify a z co-ordinate and DCS only seems to provide for x and y. I see lots of people have threee screens in a line but the outer two angled in a bit. Are all three monitors just rendering the view in front of the aircraft, i.e. all in the same z-plane, in which case surely angling in the two outer monitors is distorting the view as they're not actually showing any side view but are positioned as if they were? I'm sure some sims must provide for specifying the z co-ordinate, as I've seen cockpits with front windscreens with the outer parts angled in and then further windows at 90 degrees left and right of the pilot but maybe this can only be done with professional sims. Would be cool if we could do it in DCS though, even if we had to run an extra instance per monitor, that only rendered the view and doesn't do any of the other calculations that can be left to the main instance. X-Plane works like this I believe, although it's a bit fiddly at the moment as it doesn't provide a way to specify which display each instance should run on and is designed for running each display from a separate PC.

The default missions often consist of videos and take up over 7GB (FC-3, KA-50, SU-25T) which I can't spare on my SSD, so I've moved them to my Saved Games folder. So I have Saved Games\DCS\Missions\FC-3\Default Mission\EN\ and then I make a Junction to that in my DCS install folder. I was using Symbolic Links before, which worked but I found they didn't with X-Plane, so I switched to using Junctions for everything. This works fine except for when I go to update DCS, as it wants to copy some of the missions to a _backup00x folder and throws up an error about not being able to copy from one drive to another. The only way round this I've found so far is to delete the Junctions, copy all the missions back to the original places (so it doesn't have to download them all again), do the update, copy any new/updated files back to Saved Games and then recreate the Junctions again. This is obviously tedious, so I was wondering if anyone can think of a better solution, or maybe only ED can fix this by changing something in their update code?

[CLOSED]A-10A locks up as soon as it starts
doveman replied to Razgriz1's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Thanks, that one was in fact quite messed up, no doubt as a result of me starting but not finishing editing it manually. I didn't really think it would fix my problem (and it didn't), as I'm not using that config, just the 1Camera one but it's good to fix things, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. :) I compared the dcs.log from running F-15C and A-10A (.old in attached) and strangely there are DXRenderer errors with F-15C, which works but not with the A-10A, which doesn't! In the me.log, the A-10A has something about removing tempmission.miz and using another file, which seems wrong, as tempmission.miz (created in my temp folder) appears to be what's created when making a Fast Mission and MG.miz is in my Saved Games\DCS\Missions folder, so I can't think why it would be loading that. [CLOSED]A-10A locks up as soon as it starts
doveman replied to Razgriz1's topic in A-10A for DCS World
[REPORTED]A-10A locks up as soon as it starts I've just been looking at the F-15C and SU-25T for the first time and they work fine but when I load the A-10A (just creating a fast mission), as soon as it starts, after I click fly, it just locks up and I can't even change the view and have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to Task Manager and kill DCS, which is stuck on about 25% CPU. I've attached the most recent and previous me.log and dcs.log in case someone can decipher them and find the cause. Of course, the first thing I suspected was mods (there was one that was causing F-15C not to work but I haven't narrowed it down to which one exactly) but I've disabled them all now and it hasn't made any difference. I've just noticed that under Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input there appears to be a folder for everything but A-10A, unless that's just using Default. me.txt dcs.txt me.log.txt dcs.log.txt -
I was wondering about this, how to tell DCS to render a specific view on the side monitors so that they show the left and right windows. I presume there's somewhere I'd need to specify some sort of 3D coordinate to tell it which part of the world view to render? I see lots of people have threee screens in a line but the outer two angled in a bit. Are all three monitors just rendering the view in front of the aircraft, i.e. all in the same z-plane, in which case surely angling in the two outer monitors is distorting the view as they're not showing any of the side view but are positioned as if they were? Is there a way to specify where the side monitor's render starts and ends in the x, y and z planes, so that the view rendered accurately matches their positioning/angle?

Thanks aeliusg. Yeah, the jitter's not that bad, I just wanted to check it wasn't just me that had it. If it's normal, I can live with it and it's probably not having any effect on my flying as you say :) I think I'll open them up and see if I can see what's causing the scraping on the left pedal, as it feels a bit annoying and might also be wearing stuff unnecessarily. It might be I just need to put some decent lubricant in there. My tensioning wheel is totally fused to the bottom of the wheel now though it seems. It worked normally before I took them apart, so I can only guess I misaligned it wrongly when I put it back on and as a result, some part is joining them together like this. If it was normal to stop working after removing the spring I wouldn't worry about it but it obviously isn't, so I ought to get it sorted out.

New MP server - launch DCS with no graphic card
doveman replied to galevsky06's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
As far as I know, remotefx only works with virtualised windows 7 running under Server 2012, although I think win 8.1 enterprise might work as well now. -
I have a 2gb 6950 running one 1080p monitor and I have similar problems, so I wouldn't waste your money upgrading your card for now.
-
Advantage compared to what? I mean surely if you've mapped all the buttons to the various aircraft, in dcs, then you can fly them without restarting dcs?
-
Well the OP didn't consider the pilot's skill but as i have trouble against non-moving ground targets I expect any other chopper would find it quite easy to beat me!

Samson sr850 are great cans which cost me £30 and have been said to be as good as any under 200USD

Thanks G00dnight, will do

I'm having a bit of trouble with this. When I launch it, it says "Defined monitor config file is not present in your game folder! Run DCS and change your Monitor configuration" but I have no idea what it means. Then it says "LUA files for DCS A10-C need to be installed. Do you want to install them now" even though I've already said yes on previous runs. Then it only shows me tabs for KA-50 and misc (I've got A-10, Huey and FC3 modules as well). If I click on misc it usually crashes and closes EMC, referring to Line 9762 ine EMC.exe "Error: subscript used with non-Array variable" but if it doesn't, when I switch back to the KA-50 tab, it says I need to install the KA-50 LUA files, no matter how many times I've already said yes. I want to setup the exports to use with Helios profiles for the KA-50, UH-1H and A-10C (and the FC3 aircraft if there are any for those) and it will be a lot easier with EMC, if I can get it working that is.

Well I got them back together thankfully. I used a rubber band in place of the spring but I don't think I've done it right as I didn't really understand what I was meant to do from reading this http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63870 and we don't have Sizes for rubber bands over here, just 150mmx3mm, 170mmx3mm, etc, so I just joined the two plastic parts with a not too tight rubber band but it feels a bit too loose. Strangley, I still have a centre detent, albeit a lot less pronounced than it was before but it certainly has a notch there that I can feel, which I thought the part I removed was meant to eliminate completely. I'm not sure if the rubber band could be causing this but it seems unlikely as the spring is a lot stronger. I've also found the tension wheel won't turn at all now either. I'm not sure if that is because it adjusted the spring, which I've removed, or if I've done something wrong but trying to turn it just turns the whole center wheel, which is connected to and moves the pedals in turn. The left pedal feels like it's scraping a bit on something at certain points as well, although it might have been like that before and I just didn't notice due to the tension from the spring. EDIT: I don't know if this is different as I never looked at this screen before but if I go to Properties - Deadzones for the pedals, there's quite a bit of jitter at certain points, actually it seems pretty much half of the range between each mark shows this jitter whilst the rest is stable. Maybe it's not read that precisely in DCS though and it doesn't matter? I'd appreciate if others could check whether they see this.

Yeah, I might just put some rubber bands over the two parts that the spring was connecting to each other, I presume that will do the trick :) Ah phew, found this picture, which does show that part sitting on top of the ring, so that's cool. No idea what purpose it serves though! http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=8320&d=1395097402 I was quite astonished how flimsy the wires coming from the pedals and the crossbar are. The latter in particular seems to run worryingly close to the gears and looks like it might get caught in them quite easily. I would have thought they could have secured the wires from the pedals (which I assume are for the toebrakes) in a fixed place at the top of each side and then used a metal rail running along the slot to carry the electrical signal from the toebrake, wherever the pedal is, to those wires. What do I know though!

It all looked so easy, lol. I ended up having to prise the spring off with a screwdriver and I scraped half the skin off my finger in the process but I got there at last but man, so much grease everywhere, so slippery! Putting it back together it was quite hard getting the metal bar back in and I had to take the plastic bar off a few times and readjust it until I could get it to push through. I'm just left with this part now, which I think goes on top of the ring which the metal bar goes through but I'm not sure as I don't see it in any of the pictures, so perhaps it fell out from somewhere else! Hoping someone knows and can advise me so that I can put my pedals back together. Not looking forward to putting that spring back on though! I like the sound of doing the rubber band thing instead as I mostly fly helos but there don't seem to be any pictures showing what to do with the Saitek pedals, only for the CH stick.

Thanks for the photos NeilWillis, some clever ideas you've shown there. Unfortunately, my Dad's rather fond of his desk (not to mention annoyingly stubborn) and won't take kindly to the suggestion of cutting a big hole in it ;) So I have to find a way to keep everything above it. His study is also tiny and barely bigger than his desk, so no room to have a separate area for general use, which is obviously preferable, where possible, to trying to make one position work for both purposes but that's what I have to do. I'm hoping I can manage by putting the lower screen at a greater tilt (which should be OK as my Dad will be sitting much closer, almost above it, compared to your setup where you're sitting further back), so that it sits lower and thus the upper screen can be kept low enough for both general use and simming but if not, I'll have to find some way to be able to move the lower screen between say 60 degrees and 10 degrees tilt. The touchscreen monitors have stands that allow this but my Dad doesn't really need one of those for his X-plane, so I can't justify spending £150-200 when I can get him a 21.5" IPS like this for £87 http://www.ebuyer.com/643301-hanns-g-hs221hpb-21-5-led-ips-dvi-hdmi-monitor-hs221hpb So I wonder if anyone clever here can think of a way to make a DIY stand to do this? So basically it sits upright (or at 10 degrees) and just in front of the upper monitor (partially blocking it but that doesn't matter as when the lower monitor's like that, it will be the main monitor for general use and I can always put the upper monitor on height adjustable pole, so that it can be raised up and used as a secondary monitor) and then the bottom edge is pulled forward, making the top edge go down but stay near the upper monitor, till it's at about 60 degrees. It would be OK if he has to unlatch it to adjust it but I want to avoid having anything protruding far in front of it when it's in the upright position, as he'll need the deskspace for documents then.

Yeah, I prefer real controls as well but as you say, there's practical issues with that, so a touchscreen seems a good workaround, for now at least, that will let me swap between aircraft by just loading a different Helios profile. I'll probably build a physical panel for some of the rotary controls at least though, as they're particularly annoying to try and operate on-screen.

I don't have too low volume or noises when moving my mouse. Even if bass is 10% lower than it should be, that hardly seems like a good enough reason to spend £30. Downside with cards is no multi streaming but I guess you can use the card for speakers and onboard for comms headset.

I tend to fly the KA-50 mostly at the moment but am getting into other aircraft, so sometimes I'll need to show the ABRIS and other times MFDs, so a touchscreen's more suitable for me. The P2314T does have worse dot pitch (0.265 mm) than the S2240T (0.248 mm) but I don't know if that will matter and I imagine the lower response time will be more important.
