  1. Thank you. I wouldn't have thought to look there. Honestly when something like that happens they should send out a second email explaining it so that everyone sees it. In today's environment people are understandably paranoid.
  2. Can I ask where you heard that from? I had looked over the recent posts and didn't see anything about this.
  3. I didn't see anything outright malicious in the email body. Just the tracking image which at worst just lets someone know you saw it. I'm more concerned with WHY this email got sent as it could **potentially** mean ED has been compromised in some way.
  4. Unfortunately since I have DCS setup as "trusted" in GMail, the tracking image was automatically loaded. I may have to rethink that setting now :(
  5. I can provide the raw email content if requested, but all the body contains is what appears to be a tracking image from: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/bitrix/tools/track_mail_read.php?tag=sender.eyJSRUNJUElFTlRfSUQiOiIxNzU5NzI4NyJ9
  6. I received an mail today from DCS world that raised flags in my head. As far as I can tel it did come from DCS world, unless the address was spoofed, but it had just a title, no text in the body, and an invisible image in the body. From: DCS World <noreply@digitalcombatsimulator.com> Subject: Interesting offer here Body: No text, but an invisible image
  7. Thanks so much for posting this! I am in the early stages of building my first panel and I know this will be super helpful.
  8. Oh certainly and this is what I am doing for now, mainly as I don't have space for a 1:1 pit. But imagine how much more immersion you would have if they did match up 1:1 with the in game pit.
  9. Only problem with using real world reference is I'm betting that DCS isn't exactly right, and at the end of the day what really matters is your cockpit matching the position of objects in the game, regardless of accuracy to the real thing or not.
  10. Yeah that's why I think it would be great to be able to get the game's cockpit models extracted and into a cad program or at least a normal 3d modeler as a waystation. If we can get the actual game models then we can build a 1:1 cockpit based on them or at least real close.
  11. Very helpful stuff. These forums aren't great for code though. I'd suggest using Gist and then just linking them, as it will handle the code a lot better. Here is your last example, the radio panel for example: https://gist.github.com/jwvanderbeck/1d53fa5ed17917fced92c3212de117f9 I'll definitely be looking at that one as the first panels I want to make are tacan and radio since those are the worst in VR. Don't need a display though :)
  12. Do you have any particular sellers on AliExpress that you use frequently? I guess part of this too is just ordering some components from various places and seeing if you are happy with them or not. Like you say things like push buttons the feel is often very important, and you won't know if you like it or not until you try it.
  13. Here is a perfect example of what I mean: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5pcs-Rotary-encoder-with-switch-EC11-Audio-digital-potentiometer-20mm-handle/311425031956?hash=item488260df14:g:GnMAAOSwv-NWUrCs Supposedly an EC11 Rotary Encoder. Ok let's find the datasheet. Which specific EC11 is it? I pull up the entire EC11 series on a normal electronics website and try to find this specific one. Looks like a vertical mount, ok. Listing says "Pulse Number: 20" so presumably that means it has 20 pulses. But wait, there isn't a single EC11 with 20 pulses according to the official data. There are ones with 18 pulses, but not 20. So now I'm left wondering if it really is an EC11 at all. Is it just a mistake in the listing, or is it in fact not an EC11 but being marketed as such? Who knows, but since I don't know how can I model it up? If it was an official one I could even just download the provided CAD from the manufacturer. So yeah if anyone knows of specific eBay stores that sell components with proper details then I'd love those links. But eBay in general searching seems pretty crappy for me so far.
  14. Oh you misunderstand me. I don't have a problem with parts from China. Its more the sellers that I have a problem with on eBay is most of the listings I found through searches were just trash and didn't really have the detailed information I would want, like the data sheets do on an electronics store. If I can find good sellers with good listings then that would be a different story. I'll check out the link in your sig. So I guess what I am saying is that as a reference for builders of places to buy from, it would be nice to link to specific good eBay stores rather than just say "eBay".
  15. Problem I have with the stuff on eBay is you don't really know exactly what you are getting, so it isn't possible to look up data sheets. I've seen several items even where they claim it is one thing but when you look up the sheets on that thing it clearly isn't what they are selling. Since I am working up cad files its helpful to have all the dimension data.
  16. Curious what a "VR compatible" UFC would look like. Bigger buttons? Do your DDIs have bigger than normal buttons to better tolerate you groping at them?
  17. Well I'm designing all my parts from scratch in Fusion 360 so I just need to engineer in a join of some kind that's all. But it certainly would have been easier if it just fit :D
  18. Digikey. Wow that's some serious information overload. I love it.
  19. Hey all, I'm curious what are the more popular places builders around here use to source switches, buttons, rotary encoders, etc for panels?
  20. Figures my printer has a 120mm bed. Guess i'll be designing boxes in two pieces.
  21. Hahah I love those things. I don't even want to think how much time I might have spent removing boxes if they used traditional screws. Funny though I never had seen it spelled out before, so I always thought they were called Zeus fasteners lol. Great deep dive into something I always took for granted. The insight it gives into panel dimensions is genius too. Never would have thought of that. Thanks for the excellent link!
  22. Does anyone know what "standard" sizes are which are typically used for various cockpit modules on aircraft? I know they are all different sizes, but having worked on some of these decades ago when I was enlisted (EW systems), I know LRUs tended to come in various standard sizes and I'd imagine those in the cockpit are the same.
  23. I've spent the last week stumbling along in Fusion 360 but I think I finally have my first design finished. Will be printing up this weekend and hopefully it comes out right :)
  24. Is there any way to get the in game cockpit models out of the game if you wanted to build a 1:1 pit to match?
  25. So I've been printing like crazy with my new printer, just getting my feet wet and figuring things out. I have to say so far I've been very impressed with it. I got the Monoprice Select Mini v2 and its been running hard right out of the gate without really any problems.
