This may seem like a silly question about scenery, but I keep seeing the arials for Dubai on my AppleTV and the city looks so very cool and would be fun to fly over and through.

DCS World TARGET profile for TM Cougar and Warthog + MFDs

What is the best way to get the profile mapping images into a kneeboard? Since they are jpgs, the custom kneeboard builder doesn't seem to support them.- 2261 replies

Landing is hardest for me. I'm all over the place trying to stay lined up on the last few thousand feet or so.

Ah I thought it was one or the other. So what is the point of the option? :) I'll try it out in a bit when I go for my first flight of the day.- 2261 replies

Ahh so then I should probably turn off Use Mouse in the VR options?- 2261 replies

After running a couple worksheets I think that the a/c weight given in the mission editor is incorrect; on the low side. I'm seeing a few thousand pounds difference with various configurations. But its close, and to be fair I'm not sure of some of the specifics of how the DCS sim relates to reality for doing the sheets for example which type of JP is used, the fuel load (according to the t/o it can be two different loads), as well as which rails and launchers are used. So my margin of error is probably also a few thousand pounds.

My NWS always seems to work fine before takeoff but not after landing. After landing its always very intermittent and sometimes I have to release NWS and re-apply. Is it possible I'm actually breaking some mechanism of the aircraft in the sim with rough landing?
-
Thirded :) With no curve the slightest breath on my WH stick causes the F-5 to roll over nearly 90 degrees :p I'm currently flying with a 30 point curve.

No knocks here, but I find it amusing. Probably a norm for jets but this is my first (training on the F5 until the F16 comes out, or I break down and buy the F18 ). If I fly a mission without external tanks, its a 50/50 toss up if I'm going to find myself gliding to an emergency landing :D I really need to get better at being aware of my fuel level!

Hi guys I'm having an audio source problem with VAICOM PRO and not sure what to do to fix it. The problem is that all the audio coming from VAICOM/Voice Attack (VAICOM audio cues and Chatter plugin) always come from my PC's speakers rather than my headset (Rift S). DCS sounds are properly coming through my headset so I know it isn't a device problem. In VoiceAttack settings I've even tried forcing the audio output devices to the Rift S but the VAICOM audio still comes out of my speakers :(

Thanks! Getting the proper terminology here, radial in this case, helped me fine some good videos on intercepting VOR radials and I think I have a clearer understanding of the procedure now.

Hey guys, Not sure if there is a better sub forum for this, but here goes. One of the things I get a lot of enjoyment out of in DCS is flying as close as possible to real world procedures, even when it doesn't matter since I only play single player (so far). I know some things mostly about civil aviation, and a little Air Force because I served, but only as an enlisted on the ground (EW tech), but a lot of the more advanced things I'm trying real hard to learn. I've been flying around Nellis a lot lately with the F-5 as a sort of self imposed "Advanced Jet Training" course before the F-16 comes out and I'm trying to understand the DP charts that you can find on SkyVector. One of the things that confuses me is certain TACAN notation. Now I know the basics of TACAN and how to use it to find an airfield and in theory make an approach with it, though still really rough on implementation there. But the DP charts also use TACAN for indicating directions for departure but in a way that I'm not sure I understand. For example, looking at the DP for Nellis titled FYTTR FIVE (https://skyvector.com/files/tpp/1906/pdf/00227FYTTR.PDF) I see this for departure 21L/R: What does the R-### mean and why does the same TACAN station have different numbers there? My GUESS here, which may be completely wrong, is that the ### is a course to plug into the TACAN and you are looking to cross that, so different courses give you different crossings? If this is so, are you look for the deviation line to flip or something else? Any help would be most appreciated and even better if you know of a video covering this. Thanks!

So it is being caused by a Window's process called DasHost, which according to the interwebs is "used to connect wireless and wired devices to the Windows operating system, such as a printer or mouse." and can not be disabled. In my case though according to the system monitor, it was constantly connecting to "ryzen" which is my HTPC on the same network. I shut down the HTPC and the network traffic went away and DCS is smooth again.
-
Haven't tracked it down yet. Nothing is using an absurd amount of traffic, and I'll admit I have no idea why network activity would even cause FPS drop in the first place. Disgusting thing I *did* find though is DCS actually runs SLOWER in offline mode!
-
Well now. Interesting. So I haven't nailed down exactly what the cause of the problem is yet, but I did fix it and it was the darndest thing. After putting up a butt-ton of metrics on screen and trying to one eye the Oculus performance graph in the HMD while also looking at the other graphs on the monitor with the other eye I noticed two things: 1) There was a pattern. Approximately every 25 seconds there would be a dip, back to normal, then another dip 2 seconds later. Fine 25 seconds, dip, dip. Like clockwork. 2) There was a spike in network activity that matched up almost exactly with the spikes So first I clicked the icon to turn DCS into offline mode. That didn't seem to help, but I don't necessarily know how reliable that feature is, so next I unplugged the network cable from my machine. And bam, the down spikes were gone completely. Solid 80fps in menu, no dips. Solid 40fps in sim, no dips. So problem solved - sort of. I need to spend some time now seeing if I can find something that is causing said network spikes.

I was saying both that it is water cooled and that the temps are fine as I checked :) The CPU also isn't really working very hard. I just finished a clean install and fired up the TF-51 in Caucus (before re-installing any modules) and in a test mission CPU usage was around 20% the whole time. EDIT: Installing the F-5E and Nevada modules now to get back to my original baseline test setup

No doubt a reinstall of Windows would help in general but lord its so much work, plus you never get your system back the way you like it. I'm just avoiding it as long as I can :)
-
I'm fairly confidant that is not the case. I am quite computer literate (My day job is as a computer programmer) and am quite fanatic about keeping my systems clean. CPU is water cooled and is not throttling. I have already checked that. I did initially have some GPU thermal throttling but I resolved that. I have not seen any spikes in CPU or GPU utilization in my testing though admittedly VR makes that a bit harder. Initiall DCS was on a HDD but in troubleshooting this I moved it to a SSD with no change. I am, at this moment, in the process of fully reinstalling DCS World 2.5 from scratch (IE clean download) I've done mostly everything I can at this point, short of reinstalling Windows itself which is my absolute last resort. Especially given that I have no unexplained regular frame drops in any other games, including Elite Dangerous, X-Plane, and Star Citizen, all of which are very performance demanding. We'll see if this clean install of DCS makes any difference. I might try OCing the CPU slightly, as in theory I have the thermal headroom for it, but that all comes down to the silicone lottery and has potential for other instabilities. For reference: i7-4770k @3.9, 32gb RAM, GTX 1080ti, Rift S
-
For me there is something much more fundamentally wrong here. The frequent frame drops I experience appear to have nothing to do with game performance. Why do I say this? Because I can observe the same problem just sitting at the main menu holding my head perfectly still. Pull up the Oculus performance overlay and just watch the graph. Solid 80 FPS (Its 80 because I upgraded from CV1 to Rift S) normally, but every now and then (usually between 10-45 seconds apart) it clearly drops down to around 25 FPS for a moment before jumping back up to 80.

I set it up for VR by setting view mode 2, and I set up the hat to be trim first and mouse on shift, but while the trim works, I can't get the mouse to move at all when I hold the pinky switch and move the hat around. I'm fairly certain the shift works because the shift + china hat does operate the gear as indicated in the diagram. Any idea where I may have gone wrong?- 2261 replies

I set up a basic mission for my own flying around without any adversaries. I set up an F5 at Nellis on the ramp with centerline and pylon external tanks. Once in the air however, when I flipped on the external tanks I got a master caution saying the tanks were empty. Now when I set it up in the mission editor, I just clicked on my aircraft and then chose the preset from the left that had 3 tanks and tip mounted missiles. Was there something more I was supposed to do to actually have those tanks filled? Or do I need to explicitly tell ground crew to fill them once in the mission?
-
This is an incredibly well done and professional video. The infographics are very nice and helpful and the in cockpit instruction is on point. The only problem I had, sorry, was that I had a lot of trouble actually understanding you due to your accent :( I feel bad saying that, so please take it as the constructive criticism it is intended to be.
-
No you were not. You are 100% correct in what you said, and I appreciate you for saying it!
-
I have been using a mission I set up with engines running, so sounds like takeoff trim is automatically dialed in for me, so good to know! Thanks for that explanation. I am familiar with V2 and that makes sense. Very good point. Words have meaning and I should choose the correct ones.

This looks really awesome! I've skimmed the surface and am reading the docs now, but its clear you put one heck of a lot of work into this so thank you very much. EDIT: Got to the end of the docs and see now that there is prelim VR support so excellent! I apologize for not reading all hundred plus pages of this thread before asking this, but is this system good for use in VR workflows as well? I know in general there wouldn't be much difference, but mostly things like view handling and zooming would be.- 2261 replies
