  1. Never mind. Going through setup again and saving seemed to fix it.
  2. Well I had some great fun last night plotting units to take a town using one of the updated missions and then jumping in. The tension when approaching a ridge line, knowing there were tanks over the other side, watching my squad become exposed from plotting a little too close the edge and getting destroyed one by one, was awesome! A bit of switching from elevation to sat view in the map was common and needed. Flanked the town around to the left and picked off a number of arty units from the side, then firing laser guided rockets onto some Bradley's running down the road was really good. The AI don't seem to see you until a significant part of your tank is exposed which allowed me to peek and shoot without being spotted. Made it a turkey shoot at times. However when I got myself exposed a little too much I was suddenly looking down the barrel of a leopard tank and died. Had a great time!! That was just in single player with a slow to react AI opponent. Looking forward to some MP action and having air support taking out units just over the rise, which you know will have you for breakfast if you take a peek, will be great!
  3. I was in a CA mission and jumped into the SU25T. Although there are no differential brake pedal axis available in the setup for the SU25T when I push on them they cause motion on the flight stick.
  4. Awesome. Just adding a tinfoil hat to my signature now.:D
  5. Oh and the shadows under the main wing and missing under carriage doors.
  6. The prop blade thickness and tail shadow on 88 are "correct". The other two don't have them.
  7. Well you clearly have a deep passion for this topic and this aspect of DCS flight sims and I appreciate your clarification of where you are coming from. Sure, sound quality can always be improved in every sim out there and yes, you have valid points but please don't make the assumption that other users don't know what a real jet sounds like or that devs are being held back from their work by the marketing department. There are more positive ways of providing customer feedback and suggesting improvements and your technical detail is great but the finger pointing and commentary isn't.
  8. Hell, if you were really outside from the viewpoint of the externals when the afterburner was on the wind noise would be deafening as well so the whole argument is based on a virtual perception of what it "should sound like" if we could be outside flying alongside and have no wind noise either. I'm lost on what other sounds could possibly be heard if this is about sound in externals. Maybe in cockpit? With noise cancelling headset and helmet yeah the afterburners would be a deep rumble and much quieter I'm sure.
  9. Looking closer in editor I found that there are two versions of missions 17, 18 and 19. The usual campaign mission name convention in this series is: Mission ** - Name.miz Note the space each side of the dash. Eg. Mission 17 - Bombs.miz Mission 17- Bombs.miz Mission 18 - Bombs with More Difficulty.miz Mission 18- Bombs with More Difficulty.miz Mission 19 - Bombs With Moving Targets.miz Mission 19- Bombs With Moving Targets.miz In the editor the mission files with the missing space ie Mission17- Bombs.miz and Mission18- Bombs with More Difficulty.miz have the target ground units spaced far apart. The other two mission files have the target units in a close group which would much more easily be able to be destroyed with a bomb drop and I think are the correct missions especially as the mission name also matches campaign convention. The campaign refers to the files with the missing space and as such have the target units spaced too far apart to successfully complete the mission. I can't see a difference between the two Mission 19 versions in the editor myself. Can someone else confirm they see the same duplicates? I guess they are left over version made during campaign testing and the campaign references the wrong mission files? At least for these few.

  11. Almost every time in the first bombing mission in the challenge campaign DCS just locks up as soon as I click button to release bombs. I hear the 'clunk' of the release but just a big freeze right there with engine sound audio just looping on. I'm forced to Ctl-Alt-Del back to windows which gives me the (advanced) message above when I go to kill it off. First and only mission this has happened in and appears to be happening almost consistently with this mission only (so far).DxDiag.txt
  12. Looks just awesome and is way beyond expectations!! A new black hole for time has been created. Will be very interested to see what the server limits will be in regards to players, objects, AI A/C. etc. Can flights/missions be planned and plotted on the go as well or does the direct control just apply to the ground war only? Are all enemy units visible on map or does fog of war change how they appear or not appear at all? I haven't gotten into this aspect in DCS so not sure how this operates now let alone in CA.
  13. I can't believe that US fighters are the only options in the poll. As if everyone only has a preference for US fighters to be the next plane. Sad and irritating to say the least to see such a narrow minded view point being pushed as the only direction for DCS.
  14. Thanks for the reply EtherealN. I understand the recommendation for the 64 bit system and clearly that is what most users are on these days and is the future for flight sims. My comments were made in full understanding of the recommended system specs. I do however disagree that it is only a minority of XP 32 users who have a problem with the sim. I believe that XP users are already a small minority of the user base anyway. If someone has got it working on XP then good luck to them. Clearly there is some issue that mine and others have that there is no clear resolution for us yet other than the suggestions already posted which clearly don't work for a number of people. I posted my specs and crash reports in another thread with no reply but all considered I'll give up on trying to get it running with XP. I have found and purchased as cheap an upgrade option to Win 7 as possible (family upgrade pack for $174AUS) and will look forward to reinstalling on an updated 64 bit system soon. Clearly that should resolve any problems and I'll be able to run P51 and improved A10C and BS2 as well. Cheers.
  15. Yeah that's the crunch though isn't it. Either ED supports XP/32bit users who are still using that OS or completely abandon any idea that P51 or any new DCS product will work with XP 32 and state clearly that it they are 64 bit apps only. Problem solved. Sure, we could spend the extra $230 or so on Win7 64 and a few days to backup, install new OS and all the other programs to a point where we may be now and THEN be able fly with DCS World and P51. I understand that. The line that some users "may" be get the program to work in 32 bit mode but it is not supported is better than saying it DOES work in XP 32 bit when many users can't get it to work. I think 64 bit should be the published minimum requirement for P51 if only to ensure 32 bit OS users are under no illusions that they can run it ok.
  16. Yes Jimmy, seems to be the same for a number of XP users myself included despite following all recommendations. :-(
  17. Yes I have the same problem. Any mission I can find either from the training, generated or P51 campaign missions causes CTD when near to 100% loading. I have not had a serial no. verification window pop up yet which I believe is supposed to happen first mission. Crash files and DXDiag file attached. Yes my system is XP 32bit but is running in 3G mode (as in Nates sig) and can run A10C and BS2 although at poor frame rates. FC2 and BS1 run very well. Me.log was last attempt. Crash file was made earlier with same result. No crash file has been created since this one that I can see. In XP the location I got log files was from C:\Documents and Settings\Pete\My Documents\My Games\DCS\Logs I understand that 32 bit is a hit and miss affair but info is supplied if only to narrow down why some 32 users cannot run the sim. DCS-20120514-060442.crash.txt me.log.txt DxDiag.txt
  18. Be fun to sneak up on an unsuspecting A10C pilot at low alt and spank him!!
  19. Think of one of the Bill et John video's (can't remember if it was 1 or 2) and the A10A commercial that just pops up in the middle of it.
  20. I think it would be easier and actually in the realm of reality to just expand DCS's capability into the FPS level in game. The IL2 mod community has made drivable jeeps which made the landscape huge when your running around at that level and actually quite hairy when close to an active battlefield. The object detail in DCS is actually very good close up and spawning in to man a AAA position, be a manpad or ride in a BMP manning the gun into the battlefield. It would look awesome and proof is there it can be done. Imagine hiding in the tress and walking out to lock up a Blackshark or low flying A10C (as some people just can't help themselves ;-) ) with your shoulder launched SAM? No it wouldn't have all the detail and capabilities of ArmA but it would achieve close to the desired effect IMO.
  21. He should send one of these to Bill Gates while he's at it. Oh and Sony for that matter.
  22. Gentlemen, it is a dead horse. It won't get up and win the Melbourne Cup no matter how much you flog it.
