  1. Feel free to use the MP Server Bulletin thread we created. We are trying to make it a resource for finding and advertising servers that are up and flying the P-51. LINK TO THREAD
  2. That would be pretty cool to use the Civilian option in the ME to change between a modern P-51 with a GPS and more advanced radio and a lean mean WW2 fighter. She's a timeless bird and although I prefer the vintage configuration, using a four frequency radio in a modern environment is a bit silly. Can we have 150 octane for the WW2 variant? :)
  3. I believe the priority is to reduce the severely adverse effect the Fuselage tank has on CG immediately. Once that tank has been reduced a decent amount you can move to the drop tanks. I have read time and time again were combat pilots would NEVER want to get jumped with fuel in that center tank. Against a good pilot you were toast. Also in RL you would want to reduce the fuel level a little bit early on in the Left Main tank as your fuel vapor return leads there. You could actually recapture a small amount of your unburned fuel over the course of a mission. Like WildBill said, they would burn a drop tank until the engine started to sputter and then switch. After the drops were gone pilots would switch between the two mains every 10-15 minutes to keep the weight evenly distributed. I have also read how some pilots used differing approaches but the fear was that you can't jettison the fuselage tank so it would spell disaster if it was full during an engagement. Apparently, several found out the hard way.
  4. ATTENTION P-51 PILOTS//// A few of us are flying on the FLYING LEGENDS server. (Time now is 02:30 GMT)
  5. AND as far as first things to check after being hit? FIRST check for Pilot loss of fluids. Then Oil pressure, Fuel pressure followed by Coolant temp and Oil temp. I'd skip actually checking the fuel levels while in the heat of combat. You will immediately know if you're out of fuel or have a fuel distribution issue if your fuel pressure gauge is tanked. (which is a quick glance)
  6. The most interesting part is that you can get shot from the rear and still lose your prop governor. That is one hell of a bullet :) Also I'm still wondering how you can lose your gun sight so easily. It's one of the most commonly damaged items from what I've seen, which doesn't seem right.
  7. Same deal, but there would still be some real value in refining it. I will try out that program for sure after seeing that review from you, David. The only thing I don't like, and it's just me being picky, is that after you verbally say the command (For instance from the radio menu) then the sim repeats with it's own sound recording of that same radio call. Is there any way to disable those pilot voice files so you would just hear the response from the recipient?
  8. Thanks for checking it out. No argument with those scenarios. The AI wingman will break off and engage if told to do so. I agree that the commands are clunky but I myself don't have an easy solution for that. Voice recognition would be pretty amazing but are we there yet? I can picture myself screaming... ENGAGE! you dumb son of a b!+#$!!!! :D My main issue was strictly the primary wingman duties... staying close and covering you while you focus on targets. I'd suggest creating a mission where you have multiple bandits in the area on different vectors. Then pick one and give chase. Shortly after an enemy AI should try to move on your six... and promptly litter you with bullets. From my experience your wingman is just sitting back recording it for his next youtube upload. "Oh wait, you wanted me to engage the guy that was trying to kill you? My bad."
  9. It would be of great use and would be much appreciated!
  10. Awesome. It's not a huge problem but I think will go a long way in terms of giving the WW2 stuff the right feel. Also maybe a level of unpredictability could be factored in somehow. All wingmen are not created equal.
  11. Yessir. I understand the tactics are quite different between the DCS aircraft types... so it wasn't a knock. Just maybe a hint or suggestion. I did try the radio commands and I am able to turn the wingman loose to hunt bandits and sometimes get him to rejoin but I guess what I'm hoping for is more of the "stay close and cover my tail" role. I don't think I've ever witnessed a benefit from having an AI wingman (flying the P-51) unless I ran out of ammo and had him finish off someone on command. The other interesting part is that the AI have some special understanding were the enemy AI will go out of its way to kill me first then other AI. Makes entering a large swirling dogfight pretty much certain death as they are all lined up waiting for a chance to play "kill the human." :megalol: Just my observations.
  12. Am I missing some important part in the ME or are AI wingmen pretty much useless right now? I've tried tweaking a few variables but nothing seems to help much. They will stay in the general vicinity for the most part but I've never seen one act like an actual wingman. I realize it may be a slightly more complex AI routine but it seems do-able. Maybe based on fairly tight formation holding where the AI could calculate threats focused on the leader relative to formation spacing limitations? I think the priority would be sticking to the leader like glue, but a few shots fired at a hungry pursuer would be nice and would surely help immersion. Maybe even an audible warning to liven things up? I have big dreams. :sorcerer:
  13. Roger that. I do appreciate the info and your willingness to help us figure out what options we have as we continue down this road. We may not have a dedicated server right off but like you said, it's a start.
  14. Hey guys, In an attempt to get the ball rolling with possible server solutions and a place for us all to call home for our beloved Mustang and the other thoroughbreds on their way to the stable, we wanted to create a flyers bulletin type thread. There are a bunch of us that want this to become more than a novelty item and would like to push towards a solid foothold where the WW2 community within the DCS family can settle in. So, we had an initial pow-wow today and Mr. MACADEMIC came up with a suggestion to start a thread to basically give a heads up when individuals plan on hosting personal servers and such. Unfortunately, I've noticed there aren't too many us who can play all day every day so hopefully this can help a little towards organized sessions and foster some good camaraderie. For example, Today DAVID RED was kind enough to create a pretty awesome mission and host it on his machine. At 16:00 GMT we met up on FLYING LEGENDS (Great name by the way, David) and spent some time chatting and tearing around the landscape. I know personally, I've spent too much time punching that SEARCH button in MP looking for ANYTHING that says P-51 :megalol: So it will be good to know what's going on. This is the infancy, but I do believe ED has opened Pandoras Box by offering WW2 aircraft and with the obvious scope of this project I think we all can help move it in the right direction. If this Bulletin Board concept exist somewhere else in the forum please let me know and we can go there. -Merlin /// PLEASE ADHERE TO THE "5-LINE" FORMATTING SHOWN BELOW WHEN POSTING ABOUT A SERVER: 1. Server Name (And IP address if available) 2. Scheduled Start Time (GMT) & Date (Wednesday 19 JUNE) 3. Estimated Duration (Hours) 4. Full Realism Settings (If otherwise, must be stated on this line) 5. Mission Type (A2G-Co, A2G-Vs, A2A-Co, A2A-Vs, Training, Mixed or All Mission types) After this you can include other pertinent info about the server.
  15. As far as the real thing I remember reading about the offset vertical tail surface but not sure about the engine mount.
  16. Yes she does! Very nice work. Looks quite convincing. And it doesn't appear to tank the framerate too much either.
  17. FLAK! cool. Then you must be providing bombers too :)
  18. Are you positive there is an instant action confrontation with the 190? I never saw it implemented and I just checked again to make sure. I only see the P-51D vs. P-51D in IA. I think it's only available through custom missions.
  19. but see if you say Corsair then what about F6F? The list is long. If all those modules WERE available I'd be broke.
  20. OMG please forgive me. I knew the list felt a little wrong. At this moment I'd like to use the excuse that the Spitfire is a given and should OBVIOUSLY be a priority...right along with grass runways. //please back away from the big bad ban button
  21. P-47 first pleaseeeee. :) If we had... P-51 FW-190 Me-109 P-47 P-38 Zero P-40 Laag-7 and the B-17, B-25 and Me-110. I'd be in heaven. Why are you looking at me like I'm crazy? How long could it take?
  22. I tried to avoid it. Me and my big mouth. I'd really like to be associated with something a little more constructive. Soooo back to our regularly scheduled forum topic...
  23. You are a tenacious one, aren't ya. That's a good thing... fighter pilots don't last long without confidence. I could care less about the highly fictional P-51 vs. A-10 matchup and my original mention of it was merely that it was a satisfying kill at the time to due to the nature of it and how it occurred. But, hopefully soon we will have a dedicated server up where you can show off those skills. :D What callsign do you go by online?
  24. haha Well I'm sorry we disagree, Bud. The satisfaction is still there.
  25. There is some satisfaction in taking out an enemy A-10 with the stang. One of my fav MP experiences so far. :)
