  1. I've seen some different behavior as well after 1.2.5. For me the AI 190 likes to do a steady climb to around 12,000 feet after taking some damage then eventually he does a steep dive to resume the fight.
  2. I think that is good advice about the mixture as everything in the actual documentation advises to use Auto-Rich on takeoff and landing. I remember you mentioning it on the server the other night and I have tried it since, but I see no signs of any performance gains in the sim from changing the mixture. As far as keeping the engine cool, it may have a gradual effect on engine temps but I didn't see anything change during my few tests. Anyone seen different?
  3. Hey now! I loved this one.
  4. Those are fightin' words! Cue Echo38 outrage... now. :)
  5. Haha well I don't think there is any way to deny the P-38. I definitely want a chance to drive the "fork tailed devil." However, that means I will have to come up with a Yoke solution for the full effect. Anyone thought about this?
  6. Fair enough. If you used WEP... you will get WEP. Checking the gauges is the best indicator, not examining the safety wire gate. The easiest way to tell if you are at Full Military Power is, as I stated, 61' and 3000 RPM OR we can just say Full Military Power is not equal to WEP.
  7. For the DCS P-51D it is 61' Manifold Pressure & 3000 RPM. It's the "redline" of the two gauges. Basically, both the Throttle and Prop Lever (RPM) full forward or "firewalled" without engaging WEP.
  8. Just a side note: Has anyone blown an engine at Full Military Power while actually getting good airflow over the coolant radiator? (rad full open as suggested by Yo-Yo) Not that it is recommended, but I've flown some pretty lengthy engagements with full power the entire time and no adverse effects. Now WEP is a different story, I'm quite certain that is caused by exceeding the limits of the engine internals and issues with fuel detonation. Not sure what octane fuel is modeled, but it did have a direct correlation with what maximum manifold pressure rating the engine obtained at the time.
  9. Haha I love this topic. It never gets old. I'm surprised no one has said P-47! I would love to take the Jug for a spin. So many great aircraft to choose from... I hope you are all eating well and getting exercise. This may take a while. :D
  10. You are right, there are not many WWII servers up yet. That was a big reason for the creation of this thread. Come on by and try out my server when you can, it's guns only. And you might want to remove the "bold" typeface on your posts. Gives the impression you are shouting at us :)
  11. After a good night of flying with a bunch of excellent pilots and some helpful feedback, I went ahead and made some changes to the server and the mission. Please let me know what kinds of experiences you've had on the server and what we can do to make it better. It was really great to see the intense aerial battles with everyone pushing the Stang to it's limits and I'm looking forward to more sessions like that. 1. Merlin's WWII Combat Server - River Raiders 7 2. Running now 3. 24/7 4. Full Realism Settings 5. Mission Type (A2A-Co, A2A-Vs, A2G-Co) Server Info: 6 Client (Air Start) & 4 Client (Ground Start) positions per side plus many random FW-190 and P-51 AI scattered around to contend with. Many are within trigger zones to keep things unpredictable to an extent. So, keep exploring the area between Beslan & Nalchik if you are looking for action. Recent Changes: - Reduced fuel load for air start aircraft. - Added Ground start options. - Eliminated all external views. - Live map info is set to fog-of-war. - Mission loading time improved by reducing files sizes. A2G Mission Objectives: (BLUE) Air support event at bridge crossing near Blue spawn point. Assist Blue forces east of the river in eliminating the red armor preventing the crossing. (BLUE) Search & Destroy mission at the city of Terek. Cause person of interest to flee their hiding spot in the city and then destroy the escaping vehicle. (RED) Find the captured radio installation in the mountain city of Zamankul. Disable the comms tower by destroying the operations tent below it. more to come...
  12. Awesome news. Good things coming. I seem to recall statements from back in the day issued by German pilots referring to the Mustang cockpit as overly busy and some speculation as to how P-51 pilots found time to actually fly the plane :)
  13. At first glance the first one looks a little weird. 3D heli stuff has come a long way and can be pretty insane. The choice of location on the side of the road at night is a lil strange and I expected to see the grass move more with the inverted hover. If anything, I agree it looks like it was sped up a bit. The second video is more like the stuff I've seen before. Incredible skill to pull that off.
  14. Very interesting. I'm sure that is not easy to do. That is where the "feel" of the aircraft makes a huge difference. I think you meant "intents and purposes." I'm not trying to be a know-it-all but figured you'd want to be aware. :) LINK
  15. 38. Damn, I don't like seeing that number. I have a feeling I will miss it later as much as my 20's now.
  16. Narrow and splayed out. Not ideal for going straight and level on less than perfect forward airfields with a powerful engine. Every aircraft has it's quirks. Apparently the approach speed is pretty high for the 190. We will learn some tricks, I'm sure. I do have a love for the 109 myself. Amazing flying qualities and it is hard to argue with the combat record. It would be nice to experience the pleasure of being on the other side of that 20mm cannon too! Can't wait to work on some 190/109 skins!
  17. No problem. I hope it helps. It would be nice for us to enjoy some disabling "lucky hits" like the AI but for now you just have to weigh him down with lead until he falls out of the sky.
  18. Are you implying that you prefer the Me-109 landing gear? I shudder to think how difficult a fully simulated 109 takeoff would be. Even the guys with the actual seat-of-the-pants feel and their lives at stake had scores of mishaps. Well, as long as we have interesting things to discuss, all is good in DCS land.
  19. Here's mine. Yeager's AFT. Vintage 1987. IBM PS/2 I had it enshrined when I found it in an old box not long ago.
  20. I've never actually "seized" an engine this way, even when trying after reading this thread when it was first started. I have repeatedly flown inverted for much longer than 10 seconds with no long term issues. The engine will quit after the ten seconds as if starved for fuel but will restart on it own once you are upright again. If someone has burned up an engine like that I'd be curious how they did it. It's not really a big deal either way. I find it hard to imagine too many instances where you would run into the need to stay inverted... except for that Polaroid of the Mig pilot.:)
  21. Wasn't the question about the Korean War? I'm not aware of any F-4s being around at that time. Silly question anyways. However, thanks to DCS I bet you can settle it in the sky eventually.
  22. Oh yea, that makes sense. I've only had vehicles visible before being triggered. Sorry for the misinformation.
  23. Ok, I found a custom mission of mine to show that the AI boogie man isn't really that scary. This mission is one I created where you are faced with one High Skill level AI FW190D-9 (This seems to be even better than Excellent from my experience) at first... once you do any damage to him, another unit of the same type spawns a few miles away heading towards you at full speed. And the same thing applies to him, subsequently spawning a 3rd bandit from the direction of the enemy airfield. So, if you are not quick to kill, you will find yourself very busy. I attached the mission file as well to serve as a training tool if you like. It places a good emphasis on killing fast and efficiently. Now, as my disclaimer, my track displays less than perfect flying and my accuracy would make any self-respecting AI pilot wet itself laughing, however all three of these fellows enjoyed a nylon let-down as they watched their craft fall burning towards the sea. :D Enjoy. Oh, and amongst all of my little side projects, is an idea to work on some combat tutorials of some kind. I may have to collaborate with our communities finest. EDIT: Also you will notice my throttle handle jumping like it is very nervous. Please disregard. My custom USB throttle project is acting up. That is not intentional.:( Fw190shootout-triplekill-Merlin.trk 190-triplefaceoff-HIGH.miz
  24. Yes! It's good to be in the company of like-minded people who think the details are important.
  25. You can use late activation and choose the check box that says visible before start, I believe. Then the trigger with Group Activate.
