Mostly, the radial engine variety though. I am looking forward to the day, where the realistic AI damage model is implemented and smoke and fluid loss have an impact. And a tweak on ours were you can't lose manifold pressure and your prop governor from a single bullet originating from dead astern. That will be very cool.

Merlin's Combat Server Update: I added a second page on the mission brief with a map and a little info. Should help locate some targets. Took me a few tries to figure out the optimal resolution for those files but it should look better now.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! That one pair of AI 190's seemed to be a bit more challenging than I've seen before and we needed the extra help to finally knock them all down. Thanks for the files. I will check them out. We definitely saw some lag when a few people were firing at the same time last night but I'm not sure there is much we can do for that right now. Sorry I missed ya, Mac. The map may have been "used up" by that point, I will make sure we have some opponents for you and the new flight stick next time. :) I'm also going to make an informative briefing map and attempt a kneeboard to help direct people to the AI action if there are no other clients flying on the server. Excellent!

Inverted flight for >10 seconds...engine still runs?
Merlin-27 replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Is it possible to seize the engine this way in the sim? I've have tried to find a length of time before you cannot recover the engine after being inverted, but have not found any "breaking point" thus far. Just curious. -
Glad to hear it. I'm trying for a very immersive experience. Unless you are on TS you are only hearing the AI comms. I've incorporated some custom audio too... you just have to trigger it :smilewink: As far as human comms, we can hook you up with some Teamspeak access.

Glad to hear such loyalty to CH... Love mine. As for pedals, the Saitek combat pedals are great.

RE-posting for changes. 1. Merlin's COMBAT SERVER 2. Running now 3. 24/7 (For the Most Part) 4. Full Realism Settings 5. Mission Type (A2A-Co, A2A-Vs) Info: 6 Client positions per side (Air Start) plus some random AI to interfere a little. New Stuff: Air support event at bridge crossing near spawn point. Assist blue forces in eliminating the red armor preventing the crossing. EDIT: If you have the Bare Metal skin you should see that for the RED side P-51, if not you will see the default green skinned US paint for Germany. Anxiously awaiting the flyable replacement for those spots.

Agreed. I take the same approach toward taxiing. Never unlock. I'll wait until the ground crew yells at me for excessive wear on the tailwheel.

We've been down this road several times. :) I don't recall hearing an answer on it but I had the same inquiry. Doesn't match the advertised behavior of the remote compass per the flight manual.

There should be a verbal warning every time you fire up with that fuel equivalent of a boat anchor hanging off of your aircraft. "Sir, be careful out there. She's all full of fuel and a bit twitchy" :) The real life pilots surely didn't learn the Stang while carrying full fuel. Makes for a less than ideal first impression.

Dude! Very cool. I'd hate to see the range data for that big mofo. lol We shall call it The SuperMega-Flugzeugabwehrkanone Awesome work... please keep it up. Any progress on the flak project?

Thanks, Taffy. I am open to suggestions for the mission if you come up with anything. Yessir. Saw your name on the server log when I glanced at it. Thanks and feel free to send requests for content. Keep in mind it's a WIP. I'm trying to come up with stuff that could be easily interpreted as WW2-esque. Any 3D modelers out there making ground units? That would really make this amazing.

Keeps getting better. Looking forward to the final product!

Ok Gents, I have a dedicated machine running a very simple A2A mission. Will stay running with minor interruptions to tweak it a little here and there. Enjoy! 1. Merlin's COMBAT SERVER 2. Running now 3. 24/7 4. Full Realism Settings 5. Mission Type (A2A-Co, A2A-Vs) Info: 6 Client positions per side (Air Start) plus some random AI to interfere a little. EDIT: If you have the Bare Metal skin you should see that for the RED side P-51, if not you will see the default green skinned US paint for Germany. Anxiously awaiting the flyable replacement for those spots.

Not sure I'd call 400km/h "high speed" in the Mustang. Now, if you said 400mph I'd would be curious how the rudder reacts in relation to RL. I fly R/C as well. You are saying the rudder loses authority at high scale speeds? Have you seen seen Knife Edge maneuvers performed?

Good Luck with everything, Rock.

I've been wondering how it went as well :)

Guys, great to see all the excitement for the P-51D. You are right, the skies have been a bit lonely so far but there are people out there trying to bring it together. Keep an eye on the Combat Server Bulletin thread HERE if you prefer the combat/vintage WW2 environment or check out the the virtual acrobatics server if you prefer formation flying/acrobatics. They have quite an established setup over there and we will hopefully have a full-time combat server up before long.
-
That is generally correct from what I've seen. I don't see much of a reason to ever go below 2400 RPM. And the throttle is much more tolerant of quick movements than the RPM lever. Try not to bog down the engine ever... it will let you know when it's been mishandled.

I think this brings us to another WW2/Modern comparison. With lesser octane fuel ratings available, most classic Mustangs are not flown at full power. Recently, I read a really good historical document however that discussed the need for P-51 combat pilots to always take off at 61" or above. I think it was mainly to avoid spark plug fowling and subsequent disaster on take-off. EDIT: Spark plug FOULING. I'm not aware of any birds causing problems INSIDE the engine.

So that would be... 1. DCS Israel Server 2. Time? 3. Duration? 4. Full Realism 5. Mixed Mission ...to make sure we have at least the essential items.
-
Yes, most definitely. I was assuming the majority on here were of the full realism sort but it would be good to know and is worth making the distinction. Also this is specifically for WW2 combat themed servers, which is exclusively the P-51D (with Axis AI of course) at this point but hopefully we can recruit some period correct adversaries to join the servers as well in the near future. :D Then, I think, this will start picking up some good traffic. Let's establish a stardard "5-line" server posting from this point forward. 1. Server Name (And IP Address if Available) 2. Scheduled Start Time (GMT) & Date (Wednesday 19 JUNE) 3. Estimated Duration (Hours) 4. Full Realism Settings (If otherwise, must be stated on this line) 5. Mission Type (A2G-Co, A2G-Vs, A2A-Co, A2A-Vs, Training, Mixed or All Mission types) You can then follow up with a description or pertinent info about your server.
-
So naturally you will be presenting an eloquent discourse praising the accomplishments & spreading the good word about our beloved DCS to the multitudes. :D

Feel free to use the MP Server Bulletin thread we created. We are trying to make it a resource for finding and advertising servers that are up and flying the P-51. LINK TO THREAD

how to use the radio in the stang
Merlin-27 replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
That would be pretty cool to use the Civilian option in the ME to change between a modern P-51 with a GPS and more advanced radio and a lean mean WW2 fighter. She's a timeless bird and although I prefer the vintage configuration, using a four frequency radio in a modern environment is a bit silly. Can we have 150 octane for the WW2 variant? :)
