Agreed.. and the radial is a better engine to play with wrt to flying dynamics..
-
This is where IL2 was more successful in appealing to all calibre players. A lot more options to play with. You can have the hardcore settings, but you're only going to play with yourself, if you don't make allowances for all players preferences. hint hint... :)

No problem.. I thought that it might have been in the post WW2 theatre around Israel, but AFAIC the fledgling Israel Air Force were using Spits, and I think there were some BF109s floating around in the area. But I think this was a few years later anyway.

No need to jump up and down.. These are just documented examples available that state that gun convergences were adjusted to pilot preference - the reason why some of us are asking for this option in DCS. :)

I have a problem that I cannot edit my previous posts... but anyway.. here's an interesting interview.. http://www.cebudanderson.com/interviewparmer.htm

I cannot see my attached pics - Are they there ?

Curious about the date Sept 19, 1945 Where was this ?

If this means anything... I saw a locked server named 'FW190Test' a few nights back, so maybe it's in the pipe.

DR.. saw you on the Israel server last night. what I've discovered in my short time on DCS. - The online track record automatically, and are stored in the C:\Users\'username'\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks\Multiplayer folder. - The recorded track are compressed and contain, besides the track(s), other control files - If you wish to change track settings (such as padlock, nearest aircraft.. etc) The file to extract is the Options[\b], edit the settings in here, then save it back into the compressed track file. - When running the online track, on start up, it PAUSES on the map and sits there -You'll think it has crashed or stopped working. You have to 'un-Pause' it [Game - Pause key] and accelerate time to get it to your a/c - From here you can watch the track. Most games have their unique formats and are incompatible with other games. DCS track (with compression) are relatively small compared to other games.

Huge fps drop from ground crashes black smoke

Sounds like a graphics issue... In the image below, try playing around with the highlighted settings. -
OK.. no need to panic - all sorted :)

One does understand that at 300m the dispersion is much greater, and aiming accuracy and the effects thereof are 'less' guaranteed. At 150-200m convergence, you have a killer punch wrt convergence and even when firing at 300m you have a wider dispersion and hit probability, which I guarantee, gives you better psychological effect on the target pilot, and this is what you want more than anything else.
-
You said explicitly why there should be an adjustable convergence in this sim.
-
This is turning into the same story that happened then. The so called 'boffins', who were/are still clueless about combat conditions, dictating to the pilots what they should be doing. You're following the same route using the technical references as 'bible', when there is countless documentation of combat experience to the contrary. Follow the combat experience doctrine (IL2 did this) and make the game a success.

I end up with a map.. and cannot get the track running... then DCS crashes ? any ideas Same story for V122/3

how to get the most out of the stang?
Der_Fred replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Assign any buttons (i use keyboard buttons).. Press and hold the key down - you'll hear 'motor' noises behind you as the flaps open/close -
Never mind RL UAV's, there's one in DCS. It even lands itself.. although not that good but with a bit more programming it'll do better I jumped out for fun... and waited for the explosion.. which didn't come.

What I've done is do a level test flight and set the MP (not above 50) at certain settings and play with the prop and radiator, keep note of speeds and temps. In a DF I just open my radiators, because as you go over the top.. your engine goes into the red, and a couple top turns and the engine it phutt. - you need speed to keep it cool. During AI practice, some say you must fly with combat flaps (one notch), but what I found is that flying with no flaps forces the AI to keep speed up as you're up there with it, and as it likes going over the top a lot and using the same FM, he starts to slow down. - Just stick on his tail for 5 minutes.. then pop him off. This copycat maneuver teaches you to fly like the 'invincible' AI who seems to get the max out of the plane. -
Well, I hope the developers give the user options to select from a few ranges. This would go some way to satisfying more peoples preferences that suit their flying styles.
-
Har Har.. you're kidding me... I've used this method for many years and it's an unmitigated success.. maybe you should try it It's no good rambling on about how many a/c in the sky and who's doing who... What one needs is a single hard hitting burst that effectively disables (or downs) an aircraft. Having a long range convergence is not efficient enough.. and you will still have the other a/c beefing your tail.
-
One only shoots at close to convergence... closer convergence is more effective, and even more so if the dispersion pattern is smaller.
-
150-200m is better for hitting power. There are some historical notes somewhere of pilots getting the ground crew to make adjustments, to their preference, as they found the official range settings were just not effective for combat. The drawings are good and the smaller dispersion pattern at 150-200m will be more destructive, as this is the whole idea - to get as many bullets into a smaller area. :)

I never claimed to be a IL2 fanboy.. this was your claim. I questioned DCS P51 low speed FM, and suggest that looking at IL2's low speed model might help. I mentioned that IL2 nor DCS would not expose their models.. so there's nothing provable beyond this... DCS might take note wrt to prop a/c... that remains to be seen. But poor old jcomm managed to land his a/c on a short taxi strip
