Don't understand how you interpret "rebuilding" or "reimplementation" as not "starting from scratch". When I "reimplement" something, I remove the previous version and literally start it over from scratch. It means the old version wasn't cutting it and needed to be removed and restarted. Now optimizing something is a different story. :) Also - not flaming, just don't get why people have their panties in a bunch over very early WIP images.

Exactly. ------- New images of the Nevada map. This past week we started rebuilding the Nevada map with the new map tools, but it is still early and very rough... a lot of tuning and tweaking to still be done. Thankfully, we are nearing the end of this long journey and it is on track to be released later this year (seriously). I'm sure many of you have lots of questions about the map and the technology behind it, but I'm afraid I have no answers for you at this time. I have no direct contact with the map team and no access to the map build. However, as the map nears release, I'm sure I will have more information to pass along. ------- So calm yourselves lumpy space princesses. They've been working on the latest iteration of Nevada for a week using the new map tools. Obviously this is like pre-pre-pre-pre-pre alpha.

Guys - These are the first pictures of the new Nevada map. They've started it from scratch several times from what I have pieced together, and the same thing goes for EDGE. If the first few pictures of the new map/new engine look similar to what we've currently got, then I for one am excited to see the improvements that we have coming our way. Software's initial stages often don't look anywhere near as good as they will once the final product comes out. They may even be using placeholder textures for things. To be perfectly honest, if EDGE renders something that looks exactly like what we've got now but can do it at 120fps instead of the 40-50 I get now, I'll be more than happy with it. That being said, I doubt these teaser photos are anywhere near the final quality of the Nevada map.

I keep waiting until we can simulate this. ;)

If he's hand cutting, my PDFs will probably work better than the .dxf files as they've already been sized for 4x8 plywood sheets. I've got mine all marked up and ready to cut, it's been super hot and humid here in Georgia so I haven't made much headway on actually cutting the plywood into pieces. I went with CDX, cuz it's cheaper, but do wish I had spent the extra money on birch. Maybe after I've cut out what I've got (and make sure my carpentry skills aren't shit) I'll use those pieces as forms and re-trace over new wood. The CDX will work fine once painted, it just certainly doesn't look as professional or "finished". ;)

I can take pictures of the plywood I've got, all marked up. The 6mm is about 3/5 of a sheet and the 18mm was about a quarter sheet. Here in the states we get 4'x8' plywood, and they sell 2'x4' pieces as well which is what I used for the 18mm (3/4").

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-uWMXy4Nnc Here's an example of what they're talking about. I have no clue about IRL A-10C's but it would be neat to have this added as a "weapon camera view" (similar to F6) in the future!

I agree with this statement. The graphics may not look like Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4 but the sheer scope of how much you can see at one time is awesome. And the amount of detail! There's a TON of little things that you don't notice when flying in an A-10C or FC3 plane but that pop out at you when cruising low and slow in a Ka-50 or UH-1H. I'm not saying the graphics are amazing, but they are definitely sufficient. Once we get around to getting an overhaul it will be welcome but, dudes, what we've got is pretty solid. I'm also very much looking forward to the AFM for the FC3 planes even though I'll eventually replace the F-15 and Su-27 with the DCS-fidelity versions once they are released. Don't mind paying the premium for full-fidelity versions of the modules as FC3 was cheap for the amount of content delivered (especially now with the AFM etc upgrades for free) and the DCS versions are still likely quite a ways out. I am also hoping for a 3D cockpit for the Su-25T at some point as I love flying that plane but feel almost as if I'm stepping into a different game when I do. 6-DOF with a 2D cockpit is less than ideal! The thing I am MOST excited for is DCS: F/A-18C. The first flight sim I ever played was GraphSim's F/A-18 on a powermac back in the day and followed it up with F/A-18: Korea. It is my favorite plane IRL and I got happy in my pants once Eagle Dynamics announced it was their next DCS-level module. Absolutely can not wait for this (though I know I've probably got a long while to go)! I would be happy with the hornet being completely land-based or even carrier based with the basic ship models we've currently got but I hope ED plans on overhauling carrier ops, giving us new high quality ship models, catapult effects, trap cable effects (even something as simple as the cable 'sticking' to the arrestor hook), LSO with "ball" ... man my imagination runs wild with how awesome it could be. Though honestly as long as the plane itself is modeled properly I'll be satisfied with the product. The dreaming is just like 'ultimate happy' scenario. =) I am so incredibly excited for the future of DCS: World... I mean right now it's freaking incredible as is and it looks like things are only going to get exponentially better. As for the long wait time ... I'll deal with it. That's what the mission editor is for, after all. So basically ... I'm excited. :megalol:

WHOOPS I thought this was the update discussion thread! fail
-
Don't know if everyone noticed this in the update thread but: Update - 22 June 2013 We have completed our internal discussion of the availability of the "upgraded" Flaming Cliffs aircraft and we have decided to make them available for free to Flaming Cliffs 3 customers. We believe that this will add a very high level of new content to the FC3, it will avoid duplicate aircraft types, and we hope it will broaden the appeal of FC3 to an even larger audience. Did I mention that FC3 is currently on sale?

The June 21st DCS News Update Discussion Thread
Psyrixx replied to SkateZilla's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I agree with this. I can land it just fine, I've only had the gear collapse on me once during an admittedly hard landing. :pilotfly: -
From the mission briefing: * F-15C (Dodge) / Su-27 (Klondike) * * Su-33 (October) / MiG-29 (Talon) * It is highly likely the insurgents will scramble several enemy fighters to engage our rescue aircraft. Your mission is to maintain air superiority north of the Georgian border and engage any enemy fighters that threaten our extraction mission. Be careful not to stray south into Georgia… enemy patrols in Georgian airspace are currently very heavy. Long story short, the guys south of the border will not attack you unless you stray into their airspace. You will get a pair of Mig23s for each F-15 that spawns that will head north into friendly airspace. You're only supposed to attack the fighters that come north of the border. The groups of MiG23s further south are supposed to be there for eye candy and/or to be a large challenge should F-15 pilots get bored with the basic CAP mission and want to engage. So basically, stay north of the mountains and you'll never have to worry about the enemy CAP way down south.

Here's a gallery that I'll keep updated with my cockpit build progress. http://imgur.com/a/ON36P (Updated 5/30/2013) I've got all of the 3/4" pieces cut out, now I'm trying to figure out a cost effective way to get the 1/2" and 1/4" materials to my house as neither my wife nor I have cars that are large enough to transport full 8'x4' sheets of plywood. Might just spend the $35 and have it delivered by the local lumber yard.

Dude your pit is amazing, done without power tools! I believe I'm using the higher stick hub as I grabbed the latest available CNC plans from geneb (in which I'm sure I remember him mentioning it including the updated stick hub). I'm going to be integrating a 16" monitor for the MFCDs, and probably not displaying any gauges at this time. My primary reason for building a pit is to have a dedicated seat for DCS with the joystick, throttle and rudder pedals in appropriate positions that can easily be moved out of the way of my regular desk when not in use: I have no problem using TrackIR to glance at my gauges etc. So two MFCDs, proper mount positions for HOTAS and pedals, a seat that doesn't swivel from side to side and the ability to slide it out of the way when not gaming. I might get an itch and upgrade it at some point to include gauges, but at the moment I'm not too interested. :)

The document size of the 3/4" stencil is 20 inches by 48 inches so if you go with a 24 inch by 48 inch sheet of plywood you'll be good (660mm x 1220mm x 18mm). So total materials: (3) 96 inch x 48 inch sheets of 1/2 inch thick plywood (3 - 2440mm x 1220mm x 12mm Plywood) (1) 96 inch x 48 inch sheet of 1/4 inch thick plywood (1 - 2440mm x 1220mm x 6mm Plywood) (1) 24 inch x 48 inch sheet of 3/4 inch thick plywood (1 - 660mm x 1220mm x 18mm Plywood) (1) 20 inch long x 1 inch radius steel pipe (510mm x 25mm metal pipe for backrest support) (1) 22 inch long x 1 inch radius steel pipe (550mm x 25mm metal pipe for seat support) Jedi also included a few CAD drawings that show which pieces go with what section of the cockpit, I've turned that into a non-to-scale PDF that you can just look at to get an idea of how this bad boy goes together. I haven't actually built it yet (just found this thread and did all of this conversion last night so I'll be taking a shot at building it soon) so for now you'll just have to kind of guess at what goes where once you've cut your materials from the plywood sheets. Approximate Cost for Materials Did a quick search on Lowes.com this morning for basic materials for this build. Prices subject to change and may not be representative of your local stores. $15 USD / sheet for 1/2 inch plywood $13 USD / sheet for 1/4 inch plywood $15 USD / sheet for 3/4 inch plywood at 24 inch x 48 inch sheet $4 USD / 1 inch x 48 inch wooden dowel, you could cut this down to size and I'll bet it would hold most people's weight Approximate base cost of materials for this pit: $80. Then hopefully you have plenty of time! Whartog Home Cockpit by Jedi with dimensions.pdf

GeneB I'm looking to take on this project here over the Memorial Day weekend, actually. I'm going to try and use your plans layout using the measurements in Jedi's (screw finding a place to CNC... more fun to break out my jigsaw!) Will update you with progress. Edit Turns out Adobe Illustrator can open dxf files and scale them at 1:1. I've saved the files as PDFs which you can print out in "poster form" at 1:1 as well, simply overlay onto your 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" plywood (6mm, 12mm and 18mm respectively) to trace, then proceed with your cuts. :) PDFs are attached in a .zip file in this post. Dynamic Extraction Team Spawning (My Script Linked)
Psyrixx replied to Psyrixx's topic in Mission Editor
Glad it is useful to people! I wrote it specifically for my first mission, Asset Extraction, but I tried to keep the code as modular as possible so that people could adapt it to whatever scenario they desired. =) -
20. May 2013 appreciation thread
Psyrixx replied to Megagoth1702's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Seconded. Love this game! Keep up the incredible work. -
I went searching all through Teh Googles™ as well as on this forum and couldn't find a fix for what I was calling a "HUD size problem" because my 6DOF worked fine, the HUD was just too big for the frame. Anyways, good to know and I'll make sure 1.2 doesn't have this issue (but it shouldn't since I'm running 1.2.4). So far so good. Thanks again for the feedback!
-
Excellent, I assume that means my solution fixed your broken 6DOF issue? I didn't think that was something I could control and since the mission editor created the Config and Scripts folders when I originally made the mission I figured those were just supposed to be there. I hadn't changed anything in either of those .miz folders.
-
I'm pretty sure this is a DCS: World issue that may be patched in a future version. 6DOF isn't something I control in the mission. I'm also having trouble (across all missions, not just my own) with the FC3 HUDs not being sized properly. Can't quite figure that one out either. My 6DOF works fine, though. UPDATE The mission editor had created a Config directory within the .miz file that was messing with the HUDs in the Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft. I've deleted that directory from within the .miz, it fixed my HUD problems and I will make sure it doesn't make its way into v1.2. I'm not sure if that might have had anything to do with the 6DOF not working but if you wanted to test it, just open your .miz with winrar or 7zip, delete the Config and Scripts directories that for some reason were included in the mission, save the .miz and try playing again to see if it fixes your issues. I didn't have any problems except in the FC3 aircraft.

Deploy troops anywhere with the Huey, possible?
Psyrixx replied to Robert1983NL's topic in Mission Editor
Awesome! Looks great. :) -
I have just released v1.1 which includes the ability to fly the extraction mission with the UH-1H Huey. For v1.2 I will add an additional flight of 4xA-10C departing from Mozdok to the North (where the fighters start) with additional targets to engage. :) Thanks for the feedback! Edit: Actually, I noticed during a play through of v1.1 earlier today that several of the changes I had made between v1.0 and v1.1 did not actually save properly into the mission file so I went ahead and worked on v1.2 this afternoon. New audio files (hopefully easier to understand), several bug fixes to the dynamic extraction group spawned from the rescue helicopters as well as adding a second flight of A-10Cs with their own targets to manage. I'll be testing and tweaking over the weekend to make sure it's working just the way it should and then I'll likely release v1.2 on Monday. I'd skip v1.1, I think it might be a bit too "Windows Me", if you get my drift.

Also, if you wouldn't mind, what aircraft were you all flying? I'd love to get an idea in my head of how the mission went.
