I don't have a problem with England, we got more than I expected. I just would have expected more complete content in Normandy even in early access. I am not shelving it, I am working with it preparing a campaign to see how Normandy copes with it. A friend tried to create a simple mission and was so disappointed with the lack of Normandy roads and inability to place and route vehicles and a complete lack of WWII AAA, roads that go nowhere and roads that are only loops that he has shelved it, as have a couple of others. Call it feedback if you like. EDIT: I wish WAGS email with this link had actually arrived last night before I wrote all of this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188118

Well, to be brutally honest, it can't come soon enough. I know it is 'early release' and there was a release date commitment but I would have expected it to be substantially complete and more in the way of needing community testing. There are significant shortfalls. No AAA, roads that go nowhere, missing roads (Normandy not England) and we've only just scratched the surface. However I'm generally pleased with what we do have excepting the overly bright washed out graphics/lighting (what happened there?) and overly contrasted hedgerows seen from the air, so all together it seems there's still much work to do. I'm afraid a few of my squad-mates have shelved it for now, disappointed on those shortfalls and making worried comparisons to 'the release of CoD' (not warranted in my own opinion). Don't misunderstand me, I'm very glad we have it and it is generally very good but we've waited a long time and I hope ED can fill in the gaps very soon.

I say, patience chaps! About 5 hours to go yet.

Thank you for that info. I do find it misleading to say on every module Buy page the same old "30Gb" minimum system requirement which does not relate to the module being sold. Can ED please add the module disc space required in the description for each module on the Buy page and in the Terrains/Modules pages description so that we don't have to trawl the forums for the info? Some customers may not even be forum members. Thanks.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
klem replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
I don't know of any way. I can only say that with 3 x 27" screens about 70cm from my eyes I get a quite good wrap around effect and I don't really notice the '90 degree' effect, it all seems pretty normal to me especially with TrackIR. -
Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
klem replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
I'm running four 1920x1080 as three surround and one below for instruments on a GTX980 (see sig). Like you I prefer 3 screens to the stretchy 1 screen. My settings are attached. I get around 20 fps on ground and 30-60 in the air. Yes the ground and large towns are a pain down low but try them and see how you get on. I'm running about 8 megapixels, you're running about 6. I have found Water, Shadows, Clutter/Grass and Trees to be big hitters. -
Instructions MBot, having a poor memory I have to write stuff down. I've collected various comments of yours and added them into an Overview file (attached) plus my own findings. I'm still building my draft WWII Campaign with some targets still to define and the camp_triggers still to do but I wonder if you could read through the attached and let me know if I have misunderstood anything. I expect I'll be adding some more info when I do the trigger lua. Overview.txt

MBot, If I understand correctly, the targetlist_init.lua sets out both targets and stations or tasks for Capping, Intercept etc. In targetlist_init.lua some Intercept tasks name a base and a radius (presumably an Intercept "zone") but other tasks have co-ordinates, a text description but no radius. Is there a default radius for these tasks or am I mis-understanding the purpose of radius?

There are a large number of factors that come into play in RL, mostly angle and environment/lighting. We shouldn't expect one visibilty result from dots and models. I live 2nm from the local small airport (cessnas, robins, small twins etc ). Even from the ground (no terrain issues) what I see varies from day to day. Sun angle/direction has a huge effect, either a fast fading silver grey a/c lost within 1nm or perhaps clearly trackable 2nm++ by down-sun fuselage shadow. Yesterday I watched a Cessna 172 tail on heading directly away from me under the evening overcast, a grey blurring outline but still easily visible 2nm+ away. There are several RL Pilots' sources out there that talk about eyeball contact at 5-7nm range. I'd be happy with that. If I can't see them they can't see me, radar apart. Instead of asking for unrealistic spotting perhaps we should make more use of radar GCI where there is no cockpit radar as in Korean/WWII scenarios even if it means using 'modern' ground systems or even a bogus E3A..

A little worrying if not a show stopper. Here's how I've built a couple of 109s for WWII. is there a clue here?
-
Thanks MBot. Another question :helpsmilie: I'm drafting my WWII mission in Caucuses so that my friends can help me test the general build when I've finished it. Looking for a way to get the airfields. EDIT: Solution Found, see spoiler. EDIT2: Better solution found, You just need to add : db_airbases = { at the beginning and } at the end Get airdromes The airfield numbers and frequencies default to 999. Get the airfield numbers from next spoiler Edit the airdrome frequencies to suit your purposes (see in ME) airdromeIDs

I'm working up a draft WWII mission and have a noob question. Range is given in the encyclopedia and ties up with other sources, e.g. FW190D-9 Range = 835km. Your db_loadouts.lua describes range as 'radius'. Does that mean we halve the encyclopedia Range or is the term Range used in the encyclopedia also the range Radius?

swiss_lipo, where did you get the DCE from? It seems to have disappeared from this thread.

I've read the entire thread. Brilliant initiative but I can't find the latest version. There is one at https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2986777&postcount=212 But you have said in posts after that you have made changes. Where can I get the latest version?

Thanks for the explanation Nero.ger

Why doesn't this work as a Do Script File or even DoScript: name = "C:\\DCS\\Test.txt" if file_exists(name) then blah blah ...... ...... function file_exists(name) f = io.open(name,"r") if f then return false else io.close(f) return true end end I get error message at f = io.open(name, "r") as "attempt to index 'io' (a nil value) It works in LuaEdit 2010

You don't have to make historical missions - we all know the outcome of that although we might want to 're-enact' it. You could build missions that do not follow Hitler's military touch and perhaps there were more aircraft available to the LW than historical. Perhaps 'you', Herr Goering, can send bombers to England and affect Allied a/c operations. Perhaps in your scenario 'Big Week' wasn't as successful as it really was. Perhaps you will create a 'Big Week' that has more LW defense than historical and a lesser impact on LW aircraft production. It's up to you.

Vlerkies, is that the map from the Alpha release? The last shot I saw only went East as far as your WV, WA, WB. Likewise, is that the whole map or is there more? (We're drafting some missions before release.)
-
I like the smart scaling. The overlayed dot/colour change was a bit 'fake' (sorry Donald  )
-
But I'm sure a 1080 screenshot of the map would be really nice. We'd like to start planning missions :)

Well, wearing VDU-range glasses should bring us to the same level as anyone else as the dots are there physically on our monitors about 70cm away. The problem continues to be both dot and model rendering until the models are well within visual range and 'inside' that phantom range where the models first render but are invisible. Good news is SiThSpAwN's reply to Philstyle above - "IN PROGRESS". But yes, the monitor itself can be a problem. I have three AOC e2752vq monitors, much-lauded on release, which are very poor at showing individual pixels. I just hope the "IN PROGRESS" work helps that.
-
Thanks. That makes the wait easier to bear as I don't have the drive space for a third installation.
-
Has this been released as an entirely separate installation or loaded into v2.0 Alpha?

Is this the Burning Skies mod (LShft + F10)?
