Dots? What dots? I can't even see one beside the caret, zoomed or not :( Played with my monitor values, still no dots :(

I watched for this in start up video. He uses the mouse for all operations except the starter and booster coils buttons. At the critical moment he just say's to press both and move the idle cutoff lever. Well, I see him use the mouse to move the idle cutoff but not to operate the starter buttons, nor do I see them animated. I'm guessing it will be one key especially as keys are generally short in DCS.

I generally agree. I fiddled with the imposters.lua and imposter.fx (on the back of Why485's work) trying to get the Model to blend into a decent Imposter but there was always a point at which the model disappeared before the Imposter appeared although I managed to get a reasonable distant imposter size. Still ED are apparently looking at this again.

At 2nm an F-15C should not be a dot. It's hard to be absolutely accurate but I have a triple screen setup with zoom set to represent the size of the cockpit - I feel as if I am in the correctly sized F-15C cockpit of about 37.5" wide as measured across my screens. In other words the world is about the 'correct size'. In snapviews.lua at F-15C option [13] 'default view' is it viewangle = 69.5. To my right is an F-15C at 2nm. At my screen viewing distance of 70cm it should be 0.7 * 6.18 = 4.326mm. It actually measures about 3.5mm on screen or about 80% of what it should be. Or put another way, my 27" 1920 x 1080 monitors are about 80dpi (23.5") or 3.2dpmm (600mm wide). At 2nm it should be 4.326*3.2= 13.8 dots/pixels. It is 10 pixels or 70% of what it should be. Either way it's too small.

It's not the planes, it's not the GPU, it's graphics actualies versus the RL MkI eyeball of which much has been posted. Even a 1080 can't conjour up what isn't there. Ever hopeful that ED can up with a balanced solution.

I only know from IL-2 1946 but in there the Raiden was something like a 109 and I think flew with a rip-off DB engine. My favourite back then was the Ki-84 Frank. It will be really interesting if in the future ED/partners go down those roads.

Universal Model Visibility Setting Mod

It would be nice if they were part of the map or better still a map choice in ME. Hopefully they would be designed so as to have minimum impact on performance.

DCS Update files do not go to your downloads folder. They go to the downloads folder under the main game folder. So, unless you remove a load of other stuff (including perhaps from your regular downloads folder) you will not succeed. I had the same problem and had to move another flight sim to an old HDD that I use for documents. I have asked for a disk choice to be available in the update dialogue box (moved to Wishlist) so that anyone with another drive having spare space can nominate that drive for the download files. Needless to say the technocrats are telling me to upgrade my SSD size (and all that entails) or make special windows setups to redirect the download files to another disk. A disk selection is much simpler and requires virtually no coding.

Even with toe brakes I rarely push more than 50-60% and then only gradually. I don't like the smell of burning rubber! :) With a key/button all you can do is tap tap tap....

And we should complicate our lives or spend even more money on hardware just to get an update? Did you ever work in customer services? ED might think: "You know what, we can capture a disk choice from a dialogue box in a microsecond. With such huge updates some guys might be struggling. Do we really need to have them go out and buy even larger SSD drives and leave Gigabytes unused just waiting for an update when we could help them use an alternate drive for the download with so little trouble?" It is common practice to offer a disk location for programs so why not the update files?
-
I understand all of this and you understand the simple problem that large installations and large update downloads can present a problem for some current drives, particularly modest sized SSDs. I doubt that it would take much coding to look to a nominated drive instead of an assumed one. I will not be able to do the next major update without moving files again and I doubt if I am the only one. Customers should not need to be PC gurus to make an update ("Link Shell Extension") or re-organise files to make temporary space for an update when other space is available.

Perhaps it is but it still fits the thread title. Question is, is it correct? Belsimtek?? -
@Wader8, thanks for taking the time to explain but seriously I don't want to set up a special process just for the updates. Also, there will be many people out there that simply will not understand the process. @AtaliaA1, that's good to hear but again I don't have the disk space. A simple option to choose a disk would be best. I'd like to hear from ED.

My SSD is getting hammered by he DCS updates, especially the latest one, made worse by having both v1.5 and v2 on the same SSD. Update torrents are taking up huge amounts of space and I even had to move some other large files to a HDD while I did the update. In addition it is supposedly bad practice to repeatedly write/erase/re-write/re-erase to a SSD. I have spare space on other disks such as HDDs. Please can we have a choice of disk (selected in the Update dialogue window) for the torrent file locations?

I don't get red shield with KneeboardBuilder nor the fact that I've slimmed down the main game folder kneeboard. On timeout think about your ping levels as lsisted in the server list. If you in the several hundreds you are asking a lot. Can you run your own server - 'New Server' in MP. Can anyone else see it?

Oops, "Invalid Post specified." Jumped the gun? ;) Sorry, duplicated....

This has been one of the themes in this and many other threads. You can 'cheat' like that if you want. Hopefully ED can find a solution.

I don't see that in any of the 1.5 change logs, just the introduction of the settings in the original 1.5 update.

Forgive me for not re-reading all of this thread so the answer may be buried in here somewhere but as there has been an update here's my current understanding of it. Please put me right if I misunderstand:- 1. Terminology. The 'Model' is not an 'icon'/'imposter', it is the set of the usual LODs 2. 'Icons'/'imposters' are the 'dots' that change size according to the (badly named?) 'Model enlargement' setting even if they are tiny crude a/c shapes but by that stage they are just a handful of pixels. 3. We can argue all day about distant visibility when the dot size argument kicks in but there are professionsl estimates on this, typically 6 to 10 nm. 4. My main concern is the WVR modelling where even a Red Arrow Hawk loses definition and color at ridiculously short distances. I think that is what needs addressing, not necessarily size.

In OPTIONS/Controls/F-5E the Action titles for the throttle quadrant flap slider (Auto, Fixed, Up) seems to be reversed. I set buttons for 'Flap Switch - step fwd' and 'Flap Switch - step aft' and I get the reverse actions on the actual throttle quadrant. It just looks like typos in the controls settings.
