Introducing Skullz Genuine Huey Sounds by Skullz of the 1st Cav Div (Virtual) Background I am an avid UH1 Huey fan. My love for this helicopter started when I was a kid growing up around Fayetteville, NC and living in an area where they constantly flew over my house on their way to and from Ft Bragg and Simmons Army Airfield. Also, watching all the Vietnam movies that were out at the time devopled that passion even more. I wanted to be a Huey pilot when I grew up but my eyesight prevented me from even attempting to get into Army aviation. So, when the Belsimtek Huey was announced I was like a kid at Christmas anticipating its release. That day finally came and a childhood dream finally realized—at least ‘virtually’. Early Stage Once the newness wore off the Belsimtek Huey, I began to notice the startup didn’t sound realistic to me. I watched a few YouTube videos of Hueys starting up and quickly realized how off the startup in the sim was. So, I decided I wanted to make a realistic startup sound mod. I tinkered with the startup sound for months. I spent hours upon hours watching videos and getting feedback from actual Huey pilots. The Project Begins During the development of the start up sound mod, I watched more videos; the more I watched the more I realized how unrealistic the whole sound in the sim was. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to bash Belsimtek, after all they had to create the entire aircraft and they did an outstanding job, but the sound is too arcade-like for my taste. So, the project morphed into something more than a mere startup sound mod. Since those early days I have been working on capturing all the sounds of the Huey and making it into a complete sound mod. This project has taken the better part of 2 years, working on it in my spare time, testing, re-testing, tweaking and pestering other members of 1st Cav Div to test it. As a perfectionist I have been relentlessly chasing the perfect blend of sounds to create a depth of detail that hasn’t been created by any other sound modder to date. I can’t list everything in the aircraft that makes a sound—I probably couldn’t tell you what particular part makes what particular sound, aside from the basics like rotors, engine, etc. I can only say that the sound is there—you’ll just have to hear it for yourself. That being said, here is a short list of what's represented in the mod: Main rotor blades have that distinctive and famous thump at a distance. As the helicopter approaches the thump gets louder and disappears as the aircraft flies by, just like the real Huey. Authentic transmission whine and engine sounds Authentic ‘blade slap’ sound Startup is realistic and sounds like the real aircraft Shutdown is realistic and sounds like the real aircraft All weapons have been replaced with real sounds Comparing the real Huey to my sound mod: Flyby using my mod: Flyby of a real Huey: Startup and Idle using my sound mod: Startup of a real huey: The ultimate goal of this project is to create the most realistic sound possible within the constraints of DCS World and Belsimtek’s Huey module, I could do a lot more with it if there were more options available for sound in the sim. I welcome all feedback from current or former UH1 pilots or crewmembers. Having said that, I will forewarn you. This mod is meant to be realistic, it's loud in the cockpit and outside the cockpit. Some members of the 1st Cav Div told me that the sound in the cockpit was so loud it was overwhelming till they got used to it. You may want to adjust your speaker volume before using it the first time. I’d like to thank the all the members of the 1st Cav Div (Virtual) for helping me test the mod and giving feedback throughout its 2 year development, but there are a few who had invaluable feedback due to real word experience: Flyer, a former U.S. Army UH1 pilot/instructor pilot Shek, a current Bell 205/UH1 pilot Samri, a former Australian Army UH1 pilot/instructor pilot GunfighterSix, a current UH60 Blackhawk pilot ***This mod no longer requires JSGM, just drop the sound folder into your DCS World Saved Games folder.*** Change Log: 3.1 08/10/2020 * Added support for DSC World 2.5.6, to install just drop sounds folder into DCS Saved Games folder. * Tweaked sound to eliminate a slight sound anamoly 2.5 04/26/2016 * Startup sound edited * New tail rotor sound and tail rotor volume increased * New cockpit sound * Added a dynamic tail rotor sound that is only heard when flying above 50-60 knots--you'll just have to test it out. 2.4 04/10/2016 * Removed high frequency noise in startup sound 2.3 03/17/2016 * Added vibration sound to the cockpit noise for more detailed sound, apparently Hueys are rattle traps 2.2 03/11/16 * Adjusted startup sound and adjusted the outer radius to 800 meters * Fixed miniguns; inside sound was actually the outside sound and no outside sound at all. * Decreased volume of in cockpit sounds * Added a faint in-cockpit vibration sound to in-cockpit noises * More tweaks to startup sound 03/11/16 * Adjusted startup sound and adjusted the outer radius to 800 meters * Fixed miniguns; inside sound was actually the outside sound and no outside sound at all. * Decreased volume of in cockpit sounds * Added a faint vibration sound to in cockpit noises 02/18/2016 * Increased the in-cockpit rockets sound volume * Decreased the in-cockpit M60 sound volume * Decreased the outside miniguns sound volume 02/04/2016 * Increased volume of distant thump * Removed a bug in distant thump that caused a snapping sound to be heard * Reduced volume of distant thump after aircraft passes by and flies away. * Changed Startup Sound **NEW LINK ADDED 08-10-2020** Download here: https://mega.nz/file/0JBwnaTY#fXK6uS7TIRAnfFPIjk7_FV5R7PN1b-eSWti4NtHuR4o

Position Lights Dim/Bright switch backwards
sSkullZnBoneZz replied to sSkullZnBoneZz's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good news, finally got DCS World 2.0 downloaded and the bug has been fixed. -
I think this was a bug that got corrected a while ago but it has shown up again. The Dim/Bright switch for position lights is backwards. Dim side makes lights brighter bright side makes them dimmer.

Hi guys, I have been trying to figure out how to mod the Huey blade slap sound. From my research I have found out this occurs in forward flight at or above 110 kts and when flying over 80 kts while turning or descending. I have made some nice sounding wav files for this effect but I was hoping I could find some way to mod it so it only plays the wav under the above conditions. Any ideas?
-
I was also able to create a multi-player mission and set an F86 to client and it worked fine. Thanks to Bignewy for the help...
-
I can't get mine to work if set to client either. I have activated it and it works fine in single player. I also tried to join a mulitplayer server and it crashed as soon as it started to load in cockpit...

Hey guys. I'm using FacetrackNoIR and something similar is happening to me. But in game mine suddenly jerks to the left or right for a few seconds and jerks back. I caught it doing that once and alt tabbed to FTnoIR program and saw the camera view shrunk and then expanded again for no apparent reason. I have deleted VJoy settings, deleted DCS Folder in Saved Games, and reinstalled a fresh copy of DCS World as well as FTnoIR software; I thought it was my PS3 Eye so I even bought a new one. The new camera did the same thing. Any ideas?
-
My list of bugs so far: -FaceTrackNoIR still not working after moving the headtracker.dll file from Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/bin/headtracker/ to Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/bin -View constantly spins around without input in all views -External sound mods are not working even after copying sounds into sounds folder, very annoying given the time and effort people have put into refining the sound to the point that it finally sounded like a Huey. After the update, the Huey sounds like a Bumble Bee agian.

Thanks diveplane, I finally made it home and got a hold of the help file. -- PLAYMODE: trigger = false -- set to true if the sound should always play the whole sample (explosions, gunshots etc.) That's exactly what I needed it to do...
-
They did to me too until I watched a bunch of youtube videos of Hueys starting up. BTW, is there a way to make DCS play a .wav file once and not repeat it? I tried taking a wav file that included startup to idle sound; I copied it over the StartUp.wav but it repeats the wav over and over after startup and again at shut down.
-
Thanks for the replies guys! Hey diveplane, I love your Huey sounds mod; I am currently using it. I'm working on the startup sound for the Huey but I was wondering if you were working on one for startup?

I'm just starting with modding the sdef files, etc. I found this thread while searching for information on modding sounds in DCS World. After reading through the thread, someone mentioned an sdef help file; where can I find this?

We're looking for players in North America to join the newly formed 1stCavDiv--we are recruiting international members as well. We have 15 members now and 7 of us are in North America. I just need some guys who love the Huey to join up to help fill the North America group. Recently, fly49, a real life Huey pilot, joined our ranks and we will begin training with him in the near future. There are no requirements other than a mutual love for the Huey, and there is no minimum time to be online--you can come and go as you please. Currently we only fly the Huey; so if you are tired of joining servers to find it doesn't really support the mission style of the beloved Huey we are who you are looking for. If you are interested but have more questions please PM me; I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have... If nothing else just stop by and check out our website: http://1stcavdiv.conceptbb.com/

I watched it again and noticed you start to drop like a rock at about 10-20 knots. But at the same time you're rotating to the left. Try keeping the aircraft straight. I have attempted several hot LZ landings were I did that trying to slow down fast, land and avoid trees all at the same time but ended up crashing because I was rotating away from an obstacle as I descended. Try just a straight landing. I would go into free flight and try landing in line with the runway on the runway numbers. That's how I learned. Just hours of practicing landing on the numbers...

I agree, but I always keep VSI to less than -300 fpm. Also, avoid jerking the controls once you begin loosing ETL, and keep pulling the collective up very slowly and continuous, as you're slowing down, until you are at a hover; don't forget to compensate for the collective by pushing the left pedal slowly as you feel the aircraft begin to rotate to the right. By all means. don't just pull up hard on the collective at the last second that makes it worse...you could also join our group and get some hands on training by a real UH-1 pilot. Matter of fact we're doing some training tonight. Join here: http://1stcavdiv.conceptbb.com/
