Judging from the inclusion of the RWR and some of the features seen on the external model ('shark' nose and enlarged leading edge extensions) I think we're talking about a very late F-5E. I'm guessing we'll see something similar to the Swiss Air Force variant but minus the radar upgrade to the Emerson APG-69 probably. I doubt we'll get a radar with air to ground modes or look down capability, although I would love to see it happen!

Texture layering issue with missile exhaust/flare smoke
howie87 replied to howie87's topic in Object Bugs
Just bumping this as no response yet. Definitely a bug and looks worse in video than screenshots. -

I'd love to see functional air-to-air Tacan like in the A-10C. Not sure if the F-5E was capable of this though.

I don't understand all this talk of fairness. There's a whole bunch of aircraft I'd love to see in DCS and 'balance' doesn't come into it. I'd snap your arm off for a western multirole aircraft without any Russian equivalent being available. I'm sure most of the people who talk about 'balance' really just have a preference for a different aircraft and if everyone was suggesting their preferred airframe be modelled, you wouldn't hear them saying "Oh no... We can't have that wihout X, Y, or Z"

This really should have been a poll...

OK, the Thud and an F-4 then... Oh man that would be perfect. Throw in the SA-2 SAM and a Vietnam map and I would throw money at you until I was broke.
-
Ooops, I stand corrected! The damage model seems to be the issue here then.

The MiG-21 will get its rival in the form of the F-5E by Belsimtek. I'm about 95% sure we'll get a Viggen from Leatherneck from all the hints so far. As for the other aircraft, I have no idea. I'd love to see another fast jet but I'm expecting a warbird of some kind. Probably the Corsair or Hellcat. If it was up to me, I'd love to see an F-105. The Thud was a mighty beast of an aircraft.

You can use this chart to give you some idea. By my calculations, carrying 8x FAB 100 bombs at 500m AMSL 450L would give you closer to 10 minutes of flight time at the MiG's max endurance speed of 480km/h ;) In a clean jet you'd get around 14 minutes. 12 sounds about right as a ballpark figure. 480km/h indicated is the max endurance speed for the MiG-21 at all altitudes. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2154839&postcount=16

Hmm... I deployed it low level at about Mach 1.1 yesterday in full afterburner and didn't notice any reduction in top end speed. Try at Max speed and see if it slows you down?
-
Ok thanks.

The landing gear can be deployed at any speed in 1.5 without breaking or causing drag.

Dynamic multiplayer campaign in 4th gen fighters with better ATC and new maps please! I'm not asking for much really...

So excited for this one. Beautiful aircraft and perfect opponent to the MiG-21, not to mention a great addition to the NTTR for dissimilar aircraft training. Day one purchase from me. DCS is finally starting to move in a direction that I'm looking forward to.

Anyone else see this on the loadout view? (I don't have the 109 module installed at the moment) I also see the same image on the tail of the MiG-21 here http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2512943&postcount=37

When in F6 view on a missile or F2 view on a supersonic aircraft, the sound chops and glitches when the viewpoint is within the shock cone. The shock cone doesn't seem to narrow as object move faster in the way that it used to before 1.5 either.

Confirmed. It's the 'mute' light that's the issue. As previously said, it doesn't have an offset texture. Has been this way since the MiG was released.

Originally the DCS MiG was underpowered at altitude, probably due to issues with the atmospheric modelling in DCS (the A-10 has always underperformed in DCS and could never reach its service ceiling). In an earlier update the MiG's performance was increased to better match real world values. If the atmospheric model has been given an overhaul in 1.5 to boost high altitude performance for all aircraft, the MiG maybe a little overpowered now. For comparison, on September 4, 1959 a modified Su-9 (designated T-431 by the bureau) piloted by Vladimir Sergeievitch Ilyushin set a new world record for absolute height, at 28,852 m (94,658 ft). I imagine an unmodified MiG-21 would struggle to beat this.

The Mirage's RDI radar uses a higher pulse-repetition frequency for its dedicated interception role, increasing clear-air detection range of fighter sized targets to around 66 nmi (122 km) and 50 nmi (93 km) is possible in look-down mode. The MiG's RP-22 has a 30km search range and a 15km tracking range, look up only. That MiG's sure gonna have his work cut out.
-
The negative stability and fly-by-wire controls of the M2000 will give it a huge advantage. Not to mention the extra 5000 lbs of thrust, superior radar and improved cockpit ergonomics. The MiG-21 was never supposed to be an air superiority fighter. It was designed primarily to be an interceptor which if employed in large numbers, could in theory overwhelm an adversary. That's not to say the MiG can't beat the Mirage, but the driver would have to be skilled AND lucky.

A Viggen would be great but a Gripen would be spectacular :shifty:

DCS World Video News and Q&A for September 20th, 2015
howie87 replied to Wags's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
What's with the triangular shading on the small peak in the lower right at 5:33? Looks like the new terrain colours aren't quite blended properly yet...
