So does the Mode 1/2/3 count as modifiers as well as the pinkie?

I just found out that the Starforce F*** UP has also cost me an activation for Black Shark, even though it was already installed on my new PC and activated, I didn't re-install the operating system or anything drastic like that, I just tried to install FC1 as it's a long time all time favourite game of mine. This has made me angry, I do support ED, I have been a big fan since the days of Flanker 2. I have legally bought copies, 2 of Lockon, 2 of Flaming Cliffs, 2 of Black Shark and one of FC2 and I do intend to continue supporting ED as I think they are THE BEST at what they do. I thought that if you just re-install a copy of Black Shark, without altering any system components or operating system, you don't lose an activation, well Windows 7 & Starforce disagree with that so be warned. I have today had to install Black Shark twice on a brand new rig, I played BS for about 10 mins of the first install just whilst I was setting up my TrackIR and X52 Pro settings, so it was bad enough I had to redo most of all my installs all over again, but then to lose an activation as well is just a real P****R. On top of the Starforce saga, I then tried to install FC2, but guess what? It wouldn't let me because it couldn't find an installed version of FC1 (which I thought was not a pre-req), fortunately I solved that one by uninstalling FC1 and ALL Starforce drivers, but leaving LockOn installed. It also uninstalled my download copy of AVP, about 1.5Gb worth, which I am now having to download all over again!! Anyway, I'm getting back on track and I do look forward to the hundreds/thousands of hours I will be playing BS & FC2 and other DCS modules on my nice shiny new computer.

Well, managed to get passed all the Starforce stuff, but now it crashes on start up with a Runtime error message. I'm ready to give up on this. I think my process was: Install Lockon Start it into the GUI, and exit Install Flaming Cliffs Install patch to 1.12b reboot start FC from desktop icon, error message appeared Ran the Starforce driver update, which I had to do as Administrator did that successfully, went to start FC and got the runtime error before even getting into the splash screen. Guess I'm just going to have to settle for FC2, but I'm going to miss the Crimea!

I've just had the same experience, and then some!! Not only did it uninstall LockOn and Flaming Cliffs, it also uninstlalled Black Shark, all my Saitek software and drivers, and my TrackIR software, and my Steam software. Not impressed, as I've spent most of today setting it all up (just got my PC today) and downloading lots of stuff, now I'm back to square one. I'm going to try it this time with the Starforce driver work around mentioned by Distiler (thanks) but I must say I can see why people hate Starforce so much. This is fortunately my first encounter with any problems. Anyway, I'm installing FC1 first before all the other stuff this time. I'll report back if it goes okay.

Sorted, I just right clicked on the desktop and selected Refresh, and it has gone. Blond moment over :^)

So just got my new rig today (and FC2) which is Win 7 64bit Home Premium, and intalled BS. I then patched it to 1.01c, all has gone fine, but the original desktop shortcuts for BS are still there as well as the new BS 1.01 shortcuts, and Win 7 will not let me delete them or drag them to the Recycle Bin. Am I missing something obvious (having a blond moment!) or do I have to do something specific to allow me to delete the old shortcuts? It comes up with an error message "Could not find this item" "This is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop. Verify the item's location and try again."

Thanks for this, I'm new to Win 7/Vista, and this I should find very useful. My older brother has had issues with Vista, which is why I have only upgraded to Win 7 today, hopefully this will solve a lot of problems for me. Very much appreciated.

Couple of things, firstly I just went to the link and got a virus threat warning, so I wouldn't advise anyone try it. Secondly, my new rig is arriving today, similar to your setup (but using i7 930 overclocked to 4Ghz), I was wondering what sort of performance/fps you're getting.

Or LOMAC, you don't need FC1. Several posts about this, you do not need FC1 installed.

I'm just getting a new rig, I plan to install DCS:BS and FC2 on it, if I then decide to put FC1 onto it at a later date, will it allow me to, or should I install FC1 before I instal FC2?

From the FAQ Q: Will it be possible to build missions in both Black Shark and Flaming Cliffs FC 2.0 and use them interchangeably? A: For the most part yes, but some mission modification would probably be needed due to a different set of flyable aircraft.

I read that thread already, but, as I said above, as ED did for Black Shark, is there any way of getting the flight manual before they release FC2 so we can get up to speed on differences between FC1 & FC2.

This just gets better, a sample profile will have my X52 Pro up and running much quicker for me now, as (hopefully) most of the commands will be entered, and if I don't like the sample version, it won't take as long to reconfigure to my preferences. Thanks ED, much appreciated.

ED did it for Black Shark, so is there any chance of getting access to the manual before the English release? It would help in passing the time (which is driving me nuts) and stop me checking the forums like every few minutes. People could start to program their joysticks and get to grips with changes from FC1 or LOMAC. Pleeeease!!!

So I've ordered my new gaming rig (Win 7, 64bit Home Premium, i7 930 2.8Ghz @ 4Ghz, XFX ATI 5850 1Gb, 6Gb Ram) in anticipation for FC2/DCS:BS update; when I re-install BS, is there a simple way to transfer all my saved game/logbook and configuration settings over without having to re-do all my key commands etc. I'm upgrading from Win XP on my Dell XPS M1710 (which I'll keep BS installed on so I can still play when I go away to sea, albiet a slide show at times). It's probably just a drag and drop afair, but not sure if it is that simple and which files to drag over. Another point is, will they all still be valid settings if BS is going to be patched to make it FC2 compatible?

Now FC2 is about to be released, I'm about to upgrade to a new system and Win 7. Thing is, do I go for 32bit, 64bit, Home, Professional or Ultimate? I'm mainly interested in using this new rig for gaming (specifically DCS and FC2) and various other games (FPS type). I do a little surfing, watching movies and some Office stuff, but my main reason for upgrade is DCS Black Shark/A10 and FC2. I also want to be able to use my TIR4 and Saitek X52 Pro and Rudder pedals. I'm looking at an i7 overclocked from 2.8Ghz to 4Ghz with an ATI graphics card (not sure which one yet), and 6Gb RAM @ 1600Mhz. Any advice will be welcomed, thanks in advance.

I'd been flying a mission for over an hour, killed anything that could shoot at me and was mopping up the Artillary and support trucks. I was taking my time, playing around at hovering/manoeuvring up close and personal at very low level and killing things with just a few gunshot rounds in boresight mode. Anyway, I'd shot a truck, he started burning so I moved on to the next target, hovering just above the burning truck only to get hit by it's blast when it exploded.
