Airport Steerpoints are listed in the Divert page accessed from the Nav page (on UFC press FUNC then NAV, then select DIVERT) bringing up this page will list the nearest bunch of airfields, and pressing the left hand side LSB will set it as a Steerpoint, as well as show relevant radio/ILS/TACAN frequencies.

Once you've marked up your target and are all lined up on your bombing run with the CCRP ASL lined up, make sure you hold the Weapons Release for about two seconds as the pipper passes the release point. You will hear it drop off, or you can see it on the DSMS page if you have it on.

I should have said "Spheroids" above. In a nutshell, you take off in say grid GG which is in Spheroid 37T, JTAC gives you a target in grid KN which is in Spheroid 38T. Because you set off in 37T, that is where your CDU thinks all your coordinates are for, you give it the UTM but only put in XXNNNNNN, missing off the initial 38T, so your CDU points to that spot in Spheroid 37T. It mentions in the last link above how to put the right Spheroid into the CDU.

also mentioned here, the entry on page 3 has a thumbnail that shows it pretty well. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=76127&highlight=38T&page=2

Are you on the same grid? either 37T or 38T? Look on your map (your attached thumbnail) and along the G and K grid lines they are not square, that is because they are in different grid references. More than likely your target is in the other grid to the one you are in, and you need to tell the CDU this. This has been mentioned in other threads, try reading through this one http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69021

JTAC marking targets with laser
andyfoot replied to theghost's topic in User Created Missions General
IR is for where JTAC will be pointing at your target so you can see where it is using your NVG's. Laser is where you are going to drop a LGB, but JTAC is going to use it's laser to guide your bomb, you just need to Spot it using your TGT Pod so you can get your Hog lined up for a bombing run in CCRP mode, making sure you are on the same laser code (usually 1688 I think). -

Here's another one to watch And from this page: http://firstfighterwing.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=64 SNAKE - (A/S) Directive call to oscillate an IR pointer about a target. -
JTAC marking targets with laser
andyfoot replied to theghost's topic in User Created Missions General
Try watching this vid The 9 line brief gives you an Initial Point (IP) to attack from, with a heading to be flying towards your attack, when you are at your IP and flying in the general direction contact JTAC and tell him IP Inbound, he'll tell you to continue, you then request Sparkle (he turns his IR marker on), you tell him Contact the Mark (he is at the end with a cross, your target is the other end), he'll then clear you Hot, you tell him you are In and proceed with your attack. Once done, tell him Off. This is a Type 2 attack, where you will need to verify your target with the JTAC, could be marked by smoke (Willy Pete, WP, White Phospherous) and he'll then tell you where the target is in relation to the marker. Not sure, but think Snake is for lasing with LGB's. -
I like to use the laser beam at night to point to my target when using NVG (after searching for it on the TGT Pod, then locking it up) then going Guns to take out whatever is at the end of the beam, try it!!

Don't think it is, you can customise the remaining MCFD to show the pages you want though.

OK, just done some learning, consolidation flying and watching vids. Firstly, setting up your Mark Point, I didn't fully appreciate the different ways to set a Mark Point, namely Overhead Mark Point (by pressing "MK" on either the CDU or UFC) which is what you have to do for the Initial Point set at the start of this thread. Then there is the Designated Mark Point - by designating a point by a sensor (TAD, TGT Pod, Mav, HUD TDC) using the TMS Right Short, and finally the Weapons Event - Z Mark Point for the last Weapons Release you conducted. - Up until now I was always using the TMS Short Right .... Dooh!! A few other things/pointers that you may find helpful: 1. To set your Initial/Anchor Point (or Offset Point) as a Mark Point - if it is Mark Point A, you have three methods I've found - *You can either enter "A" into the scratchpad and then press the top left LSK (on CDU) or OSB 19 on MCFD when CDU page is up. *You can enter "MRK A" into scratchpad (note there are 2 spaces between MRK and A) and then press the 2nd from top left LSK (on CDU) or OSB 18 on MCFD when CDU page is up. * You can use the CDU rocker to cycle through Steerpoints. (Not sure, but think you may have to be in "Mission" mode on the Steerpoint Selector) *To View the new Mark Point on the TAD (e.g. to check you have set it correctly and it isn't where your TGT Pod is pointing or where the TAD cursor is sitting) you have to select "Mark" on the Steerpoint Selector on the AAP, then cycle through Mark Points until your new one is selected. 2. If you want to view the new destination on the TAD, after entering the Bearing and Distance, you have to press the 3rd right hand side LSK (on CDU) or OSB 8 on MCFD when CDU page is up. This has a question mark and number next to it i.e. "?3" and pressing the key will assign a new Steerpoint at the Bearing/Distance from the Offset that is displayed on your CDU. To view this on the TAD, you will have to switch the Steerpoint selector on the AAP to Mission and cycle through to the Steerpoint you have just created (MSN 003 in this case), this will display only the Steerpoint selected, with no other Steerpoints/Markpoints visible. 3. If you want to have this new Steerpoint on view with your Flightplan, it's quite straightforward. Firstly Select "FPM" on the CDU, press the right hand side LSK next to your current Flight Plan (normally this will be the top LSK) which is shown as active with an asterisk next to the arrow. This will bring up your Flight Plan, showing up to three Steerpoints on each page. In our case, we need to add Steerpoint 3 onto our Flight Plan. Enter "3" into the scratchpad and press the left hand LSK which should be showing "[]03 (NEXT)" and should change to something like "[]03 3 MSN003" Make sure the Steerpoint selector is set to "FLT PLAN", and you should be able to see the new Steerpoint added onto your Flight Plan display. 4. Don't forget that changing settings on the Up Front Controller (UFC) will override switch settings on the AAP, and vice versa. For example, your AAP is selected to "MISSION" but since you set that you press "FUNC" and "7" (FPLAN) on the UFC - the TAD will show your Flightplan. In other words, when you need to check that you are in a particular mode for the Steerpoint, it is not enough to just look at your Steerpoint Selector on the AAP.

I'm still getting to grips with this myself, and there are several very good vids on YouTube to watch, here's a couple to start off with that are quite helpful: There are other ways of doing this, like using the TAD. You can Hook your Mark Point and the TAD will display a range and bearing for you. You need to set the AAP switch from "FLT PLN" or "MISSION" to "MARK" to see any Mark points on the TAD, then you cycle through the Mark Points like you normally cycle through Waypoints/Steerpoints. Also, if your TGT pod is SOI, your Mark point will be the point where the pod is pointing at, not your position.

Which version on Notepad should I use? I'm not very familiar with programming, so please excuse the ignorance. I went to the Notepad++ website and downloaded the zip file, but it contains two versions "ansi" and "unicode". I use Win 7, 64bit, not sure which version of Notepad++ to use and don't want to risk trashing my install. Please disregard, went back to website and downloaded the Installer version.

Another good vid, thanks Gerryabbot I've watched a lot of your vids and learnt lots of valuable points. One small point on your vid, after you set your program parameters and you press "Ret" to enter a value, if you press "Ret" a second time it takes you back to the active program display - without having to switch the toggle to Off and On again. Looking forward to more of your vids.

You can also change your loadout whilst doing your Ramp Start - by contacting Ground Crew. You have to wait for the EGI alignment anyway, so I tend to change my loadout once I have permission to start engines. That way, by the time I come to "Load All" on the MFCD's it will load my new DSMS page correctly. I also increase my fuel to 75% so I have more "playtime", as well as setting weapons profiles, all containable within the EGI alignment time.
-
Genbrien, did you shut down both engines to initiate repair? Maybe when you stalled it, something was modelled that wrote the engine/instrumentation off.
-
Think I may have sussed where I was going wrong. I hadn't reset the Extinguisher selector handle. I haven't tried this after a repair, but just started the Defend Camp Yankee mission, pulled the Extinguisher selector lever out (without initiating it) and tried to start the engine, but nothing happened. I reset the selector, and it started no problem. Will try it next time I limp back and repair an engine. Guess it's another of those "Ah Ha!" moments, you just gotta love the level of detail of integration of the systems, I'm guessing it's a start interlock which would make sense. Thanks for the suggestions.
-
Tried motoring it, temperature is low, everything looks normal and gauges show minimum scale readings.
-
In the Defend Camp Yankee mission, on different occasions I've had damage/fire on both engines, cut fuel to relevant engine, extinguished fire, limped back and landed, repaired and then not been able to restart the damaged engine. Any thoughts on if I'm missing something, or is this a bug?

UTM coordinate fail, even using WarriorXs guide. What now?

BlackRazor, thanks for your reply, guess I couldn't find it because I've never tried multiplayer. -

Dragon, really enjoyed your Youtube vids, very well done. I have one question though, how do you bring up the mission briefing screen? I didn't know you could do that once you were in a mission. I've searched the manual, but can't find any info on it. -
I can confirm this also happened to me. Wonder if it's related to the "I'm stuck on the grass that has super-glue qualities" that I get if I stray off the tarmac at an airport during an Emergency Landing, which is annoying as once I'm repaired, I can't taxi back onto the tarmac to continue a mission.

Once you have created the target as a SPI, try "Broadcast SPI" (DMS Long Left) and then try getting your wingman to attack.

Excellent work, very much appreciated, thanks. This would be good as a Sticky.
