  1. Wow, operation flashpoint just got a massive view distance increase. No wait, that lockon! my pc hurts...
  2. apt and a absolute crack up :) love it, this fourms on fire, who ever said repeating the same old stuff over and over again is no good for the forum? its whats keaping it alive (sarcasm) Wit is the spice of sim-life :) just wait, Iam gona get some popcorn... P.S. nice model BTW!
  3. ED better put it in if they know whats good for them ;)
  4. Hi guys, i may be a complete noob in this regard but over on the russian forums, from what i can gather, "swu" and "Dronas" has been working on a Yak-52 since 2005 and has now implemented the aircraft in game. http://www.forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=12293 Some of the ED team are there also The model is one of the best that i have seen, comaparable to the Su-25T in detail. This would be one of the best addons for this simulator allowing new and not so new pilots to practice their flying skills via the traditional method with the posibility of a complete initial pilot training to encourage correct flying techiques.:pilotfly: All good news
  5. It is perfectley realistic for a pilot to look behind them, they dont swivel their head, they just lean either side. therefore we need 6dof in every aircraft :) /sarcasm actualy in total air war, as you rotated you head, the point of view actualy translated such that you can emulate the pilot leaning to look behind.
  6. I know that this may offend some hard core vanilla pilots, but does this mean that we could possibly swap the vanila model for an L-39 and create realistic air force pilot training from inital to operational. I only choose the vanila because it has roughely simmilar cockipts and AFM which would be far removed from the real L-39 but more accurate than a su. Real posibilty i hope a lockon training mod with full campaines based on training
  7. once again all the interested, relevent people are communicating correct and fairley well resaerched information which is great to see in the ifoum without much or any flaming. lets keep it his way. it makes for a much mor interesting and informative read among semi-adults ;) Iam still of the stong opinion that our ADF will benifate from the F-35 + wedgetail more over a F-22 + F-35(ef, raf, grip) + wedgetail combination simpley due to the fact that we do not need a strong invasion force, more defencive and inervention type of assignments. iam not going to repeat the networking factor of the wedgetail in detail as other people have done, but this and the training of the crews is the most important thing when it comes to any operation. case in point is the ADF involment abroad including the middle east, we have a small number of units over there yet we are given some of the most important jobs with the most precise and reliable delivery of any force in the field. no point in denying that. this extended to the new generation of warfare, means that australia and its allies will have the most highely trained, intelegent officers with a perspective on the situation both therter wise and politicaly wise. this opposed to a narrow minded force with superior numbers and longer reach where their officers react roboticaly, without as much communication and without intercomunaication about the larger picture. p.s sorry if its a little incoherent, iam still sleapy :) oh and keep up the intelegent reporting!
  8. I got the news yesterday on the radio just as i got home, I could not belive it, i thought it was a stupid prank or something, than bam on the news as i walked through the door. He may not have been everyones cup of tea, but he was highly respected by everyone that knew and knew of him. Sad times indeed...
  9. Hey rugg man, i think you said that you were running 2 PCs to have both screens going due to the fact that you need a VGA output for both. Would it be possible to simpley use a second video card to run the second TB monitor, therefore multiple cards for multiple screens thus having a sim pit without switches and individual screens for each instrament, insted having like 3,5,7... TB monitors in an pit... combined with 3 projectors using aspheric optics thus creating the best sim pit ever without any hooking up a single switch?
  10. I got that book too, its not to bad, doesnt go into much depth on the current systems but is a very good read for the X-35 as opposed to the F-35
  11. GG, the bulges under the wing of the f-22 are the control surface actuators, the wing is to thin to house them fully. Due to my scientific involvement in the JSF i have seen videos documenting a full interdiction mission in the f-35 simulator. with regard to the cockpit, it is very well desinged and allows the pilot to mainley be a sensors manager while most of the flight is flown on autopilot, only takeoff/landin and over the target area are flown manualy. interms of having to manipulate the cockpit controls during high G loadings, the pilot will only be using hotas and distorted voice recognistion for manipulating the systems (you dont realy need to change the focus of your sar map while evading an incoming threat). with respect to steath, any capability that allows you to detect and be within weapons range of the enemy is enough stealth for me so if it can detect you at 20nm, so be it. but also as someone said, on the first days of the campaine, focus is on EW and air defences, after these systems have been down graded, external weapns stores become more common, ref 'C4'.
  12. Although this may not help, i know of some hornet pilots that had a go at lockon when it first came out and they got hooked! they all loved it! They also added that any decent online pilots would give them a run for their money, neglecting the physicality of flying high performance aircraft! From hornet pilots! We got street cread!
  13. I know that the campaign has been canceled but i did a search and could not find a diffinitive reason. It looked so promising :( Is it due to the current state of modeling of the F-15 ?
  14. Australian dollers :) with 50 cents postage!
  15. Hey guys, I was wondering if there was any official changes to how BS is going to be sold interms of a complete package with FC or still a seperate package ie FC + BS. I know that is stated on the site that it will be sepeate but just wondering if there was any changes? P.S. Just got a Track IR and for anyone wondering if they should get one or not, it is the best $260 i have ever spent!! Dont wait for BS to get a Track IR!! Its so awesome!
  16. Hey ICE, remeber about... i think it was two years ago when we had one of the hottest days on record and there was a stiff westerly blowing, what was it like 42 in the sun 48 in the wind! I think it was around xmas or something Newcastle had a blackout due to everyones AC running full ball :)
  17. The type will be in service until at least 2010 with the incident not changing the planed retierment of the aircraft.
  18. Well like i said without going to the effort of making new aircraft, would people be interested in making a series of training tracks with the su-25 which covers the before mentioned proper fliying techinques. Preferably someone that has been there, done that. I think that itself would be a critical element to this simulator and increase the standard of flying and enjoyment accros the entire spectrum of virtual pilots. For things like navigation, it has already been done via Ironhand's steam gauge navigation track. And even posibley a nice training skin for the su-25 :) I would do it my self but i haven started my pilot traning yet and would not want to put a speculative view of militaty flying techniques as the basis for future virtual pilots as that may introduce bad habits. Just my two cents anyway
  19. Your absolutley right, what i ment was that if you use correcting optics, i mean, obviousley you are not going to use the end of the cavity sticking out of the aircraft, you are going to have some optics in between. From these optics, if you are trying to get the smallest 'beam waist' the aperature must be large, ie there is an inverse proportionality between beam waist and aperature size that cannot be changed via correcting optics, that what i ment by gaussian diffraction not standard diffraction off an edge (sorry for that confusion) but still, the size of the aperature does not dictate the coherence length of the laser but the cavity and gain medium. Iam not crash hot on masers but i belive that their linewidth is not very narrow due to the mechanism of rotational excitation of the NH3 bonds (dont quote me on that) Every thing you have said is 100% but do a little reaserch if you like on coherence length and how it is defined interms of lasers and you should find that the coherence length is a function of the bandwidth only as if you think about what happens when you mix waves of differnt frequencies together, superposition dictates that the waves will mix in time space and remain seperate in frequency space thus causing a phase defect. i know this may not bee excactley on topic but it is good to clear these things up :) I realy encourage you to persue this further as it is a very interesting type of physics to understand :) EDIT: And yes electromagnetic radiation of any type still obeys the same laws
  20. I agree Weta43, but coherence from what i understood from your post was in conflict to the actual meaning of coherence (consistant phase relationship over time, or distance) The relationship of diffraction limmited optics is what you are talking about not the relationship between coherence length and gaussian diffraction limit. For example i have made a fibre laser with a bandwidth of over 20nm thus a coherence length of micrometers and another fibre laser with a 10kHz linewidth which has a coherence length of ~ 30km. Both have a aperature of ~10 micrometers and suffer the same divergence due to the numerical aperature hence a relatively large colimation beamwidth as compared to a bulk-optic type laser.
  21. Spatial divergence is not a function of light coherence. Spatial divergence is a function of the cavity configuration. hence it is the cavity that defines the output beem not the wavelength bandwidth
  22. Hi all, I just had a thought that will probley polarise the replys from this but i was thinking that since this sim seems to be headed towards pure realism via avionics and flight model fidelity, that it may be a viable option to include traning aircraft from both the Soviets and the US. Iam not an expert of either nations training methods (thats why iam posting) but I was thinking something along the lines of an L-39 primary flight trainer for the soviet block and T-6 for the US. The Training would be along the lines of proper flying technique in the areas of: Basic Aircraft Performance (handeling) Takeoff and landing Navigation (simmilar to Ironhands excelent tutorials) Flight Characteristics (Stalls, Spins, Corner velocity etc..) Formation flight Time on target Night flying With this rough (very rough) outline of basic flight training i think that this would possibley increase the appeal to a wider audience and make all of us more provficent sim-aviators I do conseed that this could all be done on the current SU-25 with the AFM but i think it would be a excelent addition to this world leading sim. (Sorry FO guys but hopefully it will remove that novelty from your sim... once again realy sorry:( )
  23. I just put in X-band to try and get this topic back on to the F-22 interms of stealth preservation over detectors. I have had a think about it... for 3.5 years now and from a patch leed point of view, fibre optics is not much mode difficult to matain than wire. yes you have to keep it clean but that is a pocket-size kit away. Iam sure that if an round or high velocity incident particle was to impinge on a wire with force enough to break a sheathed fibre, it would sever the wire also. Good Point but there still may be simpler methods of correcting effective abberation rather than adaptive optics but it is definatey an avenue to reaserch For two oscillating particals under coulombic interaction the attractive Van der Waals interaction varies as the inverse 6th power of the separation of the two oscillators;). Its all in the hamiltonian:thumbup: and than on to the Madelung constant:P I will be getting a pay cut from $85000 au (first year out) in photonics to that value 10 years after joining the RAAF... or that may be because i love flying too much:pilotfly: LIDAR is a very hot ticket right now in defence science and for thoise in the know... jump on it because technology is advancing rapidly:thumbup: even faster after my reaserch is finished:book::book::book::book::book::book::cry:
