  1. you say DCS 1 .. which version? original? I have never been hit by any IR sam, nor even have them fire at me from 15K AGL prior to 1.5. wondering what could be causing it.. something specific where the launch parameters get messed up?
  2. So since 1.5 I have been noticing some drastic increase in SAM engagement altitude. Just today I got hit by a strela at almost 16K (SAM was less than 3K AGL), a few weeks ago I could have sworn I got killed at 25000 by a TOR on multiplayer (with an agl alt of just under 1200ft). So I decided to set up some single SAM encounters at various altitudes. SAMs are placed at 0AGL And player starts between 26000 and 28000ft (the absolute max altitude of the A10c to be anywhere functional) And sure enough on first fly by the SA15 shot me out of the sky at 24500 that's a 24% increase on max altitude range. So now I am wondering, is the info on the SAMS wrong in game?or online publications wrong? Currently the average MAXIMUM engagement altitude of the SA15 (average of numerous online sources ) is still 20 000 feet, that's a far cry from almost 25000 feet. It would require a an extremely highly skilled crew in optimum weather conditions to even get a hit at the max range, let alone get hit at 5000 higher than max. I will continue to test this with other units, but so far, I see I was not dreaming, something is way off. SAM.trk
  3. I went from vector clip to trackclip pro and no way I would ever go back. track clip has active ir lights while vector clip is reflective. The difference is very noticeable in display reaction time to head movement. more precise, quicker response. I drop my head set all the time... always worrying if this will be the time it breaks and it has lasted over 3 years now. even if it did break, it would be easy to fix.
  4. is the server down? Not showing up in server list but the app shows 7 pilots and server online.

  6. ATM there is nothing on the market that beats TrackIR 5. It is a game changing piece of hardware that will without a doubt change your mind, the first time you use it. Nothing beats its precision, resolution and frame rate, not to mention native support to pretty much every important simulator on the market today.

  8. mine wouldn't get recognized on any other pc.
  9. So I tried a firmware update, but it failed then my JS wouldn't even get recognized anymore. After several hours scouring DCS, Simhq and any other forum, I found the solution on a reddit post. After many failed attempts using bulk driver and update, found a reddit post. In bios, if using intel chip, in BIOS check xHCI preboot or xHCI handoff, disable either and retry firmware update.
  10. IR missiles usually only used when you are on his 6. Even an A10 can out maneuver an IR missile coming from the front or side. Get behind, get close and then you may have a chance with IR. Firing head on is a waste of that missile.
  11. you might be right. last state before timer runs out.
  12. I think it repairs your aircraft to the same state its in when just before calling for repairs. so if you retracted your gear before calling then they would repair it retracted.. and that would cause more damage when you lower, so it would take a second call for repair. Next time gear breaks leave it lowered and it will be fixed in lowered position so you can taxi again. The repair scenario is kind of a simple model.. it actually just respawns a fresh vehicle in the same location heading etc with all the controls left in the same state they were in previously.
  13. I'm guessing from the map description, you could bring it up in google earth, draw a 390 km line across (west to east) just south of Dubai (with Dubai slightly west of the middle). Then 390 KMs north on both sides. It will give us a rather large area with tons of potential hot spots. Off shore oil platforms, lots of naval, desert cities, islands and mountains in the north, in one of the most dangerous, volatile bodies of water on the planet. I can't wait to start taking out nuclear reactors, gunboats and attacking Iranian platforms with the A10C! This map reminds me so much of my early gaming days playing F19 Stealth Fighter and F15 Strike Eagle II. The Persian Gulf and Libya were my favs.
  14. The Huey's can't carry any armoured vehicle in game (max sling load 4000lbs) but there are maps where you can carry a load to a drop zone and trigger spawn points. It would take a chinook to transport MBTs.
  15. Not necessarily. most of my previous MBs require PCI or PCI-e enabling. Without this feature, any issues with graphics card could possibly render you PC unbootable. But yours might autoselect which means what ever your monitor is plugged into (onboard or card) will use that GPU and drivers. Did you enable PCIE? if so is the integrated still showing up in Device Manager?
  16. Check your BIOS. There is an option to disable onboard graphics. Or rather enabled PCI-E graphics (onboard remains enabled in case of a graphic card failure)
  17. You realize DCS is a study sim, which prides itself on high fidelity simulation of actual aircraft. The F15 and Su27 come from the FC3 series (which is an old port of the Lock-on Modern Combat which came out in 2003! c) These have been updated to a certain extent but the complexity and fidelity (weapons, flight , damage, physics etc etc) are locked into since they weren't built from scratch. Any new module must meet DCS standards and from what I have seen, its been the case throughout. To now take a step back and produce an inferior product with arcade controls, simplified controls, avionics systems etc would probably be the end of this series. Every module here has "game mode" for people who don't have time to learn every aspect of the plane, but to actually just release a module WITHOUT a detailed sim mode, would be heresy and very likely a major breach of contract between developer and DCS. Th F18 will come, it will be a highly detailed, high fidelity, pro flight module, and will take several weeks to learn properly. It will probably have some arcade mode with simplified avionics, but don't expect to fly that mode in multiplayer. Digital Combat Simulator, this ain't your grandma's flight sim!
  18. I haven't taken the throttle stick apart but I think it comes down to not having enough tension. It is the same switch as used on the base, but with much less tension applied. I find it a bit too flimsy as well and have it mapped to TrackIr, so every now and then, either the center or pause gets triggered by merely brushing the switch. This usually happens when zoomed in coming in for a gun/rocket attack, forcing me to abort. Frustrating, but not game breaking.
  19. Welcome to the Hawg club. You are now part of the 1% of sim pilots! I bought mine second hand, so I hope it can last at least another 2 years. Might be a while before we see anything this good, since if I',m not mistaken TM stopped manufacturing.
  20. Yes in order of absolute must for flight sim immersion, control/ease of use and fun factor are: 1 TrackIr 2 Good Joystick 3 Rudder pedals
  21. First off a "disgusting amount of money" is a very subjective number. What EA games makes in a "Sims" series is more than all study sims combined several times over and study sims cost much more to make. We are stuck like almost in a time warp, watching games like world of warplanes completely dominate while study sims like DCS and IL2 BOS sometimes have to struggle to gain customers. As for the assumption that adding Mig17 and Mig19 will somehow be the financial bonanza more so than any other module is a definitely far fetched. I think the most anticipated modules are the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and F-14 Tomcat which will each be much more popular than any other new early war Mig module variant. I do agree, that the future does look bright for DCS, I am just hoping with all these new module in the works, the fan base doesn't start to suffer from consumer fatigue. As for me, I think I am most anticipating the Spit 9 and the Apache Longbow, but even if both of these are replicated masterfully with the most brilliant graphics ever seen in a computer game, DCS will not replace WoW as the preferred "flight sim" of the masses. It's just a fact that most people would rather an arcade game then to take weeks to learn how to fly a piece of digital art.
  22. Hi thanks for the reply! The problem I see is that ground forces move in on the stronghold before I can even call it in. I make my first pass, kill the insurgents then loiter, friendly ground forces move in and get destroyed before I can react. So you think a full on bombing running destroying everything would help ? I did not try that since it wasn't part of the ROE.
  23. I've been on the Hammerfell mission (where I am sent to attack the insurgents who are inside the buildings surrounding the mosque). I fly there take out the inf outside, the wait for the friendly BMP to approach. Problem is when he gets close, the insurgents all run out and then destroy it before I can have time to react. I loiter for several minutes but always miss my chance to attack them when the BMPs get close. All other air assets are unreachable. What else should I be doing??
  24. I usually stay 8000 up until most threats are gone. But even just now, I lost the plane coming in for a rocket/gun run on 2S19 Msta formation. took out 3, explosions, smoke shrapnel all all over the place and the last one still manages to almost destroy me. You show me an MG opertaor who can take rocket fire, gau fire, with 3 of his buddies all exploding around him, and he returns MG fire taking down the A10, I'll show you a CMOH recipient (or other nation's equivalent). I guess I just won't be using my guns anymore on the Arty vehicles (which I guess now double as AA) or an armored car/personel carriers (which also double as AA). BMP3 I can understand a little, and if i'm flying 200feet AGL, but , if you put it in perspective I don't think any A10c has ever been destroyed by MG from 3000-6000 feet in its history of combat.
  25. I'm back after an almost 2 year hiatus. Been spending dozens of hours the past week re-learning the A10c. Currently using fast missions to get better before moving on to online and campaigns. Problem is all ground units are unbelievably accurate with their mgs at shooting me down. Today's mission was my rage quit session and I'll explain what happened. Setup mission, some T72s Arty, bmp3, transports and a couple of shilkas. Took out the first 3 T72 out with mavs. Was setting up a rocket attack run on the formation of 2S19. Coming to range i started unloading rockets and here i was getting hit by the BMP3 from 1.6 + nm away!!!! My rocket fire was not succesful in taking them out the 2S19s so i switched to guns, by that time the arty MG finished me off. I never had this problem before but now even BTR units take out my plane flying at 170knots while spraying them down with GAU fire. The enemy MG seems to be exceptionally accurate and like I mentioned this was never a problem before (unless i was under 1nm from target), but now they engage easily at any distance rendering rocket attacks and GAU useless. This is using easy difficulty setting. I can't imagine how good they must be on hard.
