I haven't been in the game since last year but got a new gaming pc and was recently able to play some a10c. I used to have a pc with a gtx 450 and was able to use icontrol dcs by creating a virtual monitor in windows and expanding it to my iPad. With the r290 I don't have the option to extend the monitor. Tried everything, tried Idisplay, tight vnc with demoforge re-installed video drivers (14.6) and still cannot extend may desktop anymore. Anyon with ati card successfully running icontrol?

Just a heads up to everyone getting he blank screen on loading. Got this back from support: "Please delete file factory.lua in \DCS World\dxgui\bind\ folder. And try to launch game again. Please update your DirectX http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=35 an VCREdist http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=5555" I had DX and VCE upto date but after deleting factory.lua and ran repair.. all worked fine again. I think 1.28 messed up my controls, but I can live with that.

I can't revert back since it took almost a full day to download 1.28... im hoping it's a simple fix.

DCS World doesn't start after 1.2.8 update.

So I finally decided to get a new gaming/sim PC. 4770K with R9 290. I didn't do much research on these forums regarding AMD, but FSX forums seem to indicate the ATI drivers seem to be much improved and issues apparently minimal. After posting my specs on another post I now see that many people have issues with FPS/stuttering with AMd cards. Tell me this isn't so!!! From all the reviews I read regarding the 290, its a great performer at a cheaper cost than a GTX780. my past rigs included GTX450, GTX7950x2 and prior to that I had Radeon cards from 2000-2006. The radeon cards sometimes gave me grief but the omega drivers usually cleared them up. My primary games are Skyrim, WWiionline, ARMA series, DCSW (A10c, CA and FC3 for now) and FSX (with a few addons). The last PC I had didn't run them (apart from Skyrim) very well, but it was expected since I only had a dual core OC to 3.1. Graphically I could use mid to high settings with the GTX450. Does anyone have the AMD 290 while running DCSW and FSX smoothly. I expected to be able to run the above at 40-60fps smoothly (ill take smooth running at lower FPS then stuttering at higher FPS). Are people still using Omega drivers to improve performance? I purchased all the major components from Tigerdirect and now I'm wondering if I should send back the R290 and get the GTX770 instead.

Currently running of the company's Telus data huib. 10Gb limit per month and not very reliable. Waiting on Morad to get back to me to see what they can do for me. Using their AP I can sign up for 85 Gb monthly limit with 5 down 3 up. But when they came out, the signal wasn't strong enough. I'm stuck here till at least Sept.. possibly till next march, and my rig should all be ready by next weekend. If I get a new job, I'll probably move to Calgary with the wife and dog and work out in the patch again for another year or so.

So the ramdisk is only using RAM as a logical drive temporarily until you reboot. Interesting, I'll have to look into that. Eno I'm west of Edson (for work NOT by choice!) Shaw don't have any lines running here and the only other option was through a wireless AP but our place is kind of in a hole but one provider is looking to help us out so we might have high speed soon. As for the AMD issues, I was hoping they were resolved but by looking around threads, I think I probably should have gone with a GTX 770 (which was 200$ cheaper!). I used to be AMD/ATI for the longest time, then performance was lagging so I went intel/Nvidia for the past few years. During my ATI days I only used Omega drivers, due to the lack of support from ATI. Thanks for you guys' feedback. Should have the system up and running by weekend.

My cooler is the Noctua NH D14. Other than the sheer size of the beast, it can beat just about any closed loop system. How does the RAMDisk software actually work? If its worth upgrading I might grab another pair of 4 GB sticks.

Been out of the game for a while now. Haven't had a great gaming rig in a while (due to working abroad). Finally bit the bullet and decided to go all out with the wife's blessing ;) Spent just a little over 2000 $ CnD through tigerdirect and newegg. Should have it next week. Only problem is I'm currently in western alberta so I've been trying to get reliable fast internet to no avail, so not sure how often I'll be online. I'd like some feedback on my system: Intel Core i7-4770K -should easily OC to 4.7 Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero (is onboard sound good enough for a few months before I upgrade? What recommendations for sound cards?) -One of the best i7 OC boards around PATRIOT VIPER 3 DDR3 8GB (2X4GB) 2400MHZ DUAL -Needed a good low profile RAM due to size of cooler MSI AMD RADEON R9 290 GAMING 4GB (unsure which driver suite I'll be using) -Good price for a top performer Seagate 240GB SATA 2.5 SSD (OS and main install location for FSX and possibly DCS) -Top 10 240GB SSD XFX 750W XXX Edition -Tier 1 PSU at a great price Noctua NH D14 cooler -Top i7 4th gen cooler Logitech G105 Keyboard Win7 64 pro Already have: TrackIr 5 HOTAS warthog with CH pro pedals Logitech M500 1TB hybrid SSD drive Ipad mini with Icontrol DCS 3 or 2 monitor setup 21'X3 or 24'X2 (using my company monitors for now)

Good question.. Never could figure that out myself. ARMA had one of the best Fog of war of any game. Icons slowly disappeared (or remained in same spot) when friendliest (including player) lost vis on them.

Just to add, only delete and rename AFTER you exit out to debrief.

I find the campaigns to be easily the most frustrating part of the series. I do understand the complexities of a dynamic campaign generator, but to go backwards and only provide a completely linear campaign where we cannot restart any part of it or dismiss the mission altogether without saving. (how many of us accidentally failed a mission due to a silly mistake like pausing during a phone call). The only solution I have come up with is to always copy the logbook (under saved games folder) before every flight, so when things go awry, just need to delete the new logbook and rename the copy file back to original. This can work while DCS is running, and will always revert back to original progress.

Wow! The crazies are out lately! I am away for work and haven't played in a while, then saw this thread and the other complaints of a Vista 32 bit user. Sometimes I have a feeling they are all the same person (remember the so called real life A10 technician (and real life pilot) who couldn't comprehend even the most basic a10 terms and claimed it was much too complex? Anyways, I never liked DRM due to some of the issues involved, but DCS has one of the best balances between copy protection and user friendly processes. We aren't impressed by your tech prowess when you fail to comprehend that your activations will be essentially limitless. Dongles are outdated, obsolete and needless technology due to the great DRM tech that can now be implemented without the need for hardware solutions. Dongles are so 2003! Now you can go back to your Apple Genius Bar and tell them how crappy pc games are.

I'm in a similar situation. The one group I think that is far more noob friendly are the SimHQ servers Eno and Firehouse. You have to register (for free on simhq.com), but you will learn more in 15 mins of flying with them then you would spending a week on your own. They also change up the missions very few hours so they have a lot of fun missions. There is also the 177th servers I think they're called. There are some (what I'd call juvenile) servers where the kids will swear, trash talk, but for the most part you will find some great people to fly with ( I removed the server name I used earlier to avoid the inevitable flame war). If you do experience any trash talkers, just switch servers, they are way more mature servers who moderate properly than not. You can also tell which servers are the good ones by simply looking at threads on here. If you see a bunch of "look how many AA kills I got yesterday", "your server missions are soo easy to beat" " etc etc etc.. then you know what type of players will be on there. But definitely fly multiplayer as much as you can(I try for 1-3 hours a night), and do some SP campaign/missions to practice what you learned.

I've spent about 8 hours the past few days trying the CA campaign (with A10C) but keep finding out that my air units are doing nothing but flying a pattern. This is now starting to piss me off. 1 CAS A10 (3.1) fired 3 mavericks 1 F/A 18 fired a maverick and all other units either got shot out of the sky or like my 2 F16 CAP flight actually AVOID the SU25 formation.. which eventually shoots me down as I start my run on target. I figured my CAP flight would engage anything in their flight path. I don't understand how the AI flights can be managed. what do I need to do to trigger their roles and actually have them engage the enemy?????????? SEAD.. jeez even though I had them fly right over the SAM... didn't even register an action in the damn debriefing screen!! When I set a path .. I take a guess at where they will be neeeded and set ROE to FIRE, but nothing for almost every single aircraft. I believe its 12 Friendly Air units in total and only 2 fire.. the rest get shot down and the ones left ignore the enemy. I am trying to really enjoy this game (and I do), but I need to polish my skills, and I'm tired of the cookie cutter fast missions, which leaves me with the scripted campaign... so I'm not sure what to do anymore. Yes I do try multiplayer (and really enjoy it IF they have Fog of war) , if not, its just a drag flying to an area getting shot down by something you couldn't see because I'm only using a 20 inch monitor so I can't pick out mobile SAMs 10km away with my eyes. I want to continue playing the campaign (and try the others available), but to be playing with a side which seems so incompetent, it's starting to be more of a waste of time. I even tried setting up a Fire target where I know there are SAMs, but of course the SEAD flight dropped their MAVs exactly on the position I had marked (used F6 to watch, and saw them all miss the SAM which were nearby). What am I missing here?

When I start mission 2 (bridge mission) I used auto start. Then I tried to set paths for other air units (using f10) until I got message ready to fly. When I switched to the a10, all systems were turned off, so I restarted auto start, going through the steps with nothing happening in cockpit (remained dark) I made sure I selected the correct unit ( even selected wingman) and nothing. Had to delete logbook and rety without leaving cockpit ( or else it goes to dark status again). Is this a new bug( haven't tried CA GA campaign yet)?

I sometimes get this problem when in multiplayer. Although I'm not using multiple monitors, I have a "virtual" monitor for use with Icontrol. The only way to fix it is to alt tab out of the game change the display resolution Windows resolution NOT game resolution", and Italy tab back into game with proper resolution"

actually I forgot to add that even manual lase won't work. Strange thing is it will work up to wp3 and then wont work until i fly over the target.. I haven't checked to

I've been watching a lot of real. Life maverick videos and noticed something that isn't modeled in game. When a Mav is fired, the video seems to be transmitted directly from the Mav sensor back to the pilot, so he can actually watch the target get closer and closer until impact. . In game the sensor on works from mavs still in the pylon, and once it's fired, the video will go offline. since the first use of A10s (gulf war) we have all been watching videos of mavs being led right to target, most famous being Gen Swartzkopf showing off the bridge getting hit (and one lucky Iraqi running through just before the impact). Am I wrong about this?
