Freetrack not working, no startup and no mapping options
geert replied to tovivan's topic in DCS: C-101 AvioJet
In the map "\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\C-101\Input\headtracker" there´s a default.lua file. I replaced this file by the default.lua file from another plane (I believe I used the A-10C, but I guess any might work). That worked for me regarding the freetrack issue. I mapped the wheel brakes in the axis section but for me they don´t seem to work. I couldn´t map the toe brakes however, don´t know which one I should use, since the toe brakes apparently couldn´t be mapped by any axis. I also encountered several other issues with mapping, where I could not assign joystick/throttle buttons (for instance the GPU). The trim issue was commented on by the devs, however, and was broken due to an DCS world update and is fixed internally. -
Request hud fix for 3D users!!

Great work Lefuneste, many thanks...and happy new year to all of you :) Will try it out now... -
Is there any progress on the HUD fix for stereoscopic 3D? It is really important for us 3D users...so....please?

Unfortunately, it wasn't fixed with the latest patch as I kinda was hoping for. In case the guys from leatherneck sim are watching this, any ETA on this fix for us 3D users? It would really help 3D gamers out if you fixed this...so...please?? :) cheers -

I`m also really hoping that you´ll fix this! :helpsmilie: -
Thanks a bunch Mnemomic! I tried both the Huey and Mi-8 fix and they both worked. Definately better than at wrong debt, but that bug which causes the HUD to be drawn outside of the actual aiming device is, well, a bit a strange to say the least. Maybe something to be fixed one day I hope :helpsmilie: The fix for the Huey that Lefuneste made did work flawlessly, it just stopped working after some update. I browsed this thread but couldn´t find that fix but I can still post it off course if needed. I just briefly looked at it and it included quite a lot of LAU files, that´s the only way I can describe it  BTW Bloody hard to fly a chopper AND shoot as well... Thanks again!

Thanks for all the work guys! Unfortunately, I´m not handy enough with this stuff to find out any of this on my own so I still don't know if any method will work on the Mi-8. There´s also something wrong with the fixed XM60E1 sight on the Huey (made by Lefuneste) It doesn´t seem to work (at least with me!) after (I think) patch 1.2.8. If I have it enabled (using JSGME) and want to switch to the co-pilot seat, it causes DCS to crash. Can anybody please replicate this problem? cheers,

NVidia 3D Vision 2 and DCS World "EDGE"
geert replied to Mnemonic's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Totally agree with this. I mostly fly the A-10C and if it wasn´t for 2 users who made a MOD which makes the HUD usuable, I probably would have dropped A-10C alltogether. I have always liked stereoscopic gaming and I found that using that for simulators is way better than anything else I tried (FPS for examle). I never played DCS without stereoscopic3d for more than a few minutes. -
Yep, the only few times there´s some technical stuff (smartbomb stuff and interviews with some pilots for example) it is obviously meant to be very painfull to watch (at least to me it is), I guess that´s one of the obvious purposes of this doc. I guess you weren´t really looking for a doc like this, but it does fit the title of the topic perfectly :).

I think this one is a "must see": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4SgEy2khOE cheers

Thanks for the HELIX mod! However, when I adjust one or both views (internal or external) I can`t save it succesfully. I have the stereoscopic configuration save key mapped to CNTR + F7, which does not seem to save it. Tried F7 as well. Might it be a problem that I mapped it under CNTR + F7? Cheers!

Hi, There's someone on ebay how sells an alternative to the track clip pro, search for "Delan" or "delan clip" or something on ebay and/or on this forum for more info. He also sells the separate parts so you can do your own assembling. Can't really help you with the electronics stuff, there's other people in here who can I'm sure. cheers, Geert

This MOD is the most important one: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/377037/ It renders the HUD farther away so you can actually use it. I didn't really had any big problems getting 3d to work in DCS, but the HUD at the wrong debt ruined a whole lot. Have fun! Hopefully EDGE will support stereoscopic 3d...

just accidentally saw this thread. 3D is working virtually flawlessly for a few months now for A-10C (and Huey and Mi8) thanks to PeterP and Lafuneste who fixed the HUD problem, which makes all the difference! You can find the fix somewhere on LOF (lock on files). Hope this helps!

Great stuff! But now I want to get my hands on a "good" PS3 eye now, you know, the filter removable version since my head tracking in still quite shaky and light sensitive. Do you happen to know how I can recognize a good ps3 eye in an ebay add or something like that? What are some distinct visual differences between the good and bad ps3 eye? Thanks.

The "delan-clip-guy" kindly provided me with some developed photo film as filter material, which works very good. When you use 2 layers it blocks too much IR-light, but when using only 1 layer it's nice. I have to keep the room dark though, to be able to use it properly and I sit about 30-50 cm from the webcam (PS3 eye) and I'm pretty sure it still works when I sit a bit further away, don't know the limits though. I tried to remove the IR blocker from my PS3 eye but I found out I had the problematic cam where the IR filter is extremely hard to remove. So maybe check whether you're lucky and maybe you can easily remove the IR filter. Yeah, it's definitely a DIY item (Delan clip) but I would say very well made, and the fact that it's made from metal in stead of plastic (like the track IR pro clip) makes it much better (I assume). I also had lots of trouble with freetrack, it kept crashing. I installed both facetracknoir along with pointracker 1.0 beta or something and then facetrack hardly ever crashed, so they share some things I guess. I don't even have to do anything with facetracknoir or the pointracker, I only need to start up freetrack the rest just has to be installed, that's all! BTW, if you like facetracking especially due to the added immersiveness, you might also like stereo3d, I use it all the time, but it's very personal whether you like it or not. Some guys here did some great stuff with some fixes and now it works virtually flawlessly in stereoscopic 3d which to my opinion adds much more to the sim (you need a 3d monitor/projector and some other stuff too). cheers

My thoughts exactly :)

You're welcome. I just checked his ebay add and now it states it's stainless steel, wasn't there before I believe. When I bought the thing he also sold it as a DIY assemble package and somewhat cheaper off course. I guess it's a bit expensive since the parts are presumably dirt cheap, but probably quite a hassle to find all those things out (where to buy etc.). Although I can't say how the performance of this product in combination with freetrack compares to trackIR, I can definitely say that the clip is very solid, the steel part is not flimsy and the connections and stuff well put together. It' incredible how expensive the trackIR system is, so this seems a good alternative. Using it for 3-5 months or so, and had no problems with it. You can use some Tie wraps to connect the thing to your headset.
-
I've got one of those and it's good quality although I've used no alternatives so can't really say how it compares to trackir stuff. It's made from metal and so it's very sturdy, which can't be said apparently for the trackir alternative. I had some problems with freetrack though and I don't even know how I fixed it, I also had to install facetracknoIR and that got it working.

Just some other stereoscopic 3d questions here: is there a way to get the sun not rendered at screen debt? And do any of you know what's the best way to minimize the huge impact on frame rate stereo3d has? So are there any settings changes that have a proportionally high effect on frame rates in combination with stereo3d? Cheers, Geert

Hi! I just registered, basically to say only this: THANKS!!!! ...with sugar on top :) I started playing A-10c a few months ago when I also bought a new 3d monitor, I always liked stereoscopic gaming a lot (on old CRT monitor and projectors) and A-10C is so great in 3D, except off course the HUD problem. So I was really hoping that you or PeterP would get it sorted out at one time and it's really cool that you did! I just tested it for like an hour or so and it (seems to) work like a charm. So probably PeterP might be right that it's possibly just a few people paying attention to this, but I guess those who do play it in 3D are very grateful. And I don't even know how to hand out this rep.power thing...I'm such a noob! :)
