All of those are third party planes. There's nothing stopping you and a bunch of other like-minded SU-27 fans going ahead and making a what-if-fi* SU-27SM, then it will be a match for the other what-if-fi western aircraft (i.e. pretty much anything Gen 4+/5). ED have made clear their preference for doing planes only where they can get most (if not all) the necessary data to do them to as near to 100% as possible, at least in part as a showcase for their non DCS work. On that basis, an ED made SM is unlikely in the near to medium term. When you see a DCS level ED product, you know you are getting as near to real as declassified information allows and something made without them filling in significant blanks, to start down the what-if-fi route would dilute that very strong brand. *i.e. with some key capabilities "best guessed" because of lack of information, that's not to say they are bad quality or deliberately simplified -
what to expect from Su-27 module?

I suspect (although I clearly can't confirm) that there is no information available (in sufficient detail) for export Flankers for exactly the same reason that there's limited data about non-export Flankers, i.e. any nation smart and rich enough to operate modern Flankers is also smart and rich enough to implement and rigorously enforce information classification systems and, short of actual international spying, it's not worth having your proverbial nuts cut off to leak the inner workings of the SM's electronics to the world and his flight simulator playing dog.... -

Do we need to set up a Flanker fan suicide hotline? :music_whistling: -

Well, whilst it would be nice to have a companion fighter to the later model F-15s and the new (and somewhat speculative imvho) US and European models in the works, if the ED view is that they can get significantly closer to 100% accuracy with the S than the SM, then personally I'd rather have the S. The Flanker is a beautiful aircraft and I'd love to have my grubby mitts on any DCS level module for it, however the lifeblood of DCS (as opposed to FC) is accuracy, and I'm sorry but "hypothetical" system* data just doesn't cut it. It's been publicly stated by ED team and testers that multiplayer is only a small portion of the community, so please, don't abandon all plans for an SU-27** for the sake of multi-player balance, just because it's not quite the same era as the matching US jets. And on the plus side, once you have a top notch SU27, if and when data becomes available to model the SM, you're already half way there :) Cheers, Jamie *Same goes for performance data, but I doubt that is the issue here. **Not that I seriously think they really have or will (it would sell like hotcakes, in spite of the detractors), but it's worth putting as a counterpoint to the cries of those who would have an SM or nothing.... -
steam and ED DCS World reg key's

Neither did I, hence the need to think about other options that don't involve shutting FC3 users out.... :) -

No, clearly not at the moment, but that wasn't the question. But if all FC3 owners have to be outside Steam in order to integrate FC3 jets into DCSW, when exactly the same jets are available on Steam individually, that's not a sensible situation in my book. The main point of FC3 was integration with DCSW, and given ED have confirmed that FC3 module owners will receive all updates that will feature in the standalone jets, there is no cost to ED, other than some level of administrative overhead, to granting access. So surely it's better to grant access via existing codes, rather than shut FC3 users out of Steam when you've gone to the trouble of giving everyone else the option. Cheers, Jamie -

Well answered my first question, it just works. Added my GameFly purchases to Steam and it works just fine.... That only leaves the question around the FC3 individual modules. Cheers, Jamie -

Good stuff. Wags (if you are following this thread), is there any plan for keys purchased through channels other than direct from ED? I can't be the only person here who has modules purchased from other retailers (e.g. Game Fly). Also, for those of us with FC3, is it possible to get access to the FC3 single modules via Steam? In my over simplified happy little world it looks like just a case of looking at the keys bound to our ED accounts and doing the jiggery pokery to map these to Steam titles, although I'm sure the mechanics of doing this are not simple... Cheers, Jamie -
Well it's been a very long time since virtual circuits and bumps have been such an absolute joy...... I'm about 4 hours flight time in and just about getting the hang of it (i.e. landing significantly more than I'm crashing!) and I've got to say, the flight model is so smooth and convincing (never flown a Huey, so I can't vouch for accurate) that even when it chews you up and spits you out, you have to smile, because it's fair, harsh, but fair :) Thanks Belsimtek!

The GAU-8 will be retrofitted to shoot fairy dust and unicorn kisses. Combined Arms will be re-titled "Kumbyarms" and will focus on the struggle of the Georgian peace movement, including highly accurate simulations sitting in front of a tank singing songs and chaining your fellow protesters to the undercarriage of military aircraft whilst being manhandled by the brutal fascist military police. The KA-50 will have the gun removed and loud speakers added. They will only supply the music for "Blowing in the Wind". The loading screen will now look like this: Well it's as good as any other guess and so far there is nothing to contradict it.... ;)

A little DCS sale at gamefly.com
Flying Penguin replied to Cnuke's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
As far as I can tell, a serial is a serial no matter where it comes from. If the merchant will take your money, it all seems to work together. So far I have: - 2 modules purchased on Steam - 2 modules purchased directly from ED (one being World) - 2 modules purchased on Gamefly All the serials play nicely together and work fine with downloaded modules from the ED site. So no, I can't imagine you having any troubles... -

The key works just fine if you download from the ED site and activate in-game as normal. And P-51 wasn't on sale when I checked, they must have been in the process of setting it up. Might have to return to get it! :D -

The August 2nd Wags Update! Thread
Flying Penguin replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Well I'm just hoping the "gamerz" will stick to the Steam forums. Enough whining there already. I do think branding A-10C and BS2 as "DLC" will haunt ED. Too many people conditioned to expect DLC for $2, half the talk so far is why on earth DLC would cost >$40.... -

More exposure, more modules sold, more money in ED coffers and an incentive to expedite current projects? Better than a kick in the teeth.... -
Hi, Having signed up for an ED account to purchase the Huey module and (out of reflex) unchecked the newsletter subscription checkbox, it appears that there is no way to re-subscribe. Am I missing something or is there really no turning back? :) Cheers, Jamie

Well I can't speak for other Steam users and clearly one swallow does not a summer make, but whilst I remembered Lock On in the dim and distant past, I had honestly forgotten about the whole DCS thing (being an occasional IL-2 player) until I saw A10C on Steam a couple of weeks ago. I've dusted off my X52, grabbed a TrackIR and am really enjoying getting into the meat of the Hog. And yes, I'm playing on 'full real' settings. Don't underestimate the buying power of 'less than hardcore' simmers, you don't need to live and breathe long acronyms to enjoy DCS. Hell, even getting Flaming Cliffs (even if you have to bundle it with Lock On to satisfy UBI) onto Steam would be a start. Cheers, Jamie
