Business model behind this project?

Not quite.... -
Controlling helicopter with gamepad....
Flying Penguin replied to Rushup's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It all sounds like a bit of a faff to be honest. If you don't have analogue sticks on your gamepad you are probably not going to have enough fine grain control for most purposes and you might as well fly by keyboard only rather than do the four arms and six toes routine. Is it possible to use an old school pad? Almost certainly, assuming you can program key commands to the pad, there is no game imposed requirement for a controller to be specialised, nor for your setup to be in any way reasonable. Is is a good idea? No. People can and do use XBox controllers, but I've never heard of anyone using an old school 8 way pad. Perhaps you could upgrade to an XBox style pad if you don't want a flight sim specific controller at this stage... -
Or my old Il-2 method of taking the AR 234 vertical above the target and using the rear gun periscope to pickle... Never hit a damn thing, but took my wings off a few times :D

Pledge options for payable aircrafts
Flying Penguin replied to Havner's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
True. Marketing is clearly not Ilya's strong point ;) -

I dug up the quote :) -
Pledge options for payable aircrafts
Flying Penguin replied to Havner's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Ilya clarified this in one of his early posts (I can't be bothered to dig it out), but this is the breakdown of aircraft by pledge level, assuming you don't own any of them in DCSW beforehand: $0-19 P-47D Spitfire Mk Ix Bf109K $20-$29 P-47D Spitfire Mk Ix Bf109K One extra (from P-51*, Dora*, achieved stretch goal flyables) $30-$39 P-47D Spitfire Mk Ix Bf109K Two extra (from P-51*, Dora*, achieved stretch goal flyables) $40+ P-47D Spitfire Mk Ix Bf109K P-51* Dora* Achieved stretch goal flyables * P-51 and Dora at these levels are only licenced for DCS WWII $100+ DCSW Pledge P-47D Spitfire Mk Ix Bf109K P-51 (Immediately and including use in DCSW) Dora (On release of the module and including use in DCSW) Achieved stretch goal flyables I've ignored the various multiple pack options, as if you are pledging at that level, you wouldn't be worrying about $10 vs $30 pledges :) Now clearly if no stretch goals are reached, a $30 pledge is the same as a $40 pledge, but that's my understanding of the structure. From a risk/reward perspective, the $100 pledge is only $20 more than buying the P-51 and Dora modules at full whack, and given they are supplied before the project as a whole is released (or gets into trouble, depending on how optimistic you are!), might represent an attractive way of buying both whilst supporting the KS at the same time... From a technical perspective, I'm not sure how they are planning to be interoperable but to also enforce the licence conditions of DCSW vs DCS WWII, but it's not an insurmountable technical challenge. -
What do you mean Periscope bombing? Only reference I can find to SU25s having a periscope is one for rearwards visibility....

I just wait till there are a few I want then order from HLJ... Even picked up their 1/48 F22 for silly (little) money. One slight catch is that it's this version: Nothing that some aftermarket decals and an Olympic swimming pool full of primer won't fix.... ;)

It's the Hasegawa one, it's a beautiful kit. Nothing added other than a set of straps, missiles from Weapons Set C and turned metal pitot tubes. It has to be one of the nicest, if not the nicest, kit I've made. Just be careful to match the intakes to the body exactly and you WILL need filler for the gun inserts.

Well I was until my boys came along last year, sadly my workshop is now a nursery and all my gear is relegated to the loft... :helpsmilie: Love the Millenium Falcon btw :D Here are a few of mine, all 1/48: 1/48 Saab J-35J Draken by Flying Penguin, on Flickr 1/48 Saab J-35J Draken by Flying Penguin, on Flickr Spitfire F.22 by Flying Penguin, on Flickr Spitfire F.22 by Flying Penguin, on Flickr Do-335a Pfiel by Flying Penguin, on Flickr

He has already clarified this: -
There's an alternative answer, patience... I've pledged (at $40 level), I don't have the Pony (it's a fish out of water, albeit a beautiful one), I'm quite happy to wait and hold fire on the Dora. The rewards seem quite attractive, and depending on the state versus stretch goals later on , I may increase it. Patience grasshopper.... There are plenty of other planes to keep you busy till then.

Per their kickstarter page "The last major release in the DCS line, DCS World, is distributed via a free-to-play model. The core game is available free of charge." -
How many of you regularly fly medium/heavy bombers?
Flying Penguin replied to Geronimo989's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
You could get a similar "immersion" in any well flown team scenario. Honestly, in this sort of thing, no matter how well made the experience, I think most people gravitate to the sort of aircraft that featured in the stories you heard and the films you saw as a kid, Americans tend to hear of the daylight raids, the Eight AF, Mephis Belle etc, Brits tend to fancy themselves as some sort of Douglas Bader etc (you see where I'm going). Personally I have no real emotional connection to the B-17 raids, but give me a Mossie, a precision target and the theme from 633 Squadron and I'm set..... :) grasagdvdw8 -

Flying Penguin replied to Geronimo989's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Personally, is prefer a light/medium bomber. Based on what I flew in IL-2, I'd get more out of something like a HE-111 or a Ju-88 because of their versatility. Flying level for a few hours and lining up a single stick of bombs, not really my cup of tea. I appreciate that the B-17 Is iconic and it would float a lot of people's boats, but it leaves me cold compared to the other stretch goal aircraft. I don't envy Ilya, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. -
 Given that was posted 4 minutes after Wags' original post, I hadn't had chance to scour my atlas for a likely location.... ;)

Heaven is seeing your 8 month old son's face light up when he realises the connection between the stick he has been trying to bite and the plane on screen...

If you have the original LOMAC, there was no activation. Therefore if it is installed, it should work. First question, do you currently have LOMAC or another FC product installed right now? Edit: cichlidfan's instructions are the full set of steps.

what to expect from Su-27 module?
Flying Penguin replied to nap0leonic's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
I'm not going to buy the F35. Just because there is no data doesn't stop someone with the talent and interest making a flying stealth unicorn that shoots rainbow lasers from it's eyes. You want an SU35 based on best guess and conjecture, there's nothing stopping you either making it yourself or persuading a similarly minded developer to take it on. I'm not going to be buying it though, and that was your question. -
Well in case anyone isn't following the DCS WWii threads, a snippet on new maps. May the guessing games begin!

Flying Penguin replied to nap0leonic's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Like TaliG, little to zero. Partly because, as a mostly offline player, I'm not going to pay just for some mp balance and if I need my Flanker vs Eagle fix the 27S will do me just fine, and partly because I'm not convinced enough data is available to get it right, even to FC3 standards, which to me means simplified systems, not guesswork. Now if it ever became possible to do a full fat 35 to proper DCS standards, that's a whole different wallet threatening kettle of fish
