  1. I totally agree, no one sim does it all, need multiple ones for when you wanna do different things
  2. So the issue i have is with the IR missiles... i'll use the 13M1 as an example... yes, the rockets may propel them 15km... but only if you dumb fire them, and as far as i've been able to tell, even if you get a direct shot at someone from 10km away, with the IR seeker dead on the hottest part of the enemy plane, it doesn't seem to start tracking when its seeker gets in range... so to say it has a 15km range, while technically true, is more like 4km...
  3. the mig-21 has anti-lock brakes..... pretty sure you can't over break... either way, i usually hold the brakes down till i get to around 250(ish) then i hold them down as much as i can after that, but the plane starts to rock back and forth and it's possible to break the gear itself and/or pop a tire because of the rocking... letting off the brakes usually stops the rocking from getting worse till you get below 100
  4. i'd RMA it or return it and get another, sounds like you got a dud... i haven't had any issues with mine at all, other than like i said, stick doesn't have adjustable palm rest.
  5. well it's roughly the same quality as the x-52, the dual-throttle friction adjust is amazing on the x-55, it makes the x-52s look like it was duct taped on as an afterthought, not only does it have more buttons, but its got more rotaries, and the rotaries are also push-buttons, it has two pinky triggers on the stick to make up for the lack of the two stage trigger but other than that, it's roughly the same quality as the x-52 pro. basically i like to think of it as an x-52 pro with dual throttle and more rotaries and buttons... = far superior to the x-52 pro
  6. ground does lock you, just not always. Sometimes it'll just set your rwr off a couple times, and then a few seconds later you're in pieces. Other times, you'll get locked by something on the ground, and not be able to get the lock off till you fly behind a mountain... i think it might depend on the radar system the specific ground unit uses.
  7. yeah i was practicing with the R-13M1 offline last night, and it scared the crap outta me the first time i launched one and it hit, much bigger explosion, it does have a much better tracking system, compared to the r-3s... http://weaponsystems.net/weapon.php?weapon=HH07+-+AA-2+Atoll So I practiced some more with the R-13M1s, and yes, their far better than R-3S's, i hit at about 4km away with them... the R-55 missile, actually pretty ok, acted like the flares weren't even there, hit dead on from 6KM (offline testing), better than the R-13M1 imo
  8. I upgraded to the X-55 from the X-52 pro, the X-55 is far superior, only issue i have is the hand rest on the stick isn't adjustable.
  9. ah i see, yeah, you can't be prepared for every situation... but i can't think of any other way than ambush and surprise to really effectively, not just by pure random luck, get fighter kills with the mig-21... I'm hoping someone else figures something out. key word: fighter.
  10. yeah, their bigger.
  11. I've Tried R-55's their IR missiles, make HUGE explosions, but have a short range. it's the RS-2US that are also radar guided, and their not as fast, shorter range and don't turn as good as the R-3Rs, but i got my first missile kill in the mig-21 online with a couple of the RS-2US's... before i learned of the r-3r
  12. that's why, in the mig-21, you stay on the deck, hide yourself with hills, so if someone tries to avoid your radar lock by diving, the ground is in the way... and even using r-3rs you need a visual on the target, cause he can just turn out of your lock even on the deck, you get the lock, then put the target on the + on the radar, then look at the top x on the gunsight, should be right there... you don't absolultly have to put him right directly on your nose, can get used to wherever he is, but simplest. from my point of view, modern fighter pilots are mostly lazy and go for long-range attacks, or rely too much on the sensors and forget that just because someone's turned off their radar or hid behind a hill doesn't mean they've just disappeared entirely... and never expect someone to magically pop up 10km away in-front and underneath them... that surprise quite often gives more than enough time to smoke them with a couple r-3rs all my posts in this whole thread, from my first post to here, are about ambush tactics... including everything i've said in this post. plus some other stuff.... the only way you'd be above someone or co-alt with them is if you weren't ambushing them. if they've matched you(you meet on a peak for example), and their missiles have a longer range than you, and their prepared for you, then you die... if you don't escape... definition for ambush: a surprise attack by lying in wait in a concealed position
  13. that's freakin' awesome man, good job :D 4 kill sortie next?
  14. your video set to private, can't watch it here.
  15. You have to take the actual stick apart(not the base) , disconnect the wires from the PCB inside the stick, then pull it all through the wires and such... i don't have pictures or a step-by-step guide....
  16. I tried to use the angler fish as a metaphor, it uses roughly the same tactics... just it's prey are smaller than it usually... whack-a-mole (if he doesn't kill you first) is a much better metaphor for sure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambush_predator
  17. it's like those whack-a-mole games, except, you play as the mole... the thing is... instead of letting yourself get whacked, as soon as the hammer comes down, you blast it to bits...
  18. yep, because you did that you saved his ass, but imagine if he wasn't there, it'd been you instead of him needing saving :P
  19. you've almost got it except what you needed to do was get a mountain between you and him, instead, even though he was behind you, you went for the hill infront of you. That's why he had a constant radar lock on you right up untill that friendly passed between you and him and he switched targets. remember you need to turn into him, so that the hill you end up hiding behind blocks him from you. but i think lots of people are reading this, just not replying. not too many people go out and try to get kills with this thing... online anyway... on-wards and up-wards, next goal: 2-kill sortie.
  20. the final version.... probably... but computers won't be fast enough for many years (5+), if the dk2 is any indication. expect to see a lot of extremely light weight, simple things... compared to DCS... for the foreseeable future... I personally don't get motion sickness in DCS, I do in some games. The reasons why people get motion sickness from VR are varied and differ from person to person, while i might not get sick in DCS, someone else might, and in other games, while i get sick playing them, that same someone else might not. anyway, this is kinda not on the same topic as killing modern fighters with the mig-21...
  21. I have an i7 2600k@4.6GHz, 8gb g.skill ram, and a GTX780 I suggest you turn HDR off, all it does is make everything either too blue, or too bright, and makes your youtube movies look hazy, also uses gpu power just to make you feel like your in constant foggy hazy brightness you can't ID planes with the rift, but it's clear enough to use the radar and iff them, but you'd really need a pair of gtx980s to get decent framerates with it, though if you don't mind getting lows of 20 fps a gtx780 will do, also you need to modify some files to make the text in game green (since green is the highest resolution subpixel on the dk2) and make the fonts bigger. not worth it to buy a rift just for DCS, not with DCS as the main reason for buying one. if you want to get a rift to have the whole DK2 experience then it's cool, but not for dcs.
  22. yeah i was thinking about investing in a couple of those cheap saitek switchboards, like this one the switches wouldn't be in even close to the same places as they are in the real pit, so not really any better than hotas... how the heck do they use the radar and fly at the same time with it on the right side like that? all mig-21 pilots required to be ambidextrous?
  23. the thing is, if your sitting in a cockpit, you're not grabbing a mouse, then dragging it over to the switch, then trying not to move your head so you can actually click as many times as you have to to get to the nob position you want. in real life, you reach up, turn the nob, thats it. HOTAS is far closer to real life than mouse click, both in the time it takes, and physical movement required.
  24. why did you need to grab your mouse?
