yeah I was there when they were doing that, but was like... no thanks... yeah it looks cool having a bunch of mig-21s in close formation, but really, to avoid giving noobraam/spamraam/aim120noobs multi-kills (not gonna say F-15 pilots, cause once the missiles off the pylon the aim-120 is its own self-contained aircraft), you need to fly more like how santi and I flew it doesn't look as pretty, but it means if anyone dies, there might be enough time for the others to escape and find the enemy. but not trying to say F-15 pilots always use aim-120s, they don't.

.lua doesn't need any special external program, just go into dcs, click load profile, click the .lua file, and you're done, no special drivers, no special software, just a couple clicks on a fresh install of windows with a fresh install of dcs, and you're done.

well its not the first time i've killed 3, few times before as well, i've killed 4 once too, with R-3Rs.... but I didn't record them, and I have too many tracks to go through to find them again, but I'm sure i can do it again, will record next time.

And I figured since this one is a lot shorter, I'd post it as well

Alright, here's another for you Sortie from first radar contact to the last kill, on the 104th server, hapened to be packed 51/51 slots full, target rich environment :D First kill with an R-13M1, 2nd kill (way overkill) with both my R-3Rs, and 3rd with my last R-13M1, I know the first and last kills are SU-27's but I'm not sure what the second was, as it explodes mid-air... it's in 1080p but might still be processing if you only get 480p

Fixed^^ This is the profile I currently use, works great for air2air need to make some changes for a2g, mostly just weapons selection and gun sight stuff... mig21x55.lua

here's the same sortie from my plane Santi and I pared up for a while, short video of that, got a couple kills too, one with R-3Rs, one with R-60Ms so Santi and I split up because we ran into 4+ F-15s. I ran away to live, still managed two kills, but after that dive at the end I pulled too many G's and lost my last two missiles and had to rtb... Santi managed his first online kill, Gratz to him!, but he ran into the F-15s and got shot down in the process... He got his first kill at exactly the same time as the first kill I get in this video and yeah if you wanna fly, just lemme know your steam name so I know its you and not some random guy, my nick is hadwell in steam too... or if you see me in-game...

you want to land on the rear wheels with enough lift left to hold the nose up so you can gently bring the nose down, so that the front wheel touches AFTER the rear wheels have already touched don't just let the nose wheel drop, pull back on the stick and control the rate, so that it gently touches

no, but pretty much the only plane i fly in DCS is the mig-21, and i meant specifically the leatherneck mig-21, in practice... i have no idea how they work in real life.
-
I don't really care what it says in the manual, in practice, the top two lights only turn on with R-55s and RS-2US (seem to be the same missile, just different trackers), and they just tell you you have the missile selected, it's not launch auth and at least I've never seen the bottom light up. any other missile, if you see the pipper wobbling around following the target, that's launch auth enough, assuming you've iff'd the real launch auth lights are the two big red lights on the left side of the radar screen, and require you get a radar lock... but totally useless since you can usually launch long before they light up.

Here's the profile for that I also suggest you watch to see what switches you'll still need to turn on even with auto start.
-
The mig-21 works great against su-27s and f-15s, only the dreaded aim-120 NOOBRAAM is a real threat.

guess i'll have to make a youtube video of it...

try holding your nose streight up, hanging on the propeller as long as you can, with auto prop pitch on, and 1.42ATA, no throttling back... with auto rads, the engine will overheat right away and die, but if you open the rads fully...
-
i believe the DB605 was rated at 1.42ATA, 2800RPM, but the original 605s(ones used in the G6s for example) had problems so they limited the max manifold pressure to 1.3 and MW50 was prohibited... and the manifold pressure gauge is right near the rpm gauge, right beside the propeller pitch gauge, and their all right beside the flare gun... you can basically ignore the supercharger gauge since the only way your supercharger would ever get damaged or not be working properly is if you get shot at and probly need to rtb or bail anyway, it's all automatic, and its not as if when you rtb, your crew chief is gonna have to fix it, you're gonna get a new, never been flown before, streight from the factory plane next time you spawn anyway... all that said, i usually stick around 2650rpm, 1.42ata, and when im in combat i switch the radator to fully open from automatic, unless im running, then i leave it on auto... more important than ata or rpm settings is that the automatic radator doesn't open the radiators fully when you're doing stall manuvers, and the engine will just die unless you open the rads fully yourself.

So i was bored and decided to do an all-out X-55 key config thing, if anyone wants this profile let me know if anyone has some advice or can figure a way to make a key config that makes flying the mig-21 any easier than this, would be nice :D

[NO BUG AND WILL NOT CHANGE] MiG-29 HUD shows up on MFD
Hadwell replied to otester's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
the inner cone shows the effective range of the missile, nothing to do with the position or direction of travel of either plane... basically, if the enemy plane is within that cone, and you get a missile lock, as long as the plane stays within that cone, the missile probably won't miss... as an example... take some R-73s and some R-77s and switch between them, you'll see... -

[NO BUG AND WILL NOT CHANGE] MiG-29 HUD shows up on MFD
Hadwell replied to otester's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
nope the MFD only shows the HUD, radar, or airfields... HSI seems to work sometimes, but not others... and i think it just shows distance to the next waypoint... it's two analog wheel gauges right above the radio compass... no idea about anything else about it... i never use it cause of the MFD... when you're in nav mode press 1 again, and it sets it to waypoint mode. the mig-29 is kinda a... legacy plane... a reminder of the past... i don't think any bugs will be fixed in it... but it would be nice... also a 6dof pit would be wicked... -

the inner cone is your missile range, the outer cone is your radar range.
