What are the differences between the BF109, Dora, Pony?
Hadwell replied to stray cat's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
yeah the P-47 is my favorite ww2 plane, i think it's awesome to be able to fly a plane by its turbocharger, one of the most unique planes in ww2, in regards to engine operation. -
nah its still the same basic concept, it might be a bit more manuverable, but it's still nothing more than a flying engine with some pylons attached to its sides.... the modern electronics and missiles would make it so getting into those kinds of situations where you might have to fight are more rare though...

all planes are energy fighters, but in this case energy fighter refers to planes that suck when hanging on their propeller. the P-51 and 190 suck at hanging on their propeller when compared to a 109 or spit. and hanging on the propeller means... if the engine suddenly quits, the plane stalls rather than glides. -

the P-47 had one huge flaw... it had good performance at its operating altitude of.... 35,000 feet... but down low, where it's massive turbocharger was nothing more than dead weight... well... no need to state the obvious from there... the corsair used the same engine, but didn't have that problem, because it didn't have the turbo, on the flip side, the corsair had a really crappy altitude ceiling basically the 109 is a turn fighter that uses its engine as its main source of energy... the 190 and P51 are energy fighters, and use altitude, momentum, and mass to throw the weight of the plain around, rather than relying on the engine to haul them -
F-15 that's already on a mig-21 that's low and slow of coarse the mig-21 has no escape, but there's no such thing as pilots with equal skill, and luck, the cause-and-effect chain from some dude farting in china in 1965, etc... could make all the difference but that's cause the mig-21 isn't a fighter.... it's designed to catch big assed bombers super quickly(interceptor)... hence the ambush tactics and all the streight-line zoom climbs..

the graphics settings adjust the GPU load. if you get the same framerate regardless of settings, its because your single-core CPU performance isn't good enough. if you have a program designed to run using 16 threads, and you have a CPU that has 16 1GHz cores, then that CPU is faster than a 4GHZ 1-core CPU. if you have a program designed to run using 1 thread (like DCS), then that 4GHz 1-core is far better. and then you need to take into account that a 4GHz AMD CPU, or a 4GHz core2 are far slower than a 4GHz I7 CPU...in single-threaded performance.

I have a half decent, all be it starting to age machine, and yeah, the mig-21 is maybe on average 20% more demanding than say... the a-10c... on my machine. its not THAT bad unless you're running a machine far worse than mine... take a look a my sig for specs (is almost 4 years old now)... or if you're running a machine as old or older than mine... what the hell do you really have to complain about other than a crappy computer? and yeah, ATI/AMD+DCS = no, plain and simple... no...

F-104 would be amazeballs, perfect counter to the mig-21. kinda biased though since it's also my favourite plane. I have always liked the idea of a plane designed from the ground up to do one thing well; go fast.

yeah, you gotta love flying I think... just flying... to really like flight sims... if all you want is big explosions and instant gratification.... well... it should be gratifying enough just flying, and big explosions should be a reward for good flying.
-
might be for rear, but it seems to go off if even the slightest like radar signal thats bounced off 3 mountains, 2 A-10s and a seagull before it hits the p-51....

re-post of this

so with the gunsight, you set the pipper to the wingspan of your target, i just set it to 15m, because the su-27 and su-33 wingspan is 15m, the f-15s is 13m, then when the targets wings touch the inside edges of the pipper, pull the trigger. same way the gunsight in the p-51 and fw-190 work

the cable between the stick and the throttle is loose... the worst "feature" ever... being daisy chained to the throttle... if it ever goes off calibration like that, just unplug the stick from the throttle and plug it back in while its centered.
-
the su-27 can take R-73, mig-29 can take 6 R-60M
-
yeah, i think everyone who flies the F-15 should go play IL2 battle of stalingrad or cliffs of dover for a few months and find out how terrible they actually are at combat modern fighters, and i use the word fighters loosely, are designed to let the missile do all the fighting for them... the f-15 might be capable of fighting, but it rarely ever does when it can just lob missiles that automatically iff, lock, and track their target... that doesn't mean i don't have fun flying FC3 planes, i fly them a lot, but when i do, i take the worst missiles they can carry. much more rewarding that way.
-
only in the same way F-15 pilots rely on AIM-120s, and su-27 pilots rely on datalink Stop using the aim-120, or R-27 and only use aim-7/9's and R-73/60M then it makes using the mig-21 any other way than we do less necessary

I most certainly am not acting like the 51 is better, but those later model 109s suffer from super high wing loading so their engine thrust had to compensate for the lack of lift from all the extra weight added the P-51 will do a streight up zoom climb far longer than a 109.... and i think the reason people keep ripping wings off is because at high speeds, the elevator locks up, and in real life the pilot just wouldn't be strong enough to pull back, but here, that's not a problem.
-
yep, had some guy whine at me yesterday about using that tactic, lol saying it was exploiting, that people never fly that low in real life... i was just like OK mr. aim-120 spammer... whatever you say... obviously he just hates having to look for and actually fight his enemy... thanks for the research, useful info.

but the P-51 doesn't turn that well, you'll lose too much energy, when you can just climb back up to safety and bounce him again... if you have a buddy with you that can keep you safe then sure, but otherwise, don't engage, bounce and away, boom and zoom, p-51 is one of the best planes in the world at it. http://navyflightmanuals.tpub.com/P-1222/index.htm good one too the goal is to always have an exit strategy, that's what I'm trying to explain how to do... for the P-51's its to get a quick pass on the enemy so the enemy doesn't have much time to react before their out of range for the 109s its to try to get the enemy to lose that speed and energy, or get their energy up to equal levels somehow, so they can turn in behind them. I wish i still had my old IL2FB tracks... too many years flying the 109 lol...
-
well at least it's an interesting experiment... what happens when 3 different developers make their own versions of the same missile?
-
lol did you put a B-17 rudder on your 109? hahaha
-
no the P-51 can't climb better than the 109 if their engines are what's pulling them up, the 109 has a better thrust-weight ratio if a P51 and a 109 are going 700kph, and they go streight up at full power, the 109 will stall long before the 51, you need to use the MASS of the p-51, it's weight, not just its engine power, also the wings on the P-51 allow for higher speeds with less drag than the older design of the 109 for the 109 pilot, i suggest learning how to fly low and close to the ground, learning to bait p-51s into turn fights, and learning to conserve energy for fast 90 degree turns, you'll need to get good at them, P-51s have a tough time hitting anything when the target their bouncing keeps veering too far in one direction to adjust without snapping off a wing... If you get bounced, your goal is to equalize your energy levels, with equal energy levels (hes co-alt at the same speed as you) you have better acceleration and maneuverability in the 109, as long as he's got more alititude and is faster than you, you're his prey (assuming he doesn't fly right in front of your guns). P-51 pilots, i suggest getting really good at luftberys, immelmans, vertical split S's, hammerheads, Chandelle, and yes i know one is a tactic and the rest are maneuvers. but if you let a 109 too far above you and give him enough energy, he will eat you alive. if you fly the 51 properly then any turn you make more than 30 degrees or so should be an immelman turn, instead of bleeding your airspeed off with a flat turn, convert all that energy into altitude first, then make the turn. to sum it up: P-51 = vertical flier, BF-109 = horizontal flier keep in mind, this is all my experience, just advice.

Yeah the 109 is slow as hell, the problem, as I've said numerous times, is that people don't use the p51s strengths, instead they try to do what the 109 does, its not simon says, you don't copy the person your fighting.. The p51 is faster, holds its energy 100x better, dives better, and has more elevator authority at higher speeds, use those advantages and stop whining about not being able to fight a 109 Never fight a 109, use the 51s advantages to avoid fighting and kill 109s only using those same advantages. Another good strategy is just to let him chase you till his tiny little gas tank runs dry, you'll still have more than enough fuel to keep flying for a while after before you need to rtb

Since you're Using a titan black you might get a few more fps from a 780ti or 980, but in general with the top end nvidia cards in dcs specifically, its hugely CPU bottlenecked, since its terribly single threaded. Suggest you wait for a better card than the 980 or edge, whatever comes first.

Yeah its just how I think... You see, my mig21 don't like people laughin', it gets the crazy idea you're laughing at it....
