It is what it is. Be happy it's not MSFS with pretty pictures only. My only concern, and not really a gripe so much as a strong wish, GOOD flight dynamics so I can get GOOD aerobatics out of the Yak. When I first got the Christen Eagle, it performed as it should and a Lomcevak could be easily performed (if you knew how). Now, you cannot. The ONLY reason I have piston aircraft is for the flight dynamics that is better to real life than MSFS which.... edited. Three years ago:

Leave a comment on your opinion of the vid. Thanks.

Gawd, I would never be able to trim for that. I even tried Baro autopilot. I am just like you, Gripes: just fight the dynamics until plugged in, then relax a bit until the dam thing banks for a turn without calling it.

Well, that's who is telling me to hold position. Also, last night, some other pilots were getting the same call.

How to enable STD HDG function when restarting F18?
=Mac= replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
On the carrier, where does the Hornet get it's STD HDG? Is it uploaded from somewhere? If so, where? How to update after returning to the boat? -
What is it with the SC and Hornets? Not always, but often, after I've got a green jet and I try to taxi anywhere, ATC incessantly calls out, "204: Hold position." Three of the catapults are empty. Any idea why this is and what I can do about it (other than waiting until ATC shuts up about it)?
-
There are a lot of people here that would disagree with you. I successfully refuel left or right all the time. Nevertheless, I notice the same difference that everyone else is reporting.
-
I don't have a problem with the dihedral. I saw it when I first went from the KC-130 to the KC-135MPRS. I expected the possible disorientation. What I focus on is the top of my HUD as it aligns with the refueling pod(?). However, the dihedral is not what gives me a problem. As I approach, the need to bank (away from the tanker's fuselage) gets stronger. Perhaps that's as it should be. I contend that it is a bit too strong. I should like to state, though, that my problem is that, as soon as I plug in, that need to bank disappears. The physics of needing-then-not-needing is thus incorrect. For whatever reason, the need to bank on the right is about the same but the intensity during approach is not linear but, I would guess, logarithmic. This increase in difficulty is what people are complaining about: left versus right.
-
So how do you account for the differences between left drogue difficult plug-ins and right drogue nighmarish plugins? The only difference SHOULD be just the angle of bank to correct for the air flows.
-
When we AAR on the MPRS with Hornets, most everyone wants to refuel on the left drogue because the right drogue is rather difficult compared to the left. This shows that the modelling isn't quite right. Most real-life AAR with small fighters (F/A-18s and F-16s) show a smooth and steady approach to a drogue. This is not possible in DCS at the moment. For me, when I approach on the left, I have to bank left way too much just to keep the approach manageable. This effect gets worse as I approach closer to the drogue. Once I plug in, the effect becomes considerably less. When I approach on the right drogue, it's almost like trying to balance a basketball on your finger (without the gyroscopic spin). To me, it's ridiculous.

Hornet hold position even though 3 cats available

Thanks for the help. I'm just reporting the possible bug. -
Hornet hold position even though 3 cats available
=Mac= replied to =Mac='s topic in Bugs and Problems
It was me (and a couple other MP Hornets) that were waiting to taxi to a cat. I spawned on the Six Pack yet other's spawned elsewhere. Some Hornets were able to get on a Cat. We had no AI on deck other than statics. We did have a few MP Tomcats that, typically, launched first. For me, once all A/C except for my Wingie had launched, I was permitted to taxi to Cat I while Wingie lined up on Cat 3. See the first couple minutes of my YT vid: -
I suspect it has to do with the Tomcats on deck.

Where is Hoss from? And please don't say the Ponderosa.

As the saying goes, "Fill your boots!" The Hornet is an awesome beast. You're gonna love it! The pic is from a couple nights ago.

F-18C HORNET AVIONICS GUIDE, (HAG), CHANGE 3 for DCS OB 2.7.6.X

randall dot macdonald at protonmail dot com I don't have paypal. I'll have a couple (Canadian) Loonies available. I wish to share a couple with you. Cheers and thank you. -
1967, Rolling Thunder, Hanoi steel plant attack. While not a pod, just consider the magnification details.

Attached is two photos from just my cellphone looking out my balcony at the CN Tower in Toronto, 10 nmi distant. Of course, this is 2018 technology... But I remember back when Nikon put out a pretty good 35mm film camera in the early 1980's that could match my cellphone today in image magnification quality. Just wondering how realistic these DCS pods are.

I would imagine you guys have careers to take precedence but I am retired so my time constraints are non-existent. I'll fly anytime, day or night. However, I would also imagine that you guys would like to fly Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday nights. So, let me know when. I can run my gaming rig as a server as I fly it. if needed. So far as I know, my server is visible when I run it. You guys work it out among yourselves and I'll join in the fun whenever. I'll check this thread later tonight. Cheers

I am not with a squadron although I have been with several in the past 10 years. Today, I fly solo like you have. I fly the Hornet and Huey although I do have all the other modules. I cut my teeth on the F-15 when it first came out and then moved to the (early) A-10C. Although I do have it, I've never flown the A-10C II but would like to. If you wish, I'll fly with you and, perhaps, you can teach me what you know and I can share what little I know. We can set up a day(s) and time to meet each other online. I live near Toronto. Let me know. randall dot macdonald at protonmail dot com

I thought this was a game! What the heck is this doing duplicating real life????? (5 years ago, I ran my sailboat aground, too. So, why not my SuperCarrier?) Thanks, Flappie.
-
I created a simple mission (with WWII assets) and a carrier. The mission entry for the carrier set the speed at 25 knots. Running the mission, the carrier was dead in the water. Not sure why or how to fix it. Mission and track attached Practice.miz Frozen boats.trk

I dl'd his utility. Thanks both of you. (I don't have steam.) I'll run Skatezilla's Gui
-
Thanks. I'll check it out. But I do have the updater which runs well. But I think something is wrong with the SuperCarrier because I created a mission and set it's speed to 25 kts but it never moves. I suspected my DCS is corrupt so I wanted to do a repair. There isn't one on my install anywhere.
