  1. If you like to fly military a/c, then there is no other place on earth better than DCS. I've been flying with ED since... 2004(?) and still can't get enough of it!
  2. Thanks, Flappie. I'm new to windows 10 so I THOUGHT it was turned off. I cannot tell you how much I hate windows 10. I've had it installed before several times and each time, I hated it more and wiped it off the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 again. DCS installs very well on Windows 7 since I kill off most of MS bloatware. Unfortunately, I need windows 10 to get Reverb G2 when (if it ever) comes out. :) I'll try adding the exception to defender. If that doesn't work, I'm going to buy several sticks of (redacted for safety) and blow the hell out of all my computers and take up knitting as a hobby. (Joking, of course.)
  3. Got new machine. Win 10. No anti-virus, no defender, nothing but a clean install of win 10 pro. Not sure why I get an access violation when trying to download Open beta. Attached the log but can't attach the dump. autoupdate_log.txt
  4. I bought the A-10 years ago and flew it often. In fact, I actually bought the A-10 twice, FC-3 twice, and the Black Shark I bought and updated to BS-2 even though I don't fly that at all either. When the A-10c II comes out, I'll pay what I am asked to pay for it. Right now, I'm thoroughly immersed in the FA-18 and the SuperCarrier. But, for the record, if ED wants to sell a module and I have the money, I'll buy it. I have every module that ED has issued except the FW-190 Anton and the I-16. Most I just don't fly. This is my way of supporting ED because I am so in love with what I DO fly: Hornet (with the SC), Huey, P-51, and the Christen Eagle.
  5. Hornet is my bird of choice. I've been studying it since before it could fly DCS. But the F-16 is a beauty, too, and I'd love to do CAS with it. Anyway, my voting favored A2G.
  6. Hi Moa. Remember me? I miss flying with you!
  7. Yeah, Gripes. I think the lighting is just right. Everything is dark in real life! Great feeling of a night landing. Thanks. Makes me want to skip my chores and go fly some night approaches.
  8. I don't care HOW they make their money so long as they make ends meet and maybe a little bit more. I want them to keep on keeping on. As for subscription, not only no, but hell no. Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love DCS. I have everything except campaigns. But the moment I have to start paying a monthly fee, I take my computer and throw the entire thing into the trash. I will fly no more. If ED wants to charge more for something, I will sell 20 gallons of my blood to get it. But ask me to spend a dollar a month for anything and I walk away.
  9. I would fly any and all (Western) cargo aircraft (English reading cockpit) anywhere in DCS. Any time. For any reason. Fixed wing or rotary ones. Just get me to the tarmac where one sits waiting for me!
  10. You also need to watch out for the tanker's slipstream. But that usually pulls you hard into a severe right roll.
  11. No because (1) DCS is not a game, (2) if you can't AAR, then cheat by making it unlimited fuel, (3) no because it pushes the novice player to LEARN difficult things.
  12. I am always willing to learn something, especially about flying. Especially, especially about flying helo's. So reading CHPL, then cromhunt had me studying every word they wrote. Then I read Hammer 1-1 and fell out of my chair. Still laughing, I read what gabuzomeu wrote and laughed again. Thanks for the kick in the ass, cromhunt! I so love you guys!
  13. I DON'T own the A-8 because I have the D-9. (Not sure why there are two.) I don't own the I-16. Not sure what it is. I have the first A-10C campaign but don't use it so campaigns are just not for me. Otherwise, I'm like schurem; I already own everything (except the above). I seriously like the Supercarrier. I've trained with the Hornet since it came out. I flew the Tomcat a couple times. I fly the Huey a lot. The Mustang is wonderful so I fly that a lot, too. I've got the Normandy and Channel maps. Why not connect the two? I didn't mind paying twice, but I really want to fly back and forth between them both. I got the A-4 Skyhawk (free!) and just cannot believe the roll rate it has. But, I'm told it's real. Okay, everything that I have, I love. But the Hornet takes much of my time.
  14. The correct observation area is on the LEFT wing. Heads down, get your drink, spit out the straw, check right, slide back, slide over to the RIGHT wing. Wait for Dash two or say goodbye.
  15. Sorry, D0rmicum, I did get that warning when I posted it. I wanted to post on Vimeo but I only have access to 500 MB per week and this is a lot over that. If you could suggest another site to upload to or... perhaps use a VPN that covers your IP address... sure would be great. Thanks for trying.
  16. I have a lot of software. Some are old and not updated because the companies (Adobe, Microsoft) have forced subscriptions on everyone. I have CS6 and Windows 7 because I refuse, categorically, to buy into a subscription. I don't have any other computer games with subscriptions or season passes for that exact reason. I seriously doubt ED will ever go to subscription service for DCS. They would lose way too many customers that way... both current ones as well as prospective new ones.
  17. Eagle Goddamics is a company expert in military aviation with little experience (until recently with the new aircraft carrier lines of little boats). So, for those who are interested in preventing marine disasters such as what cthulhu68 has reported, I refer you to the SOLAS regulations. When it comes to constructing near self-sustained floating vessels, there comes a number of regulations to be followed so as to maintain the structural integrity and safety of the vessel while sailing in the ocean waters. The ship should be safe during the entire period of her service along with routine maintenance in place. These regulations which have been framed after careful scrutinization and the lessons learnt from past incidents lay the stepping stone towards safety during the crucial phase of ship construction and in effect during the entire service life. In its 87th session, IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) adopted Goal-Based Standards (GBS) and guidelines (which deal with bulk carriers and oil tankers) that gave the organisation a role to frame rules in accordance to SOLAS requirements. The process consists of an internal and external audit wherein the design and construction rules should correspond to the adopted Goal-Based Standards (GBS). Tier IV- Rules and regulations for ship design and construction outline detailed requirements for the design and construction of ships, conforming to the goal and functional requirements. So... there! :book:
  18. I'm in Canada and had the download freeze, also. I got stopped at 21,007.7. I let it run all night only to wake in the early morning with the same number staring back at me. I really, really didn't want to cancel and try again, although I would have. However, I turned off my router and got DCS servers were offline, please try again. Or some such. Then I turned my router back on again and it pretty much picked up where it had left off and finished the download (different dl rate and amount to download). I am flying the current version off that today. Might... repeat... MIGHT work for you.
  19. My ISP gives me a consistent 20 MB/s (megaBYTES per second). After 5 hours of downloading, I have stopped at 21,007.7 MB of 23,945.7 MB with nothing but DCS server polling. I'll give it about 5 more hours and if it is still stuck on 21,007.7 then I'll have to cancel and re-download. From what I can tell, torrenting has been curtailed by ED now. So, now I cannot download an update. Hopefully, it's just the ED server that is borked and everything will re-commence in the morning once they reboot it. I hope, hope, hope.
  20. Downloading at 200 KBps. My internet service is consistent at well over a thousand times that. Torrents are no longer available?
  21. Well, for me, I just want a pitching deck when I trying my skills at trapping. How that comes about is irrelevant to me as long as it's realistic as can be cheaply (and easily) obtained. I remember one day several years ago(?) making an approach to the Stennis in a P-51 hovering over the deck. Not realistic but funny to see.
  22. I have sailed a 26 foot sloop on Lake Ontario for the past 15 years. The fetch from Niagara-On-The-Lake to Toronto is about 30 or so miles. With determined winds of about 20 kts from the south, we can see open water waves going over 3 meters occasionally. For the record, too, I would point out the famous SS Edmund Fitzgerald, an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29. When launched on June 7, 1958, she was the largest ship on North America's Great Lakes, and she remains the largest to have sunk there. Type: Lake freighter Tonnage: 13,632 GRT 8,713 NRT (from 1969: 8,686 NRT) 26,000 DWT Length: 729 ft (222 m) overall 711 ft (217 m) between perpendiculars En route to a steel mill near Detroit, Edmund Fitzgerald joined a second freighter, SS Arthur M. Anderson. On that November day, the two ships were caught in a severe storm on Lake Superior, with near hurricane-force winds and waves up to 35 feet (11 m) high. Shortly after 7:10 p.m., Edmund Fitzgerald suddenly sank in Canadian (Ontario) waters 530 feet (88 fathoms; 160 m) deep, about 17 miles (15 nautical miles; 27 kilometers) from Whitefish Bay near the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario—a distance Edmund Fitzgerald could have covered in just over an hour at her top speed. Now, for Lake Superior: Max. length 350 mi (560 km) Max. width 160 mi (260 km) Surface area 31,700 sq mi (82,000 km2) Average depth 483 ft (147 m) Max. depth 1,333 ft (406 m) While I was aboard the Forrestal (CV-59) along the coastal waters of Virginia, we encountered the edge of a heavy storm. She headed into the wind for safety yet, I saw with my own beady little eyes the occasional wave blowing over the bow as we plunged into them. For the record, the Forrestal's freeboard is about 100 feet.
  23. I'm not EVEN going there with that.:P
  24. Okay. This is clear as mud. From Wag's post, as I understand it, turn off datalink when interested in the boat. No matter what the channel is used. Tacans for A2A 37 --> 63 X and Y Tacans for A2G 30 --> 46 X 64 --> 99 X 30 --> 63 Y Is this right? I'm so confusicated.:huh:
