I just recently got a set of TPRs after having Saitek Combat Pedals for a long time. Very impressed by them, glad I'm in the position right now to spend that much on them. But I feel most people would be better served by cheaper pedals. I agree that the more modern jets are not the most rudder pedal dependant planes, but I could also make an argument that the good old Cessna 172 isn't either (except for the right one, you need more of that  ). I'm a big believer in heels on the floor. Partly it's that I'm used to it. I think though it gives better feel and control than most feet on the pedal setups. Interestingly, I'm catching up on old Fighter Pilot Podcast Episodes and today listened to the A-10 episode, #44, where someone asked this question to them and they mentioned the pirouette, but also the side slip to scrub off speed on a rendezvous with too much closure when the brakes were already out. I had a "why didn't I think of that" moment because I love using slips in light piston singles to get down from downwind to final but slowing down normally isn't an issue for me.

VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support

I saw that over at Discord, glad he got you working. Let us know how you feel about the dual H640P. I considered getting a second on but decided it wasn't worth the bulk of the second one on my lap with how easy it is to control both sides with how VRK switches sides easily. Couple of H640P tips, the extra pen nibs are in the bottom of the pen holder. I have 6 cabinet door bumpers as tactile nubs for the drawing area corners and the bottom of the kneeboard drawing controls area. -
Yep, that was it, sorry! The NS430 was a random "lets try this with the free for all." I was looking in the manual and then searching the main thread for FC3 or F-15, not the online FAQ.

My FC3 aircraft suddenly have to use AUX and the chatter stops working. So far my other multi-radio aircraft work fine. Previously I thought they could basically use any TX when set to NORM. But only VHF FM and AUX show up but VHF FM doesn't work (lights up on PTT tab but no squelch break). The arrows on the PTT tab doesn't allow me to move the Aux to a different TX so it stays on the default TX6. Also chatter stops playing in cockpit, which definitely worked before and the chatter shortcut key/voice command won't restart it. I tried a reinstall of both Voice Attack and Vaicom, still the same. It's the chatter not working in FC3 planes all the sudden that is the biggest deal since I really like it, the TX6 has been reassigned to a different PTT.

VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support

While it doesn't have touch support, the H640P has 6 mappable buttons on the tablet and 2 more on the pen. The tablet buttons for me do the page and tab navigate and the hide the kneeboards. Then the pen is erase and gesture controls. -

Update on my autoload mission brief issue. If your tab isn't coming up, try entering the mission, then quit, and then hit "fly again." -
Just an update in case someone else has the same issue. the VFX grip works fine on on my T-50CM2 base. I think maybe that I got it used and it was on a T-50CM2 base first and profiled on, then me putting it on a Warthog with the VPC programing made the buttons not work. I haven't tempted fate and tried to clear the profile and go back to the Warthog, but a heads up for you Warthog guys. Also if anybody needs a Warthog base for cheap, PM me:lol:

Since then I have noticed I will get a "xxxx BRIEFING" tab intermittently, xxxx being the word I have for autoload tab prefix name. But even the same mission that I first saw it pop up in (and a few others), will on consistently cause the tabe to appear and when it does switching between missions in game will not update the tab, it is still whichever mission was loaded into the tab. I've been trying to replicate what actually makes it appear and can't pin it down yet. My VrkGameGui.lua version line is "VRK - Startup v1.0.3.8" I saw over on discord about your release, focus on that! I posted up here just for more community feedback. No big hurry, everything else seems to be working well for me. Maybe a few more stutters as someone else mentioned, but not a show stopper for me. -

I believe you have to use the older server/client software. I think only the drawing tablets are supported in the current builds because they are easier to setup and have less issues. So far I'm impressed with my H640P at only $40USD. -

I upgraded to .20 last night and have a small issue. I've been playing with it some but haven't been using it much because I was waiting for my H640P to get here. Between ordering it I had to reinstall Windows and then VRK .17ish. Last night after installing .20, I think I got a good not installed warning, I looked at the listed directory and it was still the proper saved games fl\DCS folder, hit install hooks. But even have reboot I'm not getting the mission briefing autoload. I also unchecked this box, restarted VRK and rechecked it. I vaguely remember before that this created the "DCS" tab (or whatever you labeled it next to the autoload box). I'm not getting that tab as well. However I can't remember if I had that tabe before upgrading to .20 last night. I know I had it when I setup before the recent Windows install, but not sure after since K knew the H640P was coming I was waiting to build the kneeboards and such. Anything else I need to do to get the autoload mission briefing to work? Overall though, with my H640P it shows the genius of this program! I'm also trying to get a Leap Motion to try that part out. I'll be sending hopefully the first of multiple donations your way Rider, keep up the great work! -

Suggestions for New Rudder Pedals
Snake122 replied to panton41's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There's no mods out there to make Crosswinds what Virpil has termed post Saitek's "combat" pedals style a.k.a. nearly 100% of real modern Western rudder pedals? I really don't think I can go back to heels on the pedal after 20+ years of real flying and sims. I got pics of my ugly pedals I homemade in the mid-2000s back when heels on the floor pedals were almost non-existent. I know the TPRs are stupid at that price but they seem exactly what I want pedal style. Only ACE-2s are close a second in "combat style" but I doubt they'll be in stock when I get around to buying new pedals to replace my Saitek Combat pedals in hopefully May. -
The Motion Integrated G-Seat

Signed up, let us know when the first one goes out because sometimes my email address doesn't make it through spam filters (having a .org email address for 20 years will do that) -
I agree, while it's been a long time since I sat in one and the only for a few minutes at a time and maybe 30 minutes total in the simulator, they are small. Maybe not A-4 small and not as roomy as the F-15 is supposed to be, but it's a jet you strap on. As remember there is the 30 degree incline that takes you that much further from the instrument panel than other planes. Interesting tip on the IPD, I always avoided playing with it thinking I'd get double vision or less stereoscopic effect. I'll have to play with it now!

Thanks guys, PMed Firecat to get on the list a few hours ago! One last question, how's the battery life?
-
How often does PointCtrl need calibrated? lt's not a long process but if it needs done every time I enter a plane it can add up. Also I end up alt-tabbing out a lot for my other apps like DCS Flight panels and Voice Attack/Vaicom. Will using my regular mouse on these mess up PointCtrl? Definitely recommend Vaicom for the immersion alone, but it's complicated to setup. Follow the guide and most of the issues are taken care of.

VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
Snake122 replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
Do you plan to continue the support of the Leap Motion? I had one when they first came out but sold it and I'm curious to see how far they have came. The DCS Oculus Touch controller support isn't bad, it just can be a pain to figure out where to set them down and pick them back up. -

Ahh, thanks! I see that now in BASE tab. I was searching the quick start guide for "rotation" and it doesn't come up because it's in the graphic, not the text. -

I'm looking at get a Huion to full take advantage of VRK and trying to size them out for what I need. Leaning towards the H640P, but Can you use them in portrait mode? I want to position be it like a true kneeboard on my leg and would like to use the short side towards my knee, which is 90 degrees from normal. Will the make the writing rotated as well on the kneeboard? -
Definitely good work!!! An F-1 4 stock should have some battle scars I think. I agree that it would make a great F-86/Mig-15 stick. I don't own a WarBRD, but just ordered T-50CM2 base off eBay today, so good to hear they are good internally (and not too many complaints about them at the Virpil forums). Worst case I sell it off if, but going all in with Virpil's last chance with me. So we'll see if it is just a base issue. But my main bet is that connection cable is bad, basically the stick mirror of the WarBRD base cable that reported as break. I have peeked inside my VFX. My halves were not glued together, the cable I'm talking about was crimped by one of the boards. As expected, unplugging that cable from the stick makes all the buttons show pressed in Game Controller/VPC joytester, which is the normal condition for a stickless Warthog base. So the VFX is getting some kind of connection, just not enough to make the buttons work or maybe a board is bad, but I see no scorch marks, especially around the chip. I agree there is something different in its construction feel from my older T-50CM. I actually had to reflash my Warthog a couple times when trying to go back to my T-50CM. I think it was grounding out between the metal base and 5 pin connector. I added some electrical tape at the a little past where the shrink wrap ended and it stopped grounding out. So who knows what's going on there. It may be the grounding wire in the Warthog causing all this, I remember when I mounted my base thinking "I got to be careful of that wire, it looks like you could snap it easily."

Yeah, there were pretty weak and like pretty much all of them, you could remove them: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=67680

Point of order, sir! All of the Saitek HOTAS from 2000ish thru X65f had detents and sold in great numbers. Since these were the starter HOTASes, it made us get used to detents: Saitek X36 (I remember moving the throttle, thinking "what are these bumps?!?" with my gameport version) Saitek X45 Saitek X52/X52 Pro Also the pretty rare Suncom had detents. Thanks for the walk down memory lane! FWIW, my Saitek X65F throttle is still my throttle across all military fighter platforms and the stick is my F-16 stick. But overall, I like the realism of a physical lift more. I cutout a board for my Cougar that required me to tilt the throttle to go to AB/IDLE so it acted as a lift. That's hard to do with the X65 base. So while I have my curve set for the AB to come on about at the X65 detent, I'm playing with a button for the AB "lift". Same with idle. But I don't necessarily see not having detents a major downside, especially since DCS makes it a little difficult to adjust for the detent. Lifts are arguably more realistic for a lot of platforms anyway. What about WEP? It's been a long time since I played around with WWII sims and haven't in DCS at all but a quick search shows a lift maybe realistic for WEP in the Spitfire Also if the lift could be locked up to simulate the wire being cut, it would be realistic for the P-51. However, the MW50 wouldn't be tied to a lift/detent though from what I can tell.

We must be looking at the same threads tonight. While it's not the exact same problem I'm seeing since all the buttons aren't working, not just the weapon selector. But the work he did to get the weapons selector working is a little scary yet he made it look decent. More and more that's what I'm starting to think it's connection in the D5 male to whatever internal connection. After reading the similar problems WarBRD base guys have had with their female 5 pin DIN connector wire break due to the wires being to stiff, not enough slack, and chaffing on surfaces here: https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/1233-warbrd-base-buttons-suddenly-dont-work-anymore/&tab=comments#comment-8514 https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/1423-warbrd-base-cable-breaking-issue/&tab=comments#comment-9424 This problem seems to result in the same issue I have. Also there is this thread where this customer had the exact same issue as me with his VFX: https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/topic/1025-can%C2%B4t-get-vfx-f14-buttons-working-only-axis-vpc-warbrd/&tab=comments#comment-7465 Also it seems Virpil is really slow to respond to tickets and service work. I really love the externals of this stick but I'm starting to believe the internals are not so hot, especially the wiring. I feel like I could make a similar cable to what the WarBRD guys are doing but then how long until my weapons selector wire breaks and I have to do some major surgery. The weapons selector switch was the main reason why I wanted this stick anyway! It also turns me off on getting a WarBRD/T50CM2 base even though that was a long term want to buy. I love my early T50 stick, hopefully they used better wiring in it.

Thanks again. That's my experience with the T-50CM grip as well on the Warthog base, it just works. I have a thread on their forums and help ticket as well. Not holding my breath on the ticket from what it sounds like. Trying not to throw money at the problem and buy a WarBRD base and pray that it works with it. I can tell its connecting somehow because of the change from all buttons pressed without any grip on the Warthog to no buttons pressed when connected. It's just that with other grips the buttons then work:rolleyes: A single loose connection doesn't sound like the problem either because then I would think some of the buttons would work then unless there was a way to ground them all out before the connector or something similar.

Thanks! Do you have a VPC base too? If so, did you have the stick profiled on it before? Wondering if the VPC programing need cleared out of the stick to use on a Warthog if the stick itself has some kind of ROM chip in it.
