VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
Snake122 replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
They are drawing tablet design for artists that want to use a pen input for their computer. See this post for mine: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4365978&postcount=427 This app is trying to replicate the real life interface of a kneeboard/EFB. -
VRK - a virtual reality enabled kneeboard with touch and ink support
Snake122 replied to AMVI_Rider's topic in DCS Modding
In DCS, VRK is only controlled by a drawing tablet, like my Huion H640P which I highly recommend at about $40USD. To make it more like standard DCS kneeboards, you could change the position of the kneeboards to where you want and hide the with the "Toogle VR" input binding of tablet/pen buttons in the Input tab of the setting window. Rider was going for the realistic feel of the kneeboards in your lap, which I appreciate. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

Excellent! Yes Sound Module definitely supports that and you will notice a difference on some of the effects. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

Note he has a JetSest already so he should be fimilar with SSA, maybe not the sound module. I would love to hear from someone that has both a JetSeat and a ButtKicker if the extra seat rumble over the JetSeat is worth it. I like the extra zone effects I get with my bass pucks, but not sure if I need the extra seat shake. You did a good job of breaking down the differences and what it take to run a Buttkickets/Bass transducer! Are you going to run a left/right channel since you have more than one shaker? Yep, hung stores, etc. Part of the reason I started using my 3rd Space vest is that I could set one of the stages before the G limit on it so I would physically feel it right before damage would happen. So I guess then the F/A-18 G override button is similar then with no consequences. It just that there are people here that say that it's not that big of deal and the pylons can take it with the impression CatIII (loadouts and switch position) can be ignored. Dee-Jay on post #54 has multiple people saying LAU-88 wasn't used on F-16s with Panther citing similar damage issues and a link to and thread on it. I've always found that Dee-Jay does his homework. Obviously, they were flown in the 70s and 80s with the pictures floating around but I can't find a single SME here and other boards that say it was every actually used operationally. F-16.net has multiple threads on it that I'm wading back through to confirm that my memory is correct. But, while I wouldn't use it, I'm not 100% against it, I personally just want HARMs first. It seems like ED won't ever spank us for using the Jets the wrong way [emoji38] Thanks for the video link and rolling with my cheap shots! Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

I know it doesn't stop you from over G, but the CatIII limiters do make it harder to do than CatI. That's the same concept of what I'm asking about the F-15 switch that she was talking about, in combat they could break the safety wire potentially if needed. Was CatIII ignored in a higher air/SAM threat combat and pilots just would naturally try to limit their Gs and not hitting the limiters to avoid departure? If the answer is mostly yes, then I'm fine with DCS having no consequences, unlike another sim that last time I flew it was quite ruthless in the damage it would cause :D I'll have to look for those videos, all the modern asymmetric combat loads I find pretty interesting, especially compared to 6 AGM-65s [emoji38] sorry couldn't resist, cheap shot I know! Agreed! I want what the unique role of the F-16 actually is in the USAF and that DCS needs, especially when the HTS is available. Anything that can be taken out with a Maverick and in the Viper can be taken out both more safely and operationally realistic with a GBU-12. Yeah, AGM-65s can be fun, but if I'm going to roll around in the mud with that many of them, I might as well take the Warthog, it's natural habitat is there. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

This is mostly were I land. At that point if we are doing unicorn loadouts that damage the jet and ordnance, why not go for the GAU-13? I'm also surprised they people that call for balance want the Viper to have that much power. Again, I know it's disappointing to find out that it isn't a real loadout, that was my exact reaction reading Vipers in the Storm and being "only two Mavericks?!?" Yep, that would be ideal but doubt they would do it. Or, while apparently not as big of difference as that (but not really sure since I don't fly the Hornet much), the no reason to turn the Viper to CatIII ever in DCS. As I understand people debate that in a similar fashion to the G override, but would love to hear from a RL combat Viper pilot if they honestly put the jet in CatIII at a time when there was a true air or SAM threat (Allied Force, 1991/early 2003 Iraq, etc). I get it's help to prevent over G/departures the aircraft in some other lower threat combat situations would mean a CATIII loadout would result in the switch being placed there. But if the RL pilots say the risk was too great to "cheat" and actually kept it in CatIII when appropriate even when selecting CatI could have been used for extra maneuvering against aircraft and SAMs, then there should be some punishment in DCS to not have CatIII selected when the loadout is at that level and limits are exceeded.

1. There are several people that run both. I don't personally because I feel like the JetSeat is already enough for my chair and the Buttkickets is just going to add more shakes that are zoned like the seat does causing the seat to be less informative. But to each his own. 2. Sound module is the same. FWIW, with my JetSeat, I use bass pucks at my heels by my rudder pedals and on my center stick column by my knees which also causes a slight amount of stick shake. Agreed!!! Using pictures is a very poor way to tell what things will look like from the cockpit. From my amateur aerial photography, without proper lenses and other things, pictures look very different from what you see. And one sacrifice has to be made to get the other thing usually. Examples: to get a picture of even part of the visible horizon, I have to use the panoramic lens on my phone but lose lots of the details that are easier to see. On the flip side, anytime I try to take a picture of a far away object with a standard lens, it cannot be pickup without the same detail. Everytime I try to take a picture of the moon or a city skyline 10 miles away, it looks much smaller than what I perceive with standard lenses. And then there is still the stereoscopic issue... I'm not saying DCS is getting it done right, I'm saying there is, just like cameras, too many variables for me to tell. And even then it's going to change from setup to setup. I feel like I have better perception with my Pimax then I did my Rift S, but the Rift S was better than my 32" monitor. But then I might even say my triple monitor setup was better than the Rift S. But it's all me guessing, even though I'm a 3000 hour piston airplane pilot. A fighter pilot that's flown higher altitudes and in more canopied aircraft could say different than me, probably a helicopter pilot would have a different option too, as would probably an airline/military heavy pilot that potentially averages the most time at higher altitudes. I would best trust a high time fighter pilot and then high time military helicopter pilot to comment on this since that's what we are simulating. Maybe I should get more DCS time in the Yak-52/Christensen because that would be most like what I fly to truly give my opinion of just "feels" right or wrong. But even then, that's probably only going to be valid for fellow Pimax 5k+ people. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

I just have a 5k+, but would be happy to do that again since we haven't done that since the new version of PiTool Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

It doesn't, that what I'm saying. All those things I listed are what rated as a high priority for the Viper to be a better SEAD and also DEAD platform in DCS with the 2007 stipulation. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk
-
But the HARM is still the big stick for long range to suppress the sites while the DEAD rolls in. JSOW is another option as well but even the HARM in HAS mode give more SA available than it when it comes to emitters, not to mention the HTS added benefits. True SEAD is not doesn't score that many hits but allows the rest of the package to do their jobs. Even with if you are a hardcore DEAD believer, an ALQ-184 and Semi/Auto CMS modes could come in handy. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk

Agreed! I leave the engine rumble/piston beat disabled for my generic Jet profile, which is then the baseline for all my jet modules to default to. For piston, I leave it on but pretty low and considering takinf it off the seat all together and only have it on the bass pucks now that I'm running 4 pucks. The "Special Options" tab also has a piston engine rumble option. It has a "damp airborne piston engine rumble effect by X". If I understand it right this allows you to have more engine rumble on the ground in pistons then the air if you want to. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

Again, see pages 14-18 in the SSA manual accessible from the help menu in SSA. I believe it doesn't export files until you create a folder but it's been awhile so I may not be remembering that correctly. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -

You basically update the firmware, mount them to the side, plug in the wires and remap qwerty if you have both, qwe being on the left side and rty on the right. But if you need more, try messaging me (or Miles) on the PointCtrl disord. There is a APB subboard there that I posted in that you can use. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk- 3421 replies

1. Are you talking in the F/A-18 or F-14? It's hard because F-14 is kneeling and taking its time and not just a quick event so you need more feedback that it is still in movement. if you are flying only the F/A-18, try editing the .uwv of the tailhook to match the refueling door. Note this is a new feature to SSA. 2. They are the waves moving the ship then. :D Note that it's hard for f4l0 to code because DCS doesn't actually detect aircraft on the carrier as on the ground since they are not at 0 AGL with the deck height, I believe he's mentioned this with this effect. But I sure do like the idea of it being the waves. 3. I would make this event intense at first but still felt while hooked. You'd still somewhat feel the braking effect the wire has. f4l0 has tuned this to the Gs of deceleration so if you are still feeling the effect in the seat you would still be slammed against your harness, but maybe not as hard. Again, this is a new feature to SSA. You can probably edit the .uwv and make it a shorter duration effect but if you go too short it may cycle quickly through it as the Gs are going down. They do make things much more fun and gives good information! -
Jet seat & sim shaker help please
Snake122 replied to markturner1960's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My settings are very different, which doesn't surprise me. I'll try to post them later when I get back to my sim computer. You only need a second sound card to run SimShaker Sound module. If you aren't running the JetSeat through USB you are missing one of its biggest advantages of zone effects. That is definitely one option. For instance, I use USB headphones for my in game sound, my Realtek motherboard sound card for SimShaker Sound Module, and my HDMI monitor sound out for the rare cases I use regular speakers for my computer. Agreed on the G effects, I only recently turned it back on and only for my bass pucks that are mounted at my heels and knees. We'll see if I keep it on, but having a L/R channel will actually let you know which way you are rolling too (not sure if Buttkickets have this). The high AOA effect blends in too much otherwise so it is off for the seat and I have the 3rd Space Vest for specific G feedback now. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -
Agreed! I just lost a wingman ejecting 25 miles from home a minute after he called bingo fuel. It's especially annoying because I'm doing DCS Liberation campaign so I lose a jet in my squadron and have to replace it A better way to do it may be add that info onto the flight radio check option because the radio check is not that useful (besides to check if a flight member is still alive without datalink). To everyone: another thing I would say in general is that I highly recommend curating your effects to what you like with the levels in each plane. Fin your most important to feel effects and focus on those and not as much on the other things. A plane like the F/A-18 that auto deploys the flaps constantly, it may not be as important to feel the flaps at a high level or even at all. The JetSeat and bass shakers are great but if you run everything at a high level close to each other it all muddles together and you can't really tell what is important. The high AOA and G effect both being on really taught me this. See page 14-18 of the SSA manual (which will open via the SSA help menu) for the JetSeat changes to edit the .uwv files, which a then a separate part of SSA tool will do. f4l0 is a busy guy and already puts a lot of time into this when we already have the tools to make it exactly like you want for the JetSeat. Yes, for the Sound Module (which is Andre's side of the house), you have to edit the .wav files which would take a audio editor like Audacity. But you can see and feel the effects in Sound Module Test mode to see what you like and get an idea of what you would like to change. It's not that hard then, https://dreamsimteam.blogspot.com/p/simshaker-sound-module-user-guide.html"]the guide[/url] shows you how to save them. Now that I'm back to my main computer, one other thing you asked is separate sound card. I highly recommend this so you get no audio bleed into your bass shaker system and it will only do the vibration and not get into the audible range as much (also the sound module's compression factor really helps with this as well). But the Jetseat should be ran via USB so you get the zone effect of the different motor locations. -

I too fly with G effects off with the JetSeat, the pucks still have them on in sound module since they are mounted close to my knees and heels. I find I can't tell the difference between stall effects and Gs with the seat. I have my threshold at 4 Gs which is also about where my 3rd Space vest kicks in. Check that the constant rumble that you are getting is not the engine rumble/prop beat effect as well. EDIT: Forgot to mention you can change all of the effects in both SSA and the sound module if you want to yourself. Sent from my LM-G850 using Tapatalk -
I thought I was running .262 but the with reinstall process back to 261 I had to do from the "Illegal Device" error the first time I tried it, I apparently didn't install it. I thought I wasn't seeing it since I use Smart Smoothing and hadn't taken the time to benchmark yet. So I was able to do a clean comparison right now. Yes, I finally get a 95% GPU utilization rate and about 25% framerates boost! I was also worried that this is Pimax leaving on some GPU Catalyst, which it always gave me artifacts even at the .25 setting but also always gave extra performance, but with these first few benchmarks I'm not seeing any so far. So yes, the bottleneck was Pimax's fault in this case. Sorry ED! I would point out that in the SU-25T free flight mission, fpsVR still says I am GPU limited with my CPU frametimes staying below 10ms until I take control and go fly low.
