i5 vs i7 with NTTR specs in mind
PondLife replied to RNeves's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Neves, My advise would be to buy an i5 4690K and clock it to around 4.6 Ghz if you feel brave. Don't waste your money on a i7 4790K unless you plan to run at stock speeds. It only adds a slightly higher turbo clock and base clock frequency along with Hyperthreading (which is absolutely no use to you in DCS) So there are some differences between the i5 and i7 processors. The latest models are called "Devils Canyon" I would advise getting a 'K" model as this denotes the CPU is unlocked and can be clocked (speeded up) The i7 has slightly more L3 cache (8MB vs 6MB) The i7 has Hyperthreading (No use having 8 threads available in DCS) The core clock speeds are higher out of the box (Only marginal increase in frame rates (2-3?) Some tests have been carried out and there is a good article here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8227/devils-canyon-review-intel-core-i7-4790k-and-i5-4690k The i5 is pretty easy to overclock if you have a descent air cooler. I have mine running at 4.8Ghz stable on AIO water cooling but my last rig was running the same CPU at 4.7 on air. This is way faster than most i7's out of the box and is at least $100 cheaper. -
Also vert descent rate went as high as 5,000 fpm which is in no way a normal descent rate, av descent rate appears to be around 3,500 fpm which is still way above normal and would indicate an emergency descent initiated by the crew. Speed was also fairly steady at between 460 and 480 Kts during the descent which is well below VNE at that altitude.

Its not unsure, all news agencies and ATC are reporting no distress call was received from the aircraft and that ATC raised the alarm.

I've "perfected" a technique I call "The Crazy Yeti" you or your wing man flies low across the target area looking for tracer fire and you create a mark point when you're over or abeam it. This approach often results in you taking hits... so I usually persuade my wing man to do it ;) The "Crazy Yeti" is not for everyone and often results in death, so the more conventional way is just to practice using pan and zoom from the cockpit, you'll be surprised how quickly you get adept at spotting targets.

Whats included and what are the dimensions? How is it fastened together? Screws? I may be interested....

You'll get most of the passwords if you join the servers teamspeak channels. They just want some coop going on using teamspeak.....

AI escorts for client aircraft
PondLife replied to PondLife's topic in User Created Missions General
CAP is different than an escort. I tried this in a mission last night and set the escort engage range to 20 miles and it worked pretty well. Assigning the escort request to the F10 comms menu seems to be the way to go as this would give you the option if you wanted it. -
AI escorts for client aircraft
PondLife replied to PondLife's topic in User Created Missions General
No matter what course you choose, the AI escort would stick with you. The escort would be the aircraft type allocated by the mission designer. -
So, there I was getting bounced (again) just after taking off from home plate in my A10C, I started thinking....wouldn't it be nice if I had an AI F15 escort who activated after I took off and stopped the nasty fighters from ruining my fun without a fair fight. To be honest, after running through start and nav alignment procedures and setting up my weapons, it really ***** me off when some yahoo hanging around the airfield decides to go Turkey hunting A10's.. To cut a long story short, you can trigger AI escorts to fly with you and engage if your threatened, the thing is... is this really fair on the opposing forces? You could even trigger them to go home once you entered enemy airspace.... what does everyone think?

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..

Malaysian airlines 777 crashed in Ukraine
PondLife replied to Jona33's topic in Military and Aviation
Eurozone control had this airspace open, also this is the common corridor for Asia bound flights to fly down, you can't blame the airline for flying the assigned route under ATC direction. Ukraine should really have closed that airspace but I don't think anyone thought Russia or the separatists Ukraine would shoot down an airliner. -
Dear regular users of S77th Server
PondLife replied to Devilman's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
it was running 1.2.7 last time I checked. -
Its "Ruble" but the trend doesn't look good.....

The main error I've seen when most people use JDAM"s is they don't lase whilst creating the markpoint or they lase too far out. I'm not going to draw diagrams but basically the assumed point in space can be off if you are not within 15 miles or so and lasing when the MP is created.

There are too many individual functional issues to count which could be causing crashes. I've yet to see someone positively ID one single issue that they can reliably recreate a crash with. I will however say that the more users on the server, the more it appears to crash and this would point towards windows session handling and the way the server handles user threads. C++ applications can have issues with memory allocation and freeing memory up if developers do not de-allocate all the memory they assign's. Having run data collectors on the s77th server and observed whats looks like a memory leak, I suspect this is the problem causing most of the instability. I get the impression ED have not quite grasped this problem, until they do, it may change a little but not much.
-
Yep, I started to use the AutoHotkey script and VB script a while ago, did you base it on mine?
-
I'm beginning to think this is a more generic issue involving the way DCS handles connections and the freeing up of threads associated with those connections when clients connect and disconnect. I posted some perfmon data collections in another post which look very much like a memory leak. Unfortunately ED does not appear to be taking much notice as I've had no constructive reply from them.,

And the MI-8 and Mustang have sold well? I have no idea what the sale numbers are but most people I fly with don't have them. To say Russians or US players won't fly foreign aircraft is a big assumption and I believe untrue. For most players it's about what they bring to the game and the scenarios. For me having a full def Nato semi-fast mover capable of SEAD would be a great bonus.

Hello all server admins. I'm trying to get an idea about stability with 1.27. Our server is crashing as much as before and on some days doesn't last for 30 minutes. Is this just our server (S77th Dedicated), or is everyone having similar experiences? Unloaded servers (low usage, few clients) seem to have less problem but the s77th is probably one of the most utilized servers out there and I'd like to compare notes. We get crashes every 2 - 3 hours dependent on usage.

Attached.... perfmon sample interval was 60 seconds by the way. And no it's not "useless" without a track file. You can run a data collector on a totally empty server and still see the memory leak on any mission. Whilst there are obviously issues with specific functions and scripts, this is a more generic problem with the freeing up of memory. Whilst I understand there is no generic garbage collection with C++, there are best practices associated with the de-allocation of memory. Without the source code I can't really de-bug further, but that's not my job is it...;)

Ed Our server still crashes every 2-3 hours, I've seen no improvement from the last 1.2.6 release. The issue may be the result of an application memory leak.... Example trk file attached. DCS_Crash.zip DCS-Crash-20140127.zip server-20140128-055555.trk

A lot of UK military still use QFE.... and also display pilots often use QFE....

Thanks, SLMOD seems the way to go.

Is there any way to detect if a multiplayer client (airborne) has committed fratricide and do something nasty to him? I've looked at player score less than, the ideal option would be to be able to use less than -1 but this is not possible in the editor.
