S! Got the freezing and crashing cured, it was one setting in drivers that had slipped unnoticed. I run EVERYTHING on default/application controlled on my GPU to minimize any conflicts with the game. Still have not found the cure to the "spiking" on FPS and VSync anomaly though. All other games and sims run flawlessly.

S! And last test with AMD Enhanced sync enabled from drivers, no in-game VSync and fps limiter set to 300. It looks like VSync is causing stutter issues with the game, without it the game is smoother but has some tearing. -

S! And last image with no VSync whatsoever, fps limiter still at 300fps. Always using same parameters: FW190A-8, Free Flight, The Channel map and fly low over the city at the coast. -

S! This is how the in-game performance monitor looks when having NO forced VSync from GPU drivers. Only using in-game FPS limiter set to 300fps and DCS own VSync enabled. -
S! Was flying on The Channel map a Free Flight mission in the F4U Corsair. After a few minutes game froze and crashed. Files attached. dcs.log-20250710-161212.zip

S! TAA is unusable on AMD cards. While it fixes the shimmering MSAA has, you will see ghosting, missing rendering of objects at certain disatnces, invisble parts on planes etc. Image is also way softer than with MSAA or no AA at all. No driver version has helped with this issue, have reported it as driver bug to AMD many times. Most striking example is how parts of planes are not drawn at all or only partially when a distance away from them. Followed a plane at around 900m and with TAA main wings were either see through or missing altogether. When coming in from a side angle parts of planes also are not drawn correctly, especially rudder etc.

Constant Stuttering Frequence since 30th of May update
Flanker35M replied to ejbhimself's topic in Game Performance Bugs
S! Have tried everything found on forums etc. No help. Still spiking accompanied with FPS dip. Also the built in FPS meter shows main thread flashing red at times etc. I have given up and waiting for future patches. -

S! @BIGNEWY I solved the issue by going Windowed instead of Fullscreen. I do not use MSAA or TAA. Particularly TAA is very problematic on AMD cards as it makes graphics too soft and there are graphical issues on planes, buildings etc. not drawing correctly + ghosting. I can live with a few jaggies and not use AA. As of Game mode and HAGS are both disabled. I do not force any settings thru GPU driver ie. using "Application controlled" for all. BIOS, chipset and GPU drivers are latest WHQL ones. -
Constant Stuttering Frequence since 30th of May update
Flanker35M replied to ejbhimself's topic in Game Performance Bugs
S! So to elaborate my problem. I ran the sim on a RX6950XT and it was a smooth solid 100fps experience. I used the in-game fps limiter set to 105fps as my monitor is a 100Hz one. And used in game VSync, not forcing it thru drivers. So it ran very fine and dandy. Now I have installed a RX9070XT and expected it to run easily at same graphics settings etc. But the latest patches either broke the game or DCS does not like 9070XT. I believe it was the first option. I enabled the in-game FPS/performance window to see what was going on. I got high spikes of the green graph(simulation) and that caused FPS drops and outright pauses and stuttering. And when flying low the frametime graph(white) looked like a hacksaw and you could see how it stuttered and lagged. When flying higher the problem was not there except the green graph still spiking at variable intervals. So what I did was to got thru a process of elimination ie. going through graphical settings one by one and noting which one caused or remedied the issues. And after a lot of rear end numbing instant action flying over the same spot of the Channel map it became clear that the hacksaw effect was caused by in-game VSync. If using GPU driver VSync the issue was stll there but less. So when frametime graph(white) was ok I focused on the simulation spikes(green). No setting whatsoever helped this except turning off Full screen. That removed the spiking and pauses. So now I am running windowed mode without VSync and limited FPS to 240 in game thru the own limiter. Everything runs smooth and tearing is non-existent or minimal while frame time is under 10ms. No spiking or hacksaw, just smooth and consistent performance. Hope this helped. And running 2D. -

S! And again some more testing. So the culprit for "hacksaw" effect was indeed the VSync(in game). If using GPU setting = no hacksaw. But still had the spikes of the green graph(simulation). So as a last resort turned off Full Screen, ALL stutters and spiking gone! Smooth as butter again and could even up my settings a bit without performance loss. A happy camper! -

S! Disabling Clutter/Grass helped a bit, but the "hacksaw" effect was still there is solely tied to VSync being on. Tried every setting to see what happens, but nothing helped dcs.log -
Severe loading performance issues with 2.9.16
Flanker35M replied to Nightstorm's topic in Game Performance Bugs
S! For me only thing affected really is when exiting the game, takes longer than previously. I bought a WD Black 2TB PCIe 4.0 drive just for DCS as was running out of space on my original game nVME. -

Flanker35M replied to ejbhimself's topic in Game Performance Bugs
S! Did some more testing last night and found out the following. When having VSync enabled I get the "hacksaw" indication on the metrics window(built in game) when flying at low altitude. Without VSync there is no "hacksaw" effect visible on the metrics. Also this "hacksaw" effect is visible only when flying at very low altitude Vsync enabled aka treetop level. If going a bit higher the effet goes away and all is smooth. Will do more testing but could it be the Clutter and grass setting can affect this as it tries to draw grass etc when at low altitude? As said, testing more Another thing I noticed that when not using VSync and just the built in FPS limiter in DCS the spiking of the green line(simulation) gets worse the closer you set it to the monitor´s refresh rate. A quick estimate is within 25FPS. Again the spiking gets worse the lower you go in altitude being worst over towns or otherwise demanding scenes. I would rather use VSync than FPS limiter due tearing and with VSync giving smoother experience. As of now I set the limiter to 300 and use VSync getting a smooth experience. A couple patches ago I could use limiter without issues, even with my old GPU RX6950XT vs current RX9070XT. -

S! Some more stuttering. I got rid of the "hacksaw" effect by not using VSync, but limited FPS within game. Not really keen to fly before this is solved Track and log attached. dcs.log LastMissionTrack.trk -
wip Dark, dirty glass and canopy reflection
Flanker35M replied to Michal's topic in Bugs and Problems
S! This seems to be so odd. Sometimes the canopy is clear without reflections as set it to 0. Next game launch the red glare and smeary windows are back. There is no consistency in the settings sticking or not... -

S! This is how DCS looks with it´s built in metrics after latest updates. Before it ran buttersmooth. To test this one just go to Fw190A or any plane of that matter, select The Channel, Free flight and fly over the city at the coast looking to either side from cockpit. dcs.log -
S! Have had an issue where the airspeed indicator starts to go backwards in flight when increasing speed. Usually this happens in the P-47 at above 10kft, it shows 400mph IAS even you go maybe 250-300mph for real. Then it begins to go backwards when speed increases. Had this same happen in the Dora yesterday too, airspeed went backwards as speed increased in a dive. In both planes had pitot heating on etc. Anyone else noticed this? I have run repair and cleanup. Only mod installed is the A-4E Skyhawk, otherwise clean install.

S! Got rid of the red glare on the canopy by enabling global illumination in cockpit. Without it the red reflection is still there. The windscreen and canopy are dirty as heck, not only on Anton. Easiest solution would be to have clean glass on every plane as they were cleaned thoroughly by ground crew before flight. No need to model something negative when we have factory fresh planes within paper specs after all.

S! Sure a very early access of the map, but the feel is there. Even found my home near Rovaniemi Sure the buildings were of wrong type in the area, but locations more or less there. Eagerly waiting what future updates will bring on the table. Seems I am forced to get a bigger m2/NVME...
