  1. As for copy protection somebody was talking about Steel Beasts. That is the model and paradigm for Black Shark DCS; both are highly detailed attempts to model modern warfare in a way that isn't necessarily "entertaining"...they won't appeal to most 14 year old boys that play BF2. They're study sims that require a lot of work to learn...therein lies their value. And what does Steel Beasts use? A dongle. I think a dongle would be a very cool route to go for BS DCS even if it made the sim more pricey..
  2. This game should be classified. What year is the technology up to? 1995? I just don't see how they can have pinned down so much authentic detail right down to the flight characteristics. Is there a "story of the creation of BS DCS" floating around out there somewhere?
  3. How did you go about assigning a core specifically to Lock On? Was there some sort of app that you had for doing that?
  4. Dual Core? I've had dual core for 2.5 years now and I'm going to skip the quad cores for the 8 cores that are just coming out now... http://www.apple.com/macpro/ My 2 gig of RAM is not enough...I'll want 4 minimum.
  5. Well the game is coming out of the box with two available levels; a playable low learning curve version and the full "study sim" which is what really appeals to most of us I think.
  6. Yes, why spend so much on simming? You could save that money for your next Real Doll™;)
  7. Go back and read the OP; the flight sim manual will be 450 pages, the DCS manual will be an additional 100 pages. I was asking what that 100 page DCS manual was going to cover.
  8. Wow...that manual is going to be a BEAST! What will the DCS manual cover, specifically? I can see the Black Shark side of the manual but what kind of stuff will be covered in the combat simulator side in those 100 pages?

  10. Glad to see you're sticking with DirectX 9 for now. LOMAC runs great at max settings on my rig so I'm praying that the DCS will too.
  11. I think there's autopilot hovering...I HOPE....but still that's funny...lol
  12. Pretty much, yeah. I mean even if it doesn't come out initially it would be one of the easiest packages to add on. It's not like adding a new aircraft with all the detailed physics of the plane's attribute or the microscopic attention to the cockpit. It's be laser , binoculars, vehicle etc.. And anyone got a link to that video? Thx.
  13. Just a question about all these incredible details; to what extent will we be able to just wander around the battlefield zooming in on all these great details and watch all the activity of the war unfold around us? How will that work? Will it be more fluid and effective than the current situation in LOMAC where you're just hitting different F keys and jumping back and forth between 6 or 7 possible views?
  14. This will be THE release of 2008 IMHO.
  15. Or is that only for the military training simulator version sold as the Digital Combat Simulator? It would be VERY cool if we could drive around calling in air strikes...
  16. For helicopter missions? A2G, definitely. Particularly as the DCS promises some really interesting (and hopefully huge) ground attacks. REally just how huge is the scope of military operations going to be in the DCS for the consumer model? A division? :music_whistling:
  17. Really? Thanks for setting me straight then...I always assumed LOMAC was just an offshoot of IL2 Sturmovik and that Oleg was involved.. Maybe it's because the official website directly links to Il2
  18. One thing about Black Shark puzzles me, and it's particularly puzzling in the context of this subject; why are they building it on the old Il2 Sturmovik engine when they could be interacting with Oleg Maddox to build this new sim on his new (and apparently much superior ) Storm of War engine with its vastly superior weather/wind current physics and volumetric clouds?
  19. A question for married guys; is building a cockpit in the garage for your helicopter sim grounds for your wife divorcing you?
  20. This is the sole game/sim I'm waiting for right now. This is what we NEED...a serious simulator to investigate the nature of modern warfare with. I can't wait. I hope my 2 gig RAM, AMD 3800 X2 dual core, Nvidia 7800GT rig can run it as well as it ran LOMAC. Watching for its release like a hawk.
