[Feature Request] Visual Combat Effects
Solty replied to Magic Zach's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
US planes did not have "observer" amunition. It is the standard issue M8 API (Armor Piercing Incendiary) and M20 APIT (Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer). The magnesium at the tip of the bullet makes a flash when bullet strikes and they do a ton of damage. -
[Feature Request] Visual Combat Effects
Solty replied to Magic Zach's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I am awaiting that time, when we get new hit effects and damage model. -
Is it a permanent jam? Do you have to go back and repair?
-
I like those labels.

I thought of one more for the Germans that might be a good idea. Dual MG34 AAMG

Nobody asks for anyone's opinion. This is a bug report. I am waiting for ED to respond. Your input is usless.

How to change the camera in multiplayer replay?
Solty replied to Solty's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thx -
The Ohio test claims 375mph with automatic radiator and wing racks. If you close the radiator you might loose the engine quickly and it is not a normal operation. What was your way of getting that speed? Did you keep to the testing standard?

Because we don't know whats the state of those things. We just know that ED is "working on them". Will ED develop more aircraft? Will we get some twin-engine bombers? Will we get some dive bombers? Will we get some variety? What is the future?! Many of us, WW2 simmers, fly since early 2000's and to us 4 fighter planes with some AI units do not make for a very comeplling experience. Even if we get 6 planes it is not good enough. And not to mention that we payed hard earned buck for it. ED has one of the more expensive WW2 experiences and shows lots of flaws and they seem to take forever to be adressed. The DM alone is beeing worked on so long that you could create a full indie game during that time. For many VEAO was the future of WW2, even if that was undeserved, as they had a great WW2 collection of planes to be developed in the future. We are all waiting for someone to announce some Tempest/Typhoon, Mosquito, P-38, Spit XIV, A-20, Ju-87, Hs-129, Me-410, Fw190A8, Bf109G6. To create some variety in air combat and make it feel alive and more period correct. And that is just for the one Normandy theatre. I wanted to get all the WW2 planes when they get out, but have put that on hold, because I am not satisfied with the product and I will not invest into something that might not get better soon and seems to have no future planed.

Please do not derail this topic anymore, speed diference has nothing to do with one's ability to dogfight. Reflected is right though. There is a big difference between beeing faster and beeing slower than the enemy. If you are 5 mph faster than the enemy you can escape, if you are slower you can't. I think that is clear and self explanatory. PS. Flying is not magic. You can't turn tighter than your airplane is capable of.

Sounds like you might like Operation Cobra ;)

?

That data was confirmed in the past as benchmark which P-51 was based on and it was capable of those speeds in version 1.2 and most of 1.5 but has dropped in later versions of 1.5 and 2.0. Be sure to remember that the Ohio test was using a Mustang with wing racks attached which shave off some speed.
-
No it is YoYo's chart :).
-
That is a line provided by YoYo, the FM developer and it is the intended performance from older DCS versions, which as my tests have shown is not the same that we have currently. There are not many P-51D performance tests, that is not data that can be easily acquired. The reference data was confirmed in the past as the standard on which the FM was built upon, that is why I am using it. Every plane in DCS is aiming for the best possible performance.

I don't think that is such a good idea, unless there is only one base in the mission. If you make AAA very accurate, most people will just wait near their fields and when in bad situation will run towards their base. That is how it worked with Gepard on 1.5 anticipation mission.

I have felt for quite a time that the plane is kinda slow compared to what we are fighting. I have made few test flights in the 2.1 Normandy version. Test settings: Pressure: 760 mm Hg Temperature: 15' C Wind: 0 m/s Altitude: Sea Level Plane: P-51D Weight: 4 427kg (9760lb) -------------------------------- Referece Data: - DCS YoYo's chart: Military Power, 61' Hg: 364 mph - Flight Tests on the North American P-51D Airplane, AAF No. 44-15342 Military Power, 61' Hg: 364 mph War Emergency Power 67' Hg: 375 mph http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/P-51D_15342_Level.jpg http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/p51d-15342.html Test 1: Manifold Pressure 61' Hg; RPM 3000; Mixture setting: Run; Radiator setting: Automatic; TAS achieved: 576 kph (357 mph) Test 2: Manifold Pressure 67' Hg; RPM 3000; Mixture setting: Run; Radiator setting: Automatic; TAS achieved: 590 kph (366 mph) Summary and conclusion: The test begun with engine temperatures within limits and speed was achieved via level flight acceleration and not dive. Airplane was trimmed to keep the level flight and adjustments were done via elevator and aileron trim. The airplane did not meet the speeds provided by the referential data. I hope someone can cross check my tests. I will provide more if needed. Old test I made in version 1.5: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3062437&postcount=34

I agree. That is an immersion killer.

Spitfire first take-off; first "landing" observations
Solty replied to beagleRampant's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
It is still a Merlin. Packard Merlin. Not Rolls Royce. -
The server has enforced 1st person perspective. From a gamplay point of view thats great, 10/10. But from a video-making perspective it limits the possibility to create cool dogfight videos. My question is. Is there a way to change the replay in a way that allows for 3rd person camera?:book:

Shows what you know. Warthunder has no icons and superior LODs in all respects.
-
No dude. Its not like we non VR players can tell what plane we are chasing from more than 600m. This is part of the combat. Get close and ID your target. You can tell by the shape of the plane, don't expect colors to play any part in this. Or if it is such a nuisance, abandon VR.

We could already see people modding their icons to be like that. So it is only leveling the playing field. And remember, we only had missions in perfect sunny conditions. I have not flown with them yet, but I think that spotting in DCS is realy broken. So it is better that every one can see than when some people can and some can't at all, and start to cheat :/ But I am realy against full labels and colors, that's too arcadey.
