What does it mean though? Are the control surfaces more responsive? Do they stiffen more but transition is more detailed? Is there a change is max AoA? Less drag? Less buffeting? What do you mean by saying that it is "smoother"?

There is one main error. You should start by accelerating to the highest speed, not waiting till the speed drops from a dive. Engine heats up at lower speeds and radiators open and do not allow the plane to get faster, but wen you dive down the speed drop is going to be lower because you were cooled for the duration of a dive. So if it is not standarised and for example you dove in the 109 but accelerated in the 190, then the data skewed in favour of the 109 etc. You also get different results between planes depending on their cooling efficiency. EDIT: What are the power settings, altitude and all other settings? (radiator position, mixture, air temperature etc.) Did we get any FM improvements/changes for those planes? I haven't flown for a month following the advice of the moderators to take a break from the game.

Many treat sound design as a secondary thing. They do not realise how powerful of a tool it is and how much it can do for the game. Especially for a flight sim.

Interesting. Any video?

Is the WWII assets pack a must have for Normandy?
Solty replied to Gpruitt54's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Your logic is flawed. Typically people buy their PCs and save the money for a new one for years. My old PC was 7 years old. I spent that time saving money for a new one and still had to buy a budget rig. 60USD in some countries might be earnings from a whole month. -
99.9% in K4 :music_whistling:

I had that ale once. It was nice. I do not like beer, but this was nice :).

And maybe without MW50?:music_whistling:

Still P-51 can be a good interceptor with quite nice ROC and decent firepower it could definitely be able to take on Ju88 and He111. And its longer range combined with early warning tech (radar) would be able to intercept the bombers long before they were even close to their target.
-
D has nothing to do with 'Dome', it's a direct continuation of P-51 B and C series. Right after D version H and K came out. But yes, P stands for pursuit.

Why is 3rd person allowed? That destroys realistic spotting as players can see behind and bellow where they would normally have blind spots.:(

Yep and the prop texture looks better than the old one. Good change.

What if it means we won't get P-47 at all?
-
I agree about those bomb effects. They looke pretty good, but it will surely depend on how powerful the explosive is and remember that targets such as fuel tanks and ammo depots can blow with BIG and pretty firey explosion. P-47 strafing a train with machine gun fire: .50cal bullets hit another train: Another train hit with .50cal fire (probably fuel or ammo) And here JDAM: It all depends what blows up and definitely bombs that hit the ground will produce way more visible dust than a fuel tank blowing up above the surface. :)

From what we know from wags the WW2 planes are easier to make than those ultra advanced jets from 80's and 90's.

Our current P-51D is not post war, its from 1945, Pacific configuration P-51D30.

"sound-radar"...official opinion on it?

How many of you regularly fly medium/heavy bombers?
Solty replied to Geronimo989's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
There are different challenges. I tried He111 lately and I couldn't make it fly fast enough, it was very heavy, impossible to gain altitude and overstressed my engine and crashed into the woods. Indeed it is like driving a truck but you have to admire people who get to their target and drop bombs and get back. It is a different kind of challenge. Especially going back with damage. -

 I almost never fly bombers. But I realy love when others do and I can be on comms with them protecting them from other human oponents. One moment you are flying casually talking on the way to the target, when suddenly a gunner calls "FW190 1 o'clock high, he's comming for us!", and you suddenly break to engage and they see how you blow him to bits and say "Thanks, that was a close one, only a minor fuel leak, already self-sealed". These are the best :D -
That's why I said weapon systems not weapons and even given the example of P-51B and D where both guns are the same but the way they are set up makes a difference between being prone to jam and not having manyh issues with it. :)

[Feature Request] Visual Combat Effects
Solty replied to Magic Zach's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I am not sure whether that happens... But you can see flashes on the ground/dirt, so might actually spark on a tree. I would imagine that it is the magnesium alone that makes a flash, but I might be wrong. -
Nothing, just saying that in our P-51D there is something, so it is not only Fw190D that has it modeled, but it works differently. That is why I asked if it is permanent. With 109 (plane a)and 190 (plane b), if those weapon systems are the same there is no excuse that one would work different than the other. But what I though, is that it might be possible that 109 cannot get into that high G's and therfore never get into a position of jamming the weapons. At what G's does this occur?
-
In P-51D at high G's there is a stoppage. So sometimes you are pulling lead and you shoot and MG's stop on their own. But they never get jammed. But we loose HMGs a lot from any little damage to the wing. I only read that P-51B had jamming problems but P-51D mitigated that by changing the angle at which the guns were setup. D version seemingly didn't have too many jamming issues. It is wierd though if the setup of the 109 and 190 of 13mm machine guns is the same and 190 gets a jam at the same G's. Although it is easier to pull higher G's with 190 so it might be the same but 109 might not be able to even pull that many G's without substantial horisontal stab trim. One more thing, P-51D has overheating modeled (even overmodeled if you ask me) and weapons bend and bigger dispersion appears. German guns do not have that modeled (confirmed) because as the developers said there is no data on that, so no overheating modeled at all (?).

Upcoming WWII Damage Model Speculation
Solty replied to Magic Zach's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Haha hur dur herp derp. So funny :yay::prop::cheer3nc: ------------- I predict that the out of the planes that we have in the game, the Fw190D will be the most durable, mostly due to the fact that it has the radiator in a hard to hit position and it will be a bit harder to destroy the wing than before. First fuel tank is also very well placed, so if 190 will have low fuel it can be hard to set on fire. I think that plane will get more survaviblity. But it is still an inline engine so any damage to it will result in engine failure. P-51D will be very similar to what we have although 20mm and 13mm weapons won't be able to rip its wings off as quickly, but it has a radiator underneath that might be easy to damage from behind. It will also depend on the fuel level, if the auxilary tank is empty it won't be any problem but on long missions it might get set afire. It will be better not to get hit in the P-51D but it might take a hit or two. Just don't push it. Bf109K will become the most fragile of all planes. Mainly due to the placement of very important systems. Radiators are big and around the cockpit and are easy to damage from every angle, MW50 and Fuel tank are always in the line of fire right behind the cockpit and the plane has only one wing spar to support the wing and it will be quite easy to make the wing fly off especially with Hispano and wheels are not locked so if you get hit into the hydraulic system, those wheels will drop. One more thing is the wooden vertical stabiliser which might shatter after getting hit with .50cal or 20mm bullets. Spitfire will be more durable than the 109 but it will still be better not to get hit. Similarly to the P-51D, I think that 20mm and 13mm guns will do way less damage to the structure but they will be quite good at damaging systems, so you have to watch out for that and radiators might be possible to be hit from more angles than on P-51. It will generally be better not to get hit in the Spit. The most durable plane we will have will be the P-47D which has thick wing spars, no water cooling, powerful and rugged engine that can take 20mm hits and keep on working. And it has its main "amour", the big turbocharger in the back of the plane that is so thick none of our weapons will be albe to go through it. Every part of that plane is rugged and can take a hit. The weakest point of every plane is the pilot, here it is the only weakpoint. But the Mk108 will test that durability and especially the wings will be put to the test, as that cannon can destroy B17's wing with 5 accurate hits.
