  1. Just thinking in type here...I think it's related to the missile and not a target cue, because it disappears as soon as the missile is launched. It might be related to loft angle. The steering dot is at 20-something degrees, the line might indicate minimum loft needed for current range.
  2. Just guessing, but perhaps those are range indicators? Rmax, Rmin and such...there's a little indicator inside the ASE circle as well, while the aspect indicator is on the outside. Not sure what the dotted line is. edit: woops, you already got it
  3. I assume (based on no info whatsoever) that the next sim from ED will be DX9.0+ and naturally support higher level lighting routines. I agree that Lock Ons terrain lighting in particular leaves some to be desired, not considering the fact that it is the best looking sim of all times. By the way, what is that big ramp in the screens? Some rail-launcher for a space vehicle? I'm looking into upgrading my secret island (where I hatch evil plots to destroy the world), this looks like an excellent choice! :D
  4. Don't look at 9600 stuff, buy something new if you can afford it. Gigabyte has released a fanless X800, check it out here: http://www.pcstats.com/releaseview.cfm?ReleaseID=1192 Remember you need a mobo/CPU and RAM to keep up with it. :)
  5. Disable hardware acceleration on your soundcard, bring the slider down one notch. (not a sure shot, but worth a try)
  6. I'll do some benchmarks, which scenario/settings do you recommend? (Fire? Overcast? Water? Explosions?)
  7. Brilliant preview! Babelfish may not be ideal, but surely good enough to get the point. :) Very interesting to read about AI behaviour, how they would exit a fight. In 1.0.2, I've dragged AI across friendly SAMs many times and they always take the bait and get shot down. Having a routine that almost gives them human sense of survival (in a subtle way of course) adds very much to gameplay. The best moments in simming are when you feel lucky that you got 4 out of 6, not disappointed that you only got 5 of them. Also, I am officially in love with the new ejection sequence: http://www.alasrojas.com/lomac/preview11mig/image91.jpg Watch out for the canopy! :D
  8. Don't know if this has been asked yet, but will there be frag damage in 1.1? (Getting damaged by shrapnel/blast from your own bombs)
  9. Speaking of which, would anyone like a Jan 5th Thunder Works update with a Harrier video? :D Here you go: http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm Very very pre-alpha, but I love how they throw us bones like this.
  10. Yes, I think this two-seater problem is way overrated. If you look at what you do, it's not more than slew-lock-fire, no matter what weapons you use. The almost extreme solution would be to have an AI WSO command you to targets (as specified in mission editor) but that has many potential problems and frustrations...another is the seat switch. You manage weapons from the back seat (F1 to toggle) but you still have stick control. You don't have to simulate the lack of flight controls the WSO has in order to simulate the weapon controls he does have. It's a flight sim, not a pilot sim. AI WSO can be completely dropped and a two seater would still provide fairly straight forward gameplay. MP would be fantastic!
  11. Similar to Falcon 4, I assume every clickable function would have its own keystroke as well. "Hmmm, what was "dim nav lights" again? Ctrl-Shift-Alt-L? Or Alt-Shift-Ctrl-L?"
  12. May I be the first to say: "Sounds fine, but make it very optional" In the A-10 it's quite easy to read what weapon you've selected and the HUD only has three modes, but for the Su-25 it's an entirely different matter. Even if there's lights to tell you what you've done (I spent several hours figuring out the weapons panel in the Frog), a text response would be great help to ease newcomers in. Good suggestion!
  13. Hey, careful with that, someone under 18 can see it. :?
  14. Perhaps there are some from Vietnam. Some places sell DVDs with various guncamera footage etc, but the only clips of A2A kills in Vietnam I've seen on the net has been the various famous Sidwinder shots.
  15. Try them both and write a review. :D PS Merry Christmas all
  16. I know, just using the GAU-8 for comparison since it's supposedly more accurate.
  17. Source? Here's GAU-8 dispersion at 1NM: http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_098yy.html A bit more than 6'.
  18. Thanks DropZone, I only have vague memories of attending geometry class. I don't trust a gamer to do it with eyesight on his 2D monitor. Perhaps we could find out a way to test it?
  19. If my guess is correct, it's a vid with rather saturated colours with the A-10 flying away from the camera right? If it's the one I think, it's from the flight testing. The dispersion shown in that vid would make it useless for anti-tank missions, and I think either the video/perspective/something is lying or it was simply a poor system. I'm not sure how to convert the milliradian figures into the more understandable (for me) "x foot circle at y distance", but this article on SimHQ says 80% of the rounds go through a five foot diameter circle at 1000 feet range. http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_098h.html Can you just convert the milliradian number into X diameter at Y range? Also check out comparison with VW Beetle :D http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_098ddd.html
  20. Cool! Can you tell us who is who? :D
  21. The Su-30 incident is a bit different because the plane is close to stationary when they eject, so there is not much momentum carrying them towards any nasty hard objects like the Earth. Realplayer video here http://www.simradar.com/Feature/Misc_Videos/Accidents/ Along with a few others that are worth checking out (or seeing again). Modern ejection seats are amazing works of engineering and are capable of some astonishing things, but they have their limits... Was cool to see the new rocket motor sequence, even if it was just a 1/3rd of a second. :D
  22. This is a great addition, and I completely agree with you regarding what type of comms to add / not to add. I don't think Lock On's graphics can be praised enough when it comes to immersion...ducking behind hills for cover, doing fast low-alt ingresses with popups/rollovers to look for the best valley to buzz...never did that in any other sim. Another thing is the fluid feeling of accuracy when manouvering with small inputs. Other sims seem like they jerk between different fixed angles, Lock On is just smooth. (IL-2 is very close to this though) As for the voice actors....I wonder if they could hire the German guy from IL-2 to do Luftwaffe ground control....."ACTHUNG!! NICHT LANDUNG! NICHT LANDUNG!!!" He needs an anger management course I think.
  23. Yeah, on the front page: http://www.lockon.ru/index.php?end_pos=77&scr=signup&lang=en It's normal to register somehow for a purchase system. It seems to be slightly unfinished though....your password is in plain text in the profile and it was in the url earlier (seems to be gone now). Also, the hardware I wrote in the specs have changed back and forth a few times....
  24. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-approved-signup-countries-outside I was talking about the lockon.ru registration.
  25. Posted as paraphrase on another forum: I disagree with the italized part, I have no problem putting the entire blame on a single species: The Carnivorous Industrialized Lawyer (iudex machinae horribilis)
