QUICK Update The DIY hydrailics system works like a charm..! It really feels more like the real thing (or at least a Eurocopter Collective).. View from top (behind the Left Wall) ..and through the slot from the front showing the lower piston and it's attachment point.. .. well no time for explaining.. I'm off to se my girlfriend now.. And she has precenence over Pitbuilding .... at least now..! -

Hey Alex..:smilewink: Where have you been lately..? I saw the units you made for firing rockjets from your RC Heli.. REAL COOL..! Got some questions about those... he he.. Here are some pictures on my Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback MOD for the Front Pedestal.. I'll be testing it tonight.. And making a more complete update for you all.. Now If I can just trick HPO into making a better Trigger Mechanism for me I'de be on my way.. LoL -

The Stepper motors controlled by a computer, and it drives the X, Y and Z axis on the mill. So that I can first make a CAD drawing of the Panels or Parts, And have the CnC Mill cut it out precisly like I want it to be (Things like the Panels with text backlighted. Or knobs, Gauges, and of course the trigger mechanism). Oh it will be there my friend.. I just did'nt bother attaching the new stepper motor for these pics.. And it WORKS..! So now I'm of to get me some 5-8mm axle connectors.. Yahoo..! I can finally continue on the panels now..! -

Peace out 'bro.. I totally will have the most excelent Force Feedback thingie workin' on my pedals.. (puff puff).. I just had to after The Oh So glorious Urze Mentor (..bowing in respect..) led me down the path of enlightment towards my destiny.. Shhhh.. Everyone.. He speaks now.. He He.. But seriously. After reading a Pdf dokument released by Bell Helicopters on theys 206 series and Force-Trim functions. And seing Urze's video with the Cougar/Force Feedback hybrid, and how good that worked I capitulated.. I am now a huge fan of DCS/BS with Force Feedback Joystick.. It completely changes the way you fly this whirly-bird (or rather the way you don't without it!). As for the Pedals I am wayting for a Steeringwheel with FFB that has been ordered to Hack..! My next post will be the incorparation of a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback Joystick Mechanics into the Front Pedestal and connecting it to my Home-brew Ka-50 Stick with the trigger mechanism that I most likely NEVER will be satisfied with.. But Today is also a day of joy because... THE X/Y TABLE WITH NEW STEPPER MOTORS IS DONE..! So tonight I'll be connecting all the electronics and Powersupply and sit there watching as it goes "Wrrrrrrrrrrr...." -

Yes you are quite right my mate..! I AM using IOCards from Opencockpits in my Ka-50 pit..! And as soon as I have finished the Collective Mech and Cyclic Stick (a temporary version mind you..) building. I will start connecting the Left lower panel module (APU Startup, radio and Targeting panels plus main-fuel shut off and Rotorbrakes) to the IOCards. We're still talking maybe 2 months in time if I really work hard. But I'll be posting everything I learn as it comes along.. -

I have to share this with you all..! We're all going on and on about us being a "community".. And being slightly in love with words I have pondered over this. Not quite knowing what it takes to justifiably call ourself by a name as grand as this.? I thought a community would have to have some kind of social empathy. And since we are all more or less "incognito" I really didn't expect this here.. And then DCS released the Russian version of Blackshark, and so many of us got thrown into an involuntary crash-course in Cyrillic (or got really good at Babelfishing:helpsmilie:).. Yours truly not excluded off course..! After my gazzilionth try at accuiring some BMZ's or DMZ's or whatever kids call'em these days, I was on the brink of resignation. So I vented myself on under the banner of "buying the Russian version"... A thread that actually should promtly be renamed "NOT being able to buy the Russian version"! Since that after all is what it's mainly about? And to my astonishment I got a responce from a fellow member of our community saying that he would go out (.. and we're talking RL out here.. Into the rain and icy winds..) and buy for me a voucher so I to could download Blackshark..? AND HE DID IT TO..! I got the voucher code the very next day.. Just as he had said..! "Well what's so big about that?" you might ask yourself..? The thing is that no one would have thought any less of anyone who didn't do it.. And we shouldn't either..! But some members of this community stand out from the crowd as shining examples and actually go the extra mile for a fellow member of the Blackshark Fan Club.. And when it happens I feel a strong urge to tell everyone that there is no need for worries.. We MUST BE a community..?! Because we're actually looking out for each others interest as best as we can! And by golly that makes me D..MN proud of us..! So 159th_Viper... Stand up and take a bow.. 'Cause from here on you are my living proof of the fact that allthough we are masked behind nicknames and come from an abundance of social, ethnic or national backgrounds. We actually look out for eachother..! I can never give you enough cred mate..! Thank you.. .. just had to share it with the rest of you..

Part 2 It will sit on the Collective Mechanics approximately like this: Only on the INSIDE stupid..:smilewink: The Colective Stick will have a valve (not sure of the type valve though.. I'm thinking maybe NOT this one.. LoL) Also the Collective Brake Handle got an upgrade so I got rid of the extra play in it..! And all that is left is to assemble everything and fiddle with it till it works..!:helpsmilie: -

Ka-50 Pitbuild Update - 12. november 2008 - Collective brake Hydraulics The mechanic Collective Brake is discarded.! Although it workes fine, it just did'nt feel like the real thing should.. And I REALLY want it to feel solid and have constant resistance forces where it should... Not feel the notches on the webstrap as it glides over the rollers, and have a 2,5cm play up and down when ity should just STOP..! So I did some thinking, and I looked at the hydraulic dampener I made for the pedals.. I got me two more of those (see picture1) that actually are door-dampeners made so your doors don't slam shut in the wind: They are about 10 Euro, so I got a couple to experiment with. All I wanted was the cylinder and the piston, so I had to open it up and remove the return-spring inside of it. So I cut arround the rear end of the cylinder: Pulled the rear end off: Used a Dremel to grind down the part of the thread that had been compressed by the manufacturer to prevent the buyer unscrew the piston completely from its axle.. And out came the pieces: Now the return-spring we don't need so chuck that away (in some box or a drawer.. you'll most likely find a need for it): Now we need a means of getting the oil from inside the dampener and through a valve that control the Collective Brake. I opted for making this hole through the allready pre-drilled rear loolink like this: After drilling it should look something like this: Now cut the damn thing shorter if you want.. I did shorten it by 100mm: The I cut the front end of a Brass connection from wher ever (I cant remember) and simply RAMMED IT IN WITH A HAMMER..! Dam therapeutic job that for a frustrated Norwegian.. I really got in contact with the brutal old Viking side of me..! And it came out lokking like a you-know-what: Now thread the open end and insert a 5mm set-screw with some thead-tape (like plumbers use): And that will take care of that..! PLEASE REMEMBER TO DRILL A HOLE SO THE OIL CAN ENTER TO THE BRASS TUBE..! (i didn't... and it sucked:doh:) The System Completly Assembled As you see from the pics the oil-level rises and falls in the resarvoir as the piston pressed.. Now imagine a valve between the oil-dampener and the resavoir closing the oilflow.. And there you have it..! -

I have'nt been idle.. I just haven't had time to post a good update.. But here are some pics: Got some bigger stepper motors by looking for old photocopiers on the local garbage disposal site.. (compare it to the one I was going to use... yeah right.. The small one) The powersupply came out of an old Akai amplifier.. It should give me enough "juice"..? And the replacements for the motor controller chips I blew have ariveed, and been soldered in place.. Pedals nearing completion.. (Thanks Urze for the excellent advice..) More indepth on them later.. I think they came out quite like the originals judging from the picture I had: My new Hydrailic Collective setup made up from dirt-cheap DIY dampeners. They are actually made for dampening doors, and I opened them up and removed the spring inside.. (and a little more).. And the Collective brake handle will shut of a valve that control the oil running from one dampener to the other. That way I get the right "feel", and the Collective Stick does not move a millimeter when it's released.. Again more on this later.. But here is a little clue how I did it.. All these modifications are quite easy to make, but it takes a while for me to make a simple and understandable "how To" for you guys.. So please be patient with me..? Also coming is.. The testing of the Collective switches and a new Main Front Panel is assembled.. It's all starting to come together.. I can't wait to play with it.. C",) -
This is driving me to the brink of killing myself...! Can't find a way to get a UKASH Voucher from a reseller in Norway. Can't find another way to use UKASH with my VISA.. Can't get the da..n PayPal to Webmoney transaction working.. And I can't find any more ways to try..! I think I might be one of those needing help here..!

Aaaah.. My bad..! I had to delete them from my forum folder becuase the pics were filling up all the space.. I'll try and remember to upload them to Imageshack and re-post them.. As far as Opencockpits goes, I have nothing but nice things to say about the products and the competance level of the users.. They are not the simplest IOCards available (my oppinion), but they seem really adaptable! And they keep developing new cards as new needs arise.. -

Ka-50 Pitbuilding Update - 2. november 2008 - Collective Breakout board Well.. I have been dreading this breakout board for long now.. Mainly because I knew that when I started this I also had to start making a list where I can re-trace all the cables for the whole Pit.. And this soundes like such a drag, plus I had no idea if I should make an Excel sheet, or just draw it all by hand or.. or... But now that ED have been kind enough to release the commands as an Excel Sheet so I that I can use this as a template I needed to get started.. Only to find that naturally I was out of etching fliud ..! Well break out the good old test boards and get to work..! As you can see I have decided to run all the cables to the IO Cards in bunts of ten.. First of all because I have access to as much of this cable as I need, and also finding a faulty connection in a ten-lead cable is more easy than in a 50 lead IDE-type cable.. I have two LED's on the breakout board. One that lights up to indicate that the Collective Mechanics 5 Volt supply is on, and a simular for the 12 Volt. Since I will be using Hall-Effect Sencors for the Collective Stick I need a seperate 5 Volt supply. And the 12 Volt is for the light and fans on the Left Rear Wall (See picture).. -

KA-50 Pitbuilding Update - 2. november 2008 - New Yaw Pedals Just some pics of the Yaw Pedals with the new Alu Fronts.. The Aluminum was cut out from a scrap piece of Engine Cover I got from a friend of mine.. I have no idea what it's actually for.. -

CNC Mill Update - 2. november 2008 Finally found the right belt-drives for the X and Y Axis Steppers: And made the new Zero-Backlash nuts. I discarded the original threaded rods that was supplied with the XY-Table. mainly because I have no idea what the climb in the threads is, and also I wanted an 8mm axle not 10mm like it was originally. But most important was the fact that the original nuts had no way to remove the play that wear and tear innevetably wil make as time goes by.. So I made my own: -

Phuuuh..! Hold your horses mate..! Maybe.. and only MAYBE after I have have completed my own. And so far it looks like the whole cockpit timeline ends in a year or two.. Where are my fellow countrymens and pitbuilders place of gathering.? I'd really like to get in touch with you guys.? Ps. Tusen takk.. (rødmer litt) CAT..!? Where have you been my friend..? Well ...? I have read through and think I get your point..? But it would be much easyer if you posted a scetch or something? 'Cause I'm only almost sure I get it.? Thank god for you Urze..! You do actually have a really good point with the Ka-50 using a combined torque-yaw and yaw-rudder..! And with this it would require the abillity to add some "foot-power" from time to time..? I was actually about to alter the drawings for my pedals:music_whistling:, and you stopped me just in time..! Thank you.. :) -

Well I have already made one attempt on building the HUD.. And scratched it..! Since I'm building it out of 3mm plastic foam sheets I need to make structuraly more rigid.. But first I have to complete the drawings.. It's at times like this I really see the workmanship you put in to make your HUD as PERFECT as it is mate.. May hat of for you:thumbup:
