Hey Mav, can you guys host a test session with GCI? Maybe you can gather info on performance for later operations. -

Having problems with engines/recovery
Jester Darrak replied to Worrazen's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
About engines flaming/stalling out: be gentle on forward stick pressure as it might bring your aircraft into an almost unrecoverable flat spin (even if you survive the g-loc/red out). Negative g are most likely the reasons of your engines going out so better roll and pull instead of just pushing the stick forward. Plus, are you experiencing this in multiplayer or singleplayer only? If SP then check your realism settings as you might have a bird strike or random system/mechanical failure. -

As for missile employment tactics you need to stip thinking that every missile has to kill a target with you going home with 10 kills. Missiles, be it heatseekers or radar guided, are tools that help you bring down an enemy. Sometimes you fire all of them and get either one or even no kill. At the very first missiles act as a deterrent, forcing your opponent to react to the threat. He can run, keep flying into it and die or try to defeat it and re-engage. But whatever he does, you should monitor his actions but also keep an eye on your surroundings. Try to pick a target of opportunity instead of jumping on everything that pops up. 2-ship inbound? Fire an ER at the first target, wait a few seconds, fire an ET on his buddy and the re-quire the first one to fire another ER at him. While you do this be sure to keep snaking to keep them as far away as possible and bleed the energy of their missiles. The first bandit with ER at him will try to defeat it while maneuvering but also could've shot at you. His buddy will keep pressing on you but has an ET at him. Fired at the right distance he won't see it coming and die without further notice. Since th ET is fire and forget you can keep your radar focused on the first one for the second ER shot. Tactics and situational awareness are what make the difference. If you are outnumbered, try to keep everyone else but the toughest target (the one that jumps on you) at bay and you might even win a fight against 3. Just keep in mind that missiles are your tool to make the enemy do what you want while lining up for the kill. When I go flying I expect to kill 2 targets with my F-15 -tops. But sometimes I rearm and refuel twice without shooting down anything.

Confirmed, I was marked as 51P Soviet leading northern group. And at around 1:30 I shot down what seemed to be =RvE=ATraF but actually was a bandit. -

Flying 6 hours back to back in high intensity competitive environment will give the blue coalition a major advantage in the final battle. And although every options has its pros and cons I'll go with 2 and 3. First one is a no-go for me. -
After reading a lot about this lately me thinks that is either a invincible bug or some kind of balance related design decision. If you take the history of DCS that started with Su-27 Flanker as a singleplayer title it could have been a bug since the first days. But while evolving into a vast multiplayer sandbox title it could have been, even since the introduction of CA, a design decision to just keep the player at bay when entering SAM infested areas and leaving the deadly 'n dirty tactics to the players themselves. If not, it is just an excuse. ED may feel free to use it as they wish. :)

Air is a gas and thus a compressable medium. When you intiate the flare maneuver pressure needs to build up to the point it carries or in this case slow the aircraft down. Usually it takes around 1 to 2 seconds until flare is at maximum effect. Timing is everything as the effect degenerates quickly as soon as it reaches it's peak.
-
It's all in the bullseye. Compare your own reference to it with the one from your wingman. You then should be able to draw an imaginary picture which gives you a chance to match course (one of you flying 180, the other one 270 for example). Then try to match altitude and once you think you are close one should Pop a flare to odentify visually.

So all in all the thesis still stands that only the Hornet is an all-in-one package where every aircraft (in the US inventory) is able to perform a multitude of missions including SEAD, CAP, CAS, Strike etc just depending on aircrew/squadron training instead of avionics as it is with the F-16, at least regarding the SEAD feature as there is special Software needed?
-
I got a question here: Since SEAD is a vital role in modern air (-to-ground) warfare and a big selling point, has the F-16CJ (also known as Block52+) still all the capabilities the regular 50/52 has? As far as I know only the F/A-18C is completely a multirole/multimission capable aircraft since there are so many different Viper Blocks in the USAF and the Charlie Hornwt is kind of an all-in-one package.

Well, it depends on the type of aircraft you're targeting. A russian plane/rwr will give a little more info on how far away the source is, so yes, he could just ignore me. But we're not talking RL situations here. Plus I'm also a huge fan of flood mode and the AIM-7, so my approach on things might be different than others. ;)
-
It's a little of a rush to say "just" use TWS. Every mode has it's advantages and is useful in may ways. With STT you can spook a bandit that's going for a friendly, especially if your position is not known to the enemy. All you need to know is how each mode works, what effect it might have on a target. Use that to plan your approach on different situations. Sometimes, when flying the 15 I'm getting locked up as soon as I'm wheels up which is annoying and somewhat frightening. Knowing there is someone tracking every one of your steps can make it hard to clear your mind for other things.

can't fly Mig-29s in multiplayer, unengaged?
Jester Darrak replied to fitness88's topic in Multiplayer
Ok, that migjt explain something. You should know most people here are assuming you're running DCS vanilla. If not you should mention it the next time. Or better: if there ever is a problem again FIRST try to run DCS clean without any mods/JSGME. Mods are making trouble, no matter how well maintained/patched they are. ;-) -
can't fly Mig-29s in multiplayer, unengaged?
Jester Darrak replied to fitness88's topic in Multiplayer
@fitness88 Give it some time. When I join a server it sometimes takes up to a minute to show the aircraft selection screen. First you see is the F11 view followed by the F10 map. Once it's done loading you're in the aircraft selectiom screen. Chose your aircraft, then click briefing and finally cluck fly. @Timka01 Su-33 and MiG-29 are part of Flaming Cliffs 3. Go into your download manager once DCS started and install FC3. You can then join a server and select FC3 aircraft. Or try quick missions, select FC3 and then your desired aircraft. -
can't fly Mig-29s in multiplayer, unengaged?
Jester Darrak replied to fitness88's topic in Multiplayer
Unengaged means "Slot not taken. Go ahead and grab it!". You actually need to join the server to find out if it's working or not. ;-) -
It's all in the budget. Most, if not all armies can't afford different aircraft for each type of role. It all started with the Phantom in Vietnam. First they only strapped iron bombs to it making it a fighter bomber. Then it got the SEAD and reconnaissance role. There is always the misconception that you can load HARMs, PGMs, Sidewinders and Slammers on either a Viper or Hornet and go Jack of all trades. As this is possible, you're still King of nothing. Multirole is just what the aircraft is capable of. The Viper and Hornet can all do such things but every squadron within a wing trains for their assigned role. There are dedicated SEAD, air defence, strike and CAS squadrons within a fighter (bomber) wing that use the same aircraft. But they don't go up arma-style as a special-forces-anti-tank-sniper-pilot. That's what many people don't understand but still want to do. It works theoretically. But no real life force really does it.
