1. Squarely in the XTAL price bracket, so thats most consumers out. 2. Is 210deg horizontal FOV even plausible? 3. Its posted on reddit 4. The review reads like hes been given a big chunk of cash by Star1, zero negatives, every single features is "really good", not much detail. On the one hand, it sounds too good to be true. On the other, at least its price tag matches its claims.

Some interesting information here, recent patents applied for by Valve: https://tylerlindell.com/news/valve-patents-speculation-about-the-index-hmd/ Interesting speculation for the future - brainwave sensors in VR HMD as a control mechanism... displays up to 10,000 x 10,000 But there are other possible, more near-future/present, examples which could be applicable to the Index, like lens systems and SDE mitigating features. Companies often take out patents that they never intend to act upon, these may or may not be linked to the Index, but either way are quite interesting.

Considering the reverb is marketted more towards enterprise, I suspect that the "out of stock" notice is just literal. They have no stock, which is true. Its a bit clumsy, but I doubt "we" have been at the receiving end of most of their marketting efforts. I bet most reverb sales will be in bulk, which I think has informed some of their design decisions.

eBay, sorry I wasnt clear was I :music_whistling:

lol no I just meant that its a review with mistakes in it and its funny (sorta) that its the one that everyone is reading! In other fun news, I shifted my Vive pro on eBay as soon as news of the Index landed, and now Im just watching prices drop steadily, and the few sad sacks who are still listing them at near retail price.

Im just saying, with the magical energy performance of the M2000 and its terrible, terrible missiles...if they dont get Harrier 100% right, its over for RAZBAM, for me.
-
lol that review is the top trending one on google for either headset... I dont think the review is garbage, but once you get one thing wrong...but I bet thats been hashed out to death already. ...mind you, people seem to get the names of various sets wrong quite often, even on this forum! Interesting that you guys have pre-ordered reverbs. Anyone know if it is available in the UK or not? I cant seem to find where it is being sold/reserved. Not going for it at this time, just interested. If its not going to be sold here, I can stop stressing about the decision.

Even though Im not leaning towards the reverb, I doubt the mura will be that much of an issue. I have an older monitor with terrible mura (displaying pure black, it looks like a view into dimly lit fog) but thats about the only time you actually notice it without specifically looking for it. Care to clarify? Reviewers opinion of the reverb is fairly cut and dry.

What is software IPD worth though? If its not altering lens geometry in relation to eye geometry, its only doing half the job. The annoying thing is, the displays on the reverb would be a shoe-in with physical IPD, but for non-average people considering the reverb, it turns the excellent, advanced displays into a head-scratcher instead of a no-brainer.

Some interesting discussion including the Index, Reverb and others here, in a Sim-Racing context, which I judge to have similar needs to ours: Keys points: Not everyone thinks the higher res on the reverb is an instant choice On the other hand, it is probably considered the most reliable choice, in that high res is a dead-cert bonus, whereas finicky things like pixel fill, refresh rate and lens geometry have to be seen really, to know for sure how much they add. They talk alot about FPS halving (120Hz to 60Hz vs 90Hz to 45Hz) if you cant push enough frames. The Index's 144Hz "experimental" mode could enable a 72Hz mode, actually increasing options for less high-end users. Mention of "gestalt" of components rather than leaning on one very good feature (it seems to me, at least, that the Index is a more complete package, even if it loses the resolution competition) Lighthouse tracking more respected than inside-out Valve more respected to know what gamers need (Reverb *is* marketed more towards enterprise customers) Pimax 5+ has excellent resolution but is not talked about in terms of being the best of the best Nobody is talking about the "expandability" of the Index, that front port. Is anyone here expecting much from that area? As a personal note, I've heard almost nothing about the Reverb audio, and the headphones look extremely generic. Whereas the audio on the Index is a major selling point. You can probably tell Im kinda instinctively leaning towards the Index at this point. Also cooler name. Just found out about XTAL. Jesus...

Tell you waht guys, if we all chip in, I can buy a Reverb and an Index and Ill write an in depth comparison. Deal?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

The display tech in the Index has a physical pixel layout that physically does not have as much dead space, significantly reducing SDE. This has the added bonus of also enhancing "percieved" resolution as the pixel layout more reliably produces clear lines. Apparently anyway. I looked up a couple of examples of "pentile" OLED (Vive et al) vs LCD (Index), that were unrelated to these particular headsets. In the OLED image, you could easily recognise the SDE as what you see in the Vives, in the LCD example it was much reduced. Here: (if you de-magnify the image a bit, you will see the SDE "jump out" on the left part of the image. Either way, both are the same resolution, but the LCD gives improved clarity.) Vive et al do *not* have RGB screens, they are GB/GR screens (pixels alternate between GB and GR) this is why the SDE is so pronounced. I dont know what display tech the Reverb uses.

I can add that even with the decent resolution of the vive pro, I could still commonly see fresnel-artifacts, and deeper towards the center than just peripheral vision. I get the feeling that that optics in the Vive are responsible for some of the difficulty in reading instruments - hence the popularity of lens mods. *edit* After a bit of googling... Oh, so reverb has inside-out, 2 camera tracking? Score one for the Index. Outside-in is going to be the highest fidelity tracking for a while yet, and the Index base stations are quite improved over current lighthouses. Tracks controllers only in your FOV? Score 2 for Index. Visible "mura" (uneven backlighting) in the display? Not great. Apparently about equivalent to a SDE. Fixed IPD. Really not great. Fresnel lenses about on par with the Vive. Meh. At this time, my opinion is that the increased res is great, but its going to severely affect FPS, and with the above Im still leaning towards investing in the Index system. It certainly has the most advanced controllers available (not really applicable to DCS, but DCS is not the only VR app).

The Index beats the Vive Pro - which I used to have - on all counts, across the board. At least on paper. And it sounds like the Index counters SDE with more than just a filter screen. Although - stupid me - I just rememberd that I *havnt* actually dropped any money on an Index yet, I've only pre-ordered, of course  Is the general consensus that the Reverb is going to be the top of the range?
-
So it seems like the reverb with its higher res is a market-killer. On paper, should blow all competitors out of the water. But I've just dropped a chunk on an Index. Does the Index have any advantages over the reverb? Have I made the wrong call?

1. You disagree with the early access model. I agree, it sucks, I've learned my early-access lesson, but dude, nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to buy in early access. I bought this module fully knowing that it still wouldnt be "released" for maybe another year, maybe two. You have been offered the chance to play in-progress versions of the software as it is developed. 2. Im....pretty sure they do. Software development is just not how you think it is. The bugs arent there because the developers think the software is perfect. Its not in early access because the software is perfect. You've bought and paid for an incomplete game in development, thats all. What you've got is a piece of software infinitely more capable than no software, a year or more before you would normally see it.

Hmmm...doesnt dogfighting at 100kts @100ft go against all known tenets of AA combat? Low + Slow = Sitting Duck, except if other guy is also low + slow Is it a figment of an imperfect sim? (not a criticism, all sims are by definition imperfect) Or a figment of amateur pilots? (against, not a criticism, how many of us have flown fast jets professionally?) Or is it just how it works in practice? (textbooks not always directly transferrable to RL)

The only other thing I can think of is - check your keyboard functionality. My keyboard is on the fritz and a few keys work intermittently. If your CTRL key is doing this it might cause what you are seeing? Long shot.
-
Apologies if this is a silly question - but have you tried the "re-center view" button (keypad 5) that you would normally use in 2D to recenter the view? I had a similar issue in that I was having a problem getting the centre of my VR space to be reliably in the same position (I think I need to optimise my base station layout) but KP5 put me in the seat every time.

The most retarded portrayal of Harriers in popular culture.

Pales into insignificance against the portrayal of the F35 in Die Hard 4 -
Why does AV-8B has two less weapon stations then GR9?
p1t1o replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in AV-8B N/A
On top of that, the rails on the outrigger on the GR9 incorporated countermeasure pods into them. But the answer really is just - the GR9 and the AV8B are completely different "builds" of the harrier, built for different customers. Really short answer? The GR9 is/was one of the latest models of harrier, and thus one of the most advanced, mature and well equipped. You can bet that if an aircraft is being simmed, its several generations behind state of the art. The amount of detail necessary to properly sim an aircraft to the detail we are used to means that in-service (or recently in service) aircraft are almost out of the question due to things being classified. -
2xfuel, 1x RN24 Approaching at 30ish kft, run in at 600kts, 4g pull up, release at 45 degrees pitch, wing-over and egress away from target area at max speed, maintain height. Weapon tops out at 45ish kft and impacts roughly 10nm from release point. MiG21 is roughly 25nm from point of impact at detonation. Aircraft survived, but my engine did stop for some reason, I could have oversped but it was almost exactly on detonation. nuketrack.trk

I actually cannot confirm that I havn't, annoying no? But thats life :music_whistling: Rather than add to the chorus of "its brooooken" I have been taking a different tack, you?
-
Well this is easily explained, but its no help. DCS have made it known that they will not ever include nuclear weapons in DCS. The MiG21 devs shoehorned in this weapon as a simulation-within-a-simulation as an illustrative, low-fidelity, tool. More for curiosity and completeness than fidelity. So DCS does not (cannot?) simulate shockwaves or EMP or Mach effect etc. So it causes insta death within a radius instead. Its not a bug, its just that nukes are not supported by the engine and this is an intentionally incomplete feature, I doubt a fix will be forthcoming. Personally Im glad to have them rather than not, if only to have a reason for certain tactics. There is also a lack of a timed delay on the detonation - which certainly would be a feature on these weapons as they are rated for release down to 500m, and certainly western "lay-down" weapons did. Pretend that the EMP is trashing your plane, early aircraft like this unlikely to be specially "hardened" (though I have no data here). *** I swear to god I escaped both types before, havnt flown the 21 in a while, Ill try some more testing. I hope so because in that video the bomb is again following you...quite fast I saw that max seperation in the vid was about 16km? What has been your best max seperation that you have achieved, do you know? Im intrigued now, I'll see if I can come up with anything, just getting back into DCS after a long hiatus. (man, I am SO over "early access")

I've been away a long time and the radar is still bugged? I've got all of the respect and sympathy for developers in the world but its been a long time and this is supposed to be a serious, HiFi sim. Is it just a case that "The M2000 modules is the "fun" one, not for frontline use."? I am dissappoint. *** tl;dr - work stopped or no?
