DCS vectors for motion simulators
TripRodriguez replied to vJaBoG32's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I will do that, but also it might be a really good idea to try out the free trial version of Ian's BFF software. -
DCS vectors for motion simulators
TripRodriguez replied to vJaBoG32's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm pretty sure doing a pirouette will just cause the platform to: 1- yaw in the direction I begin turning 2- stay in the right yawed position or washout during the rest of the turn depending on settings 3- slightly aw in the opposite direction of the turn as the turn is stopped I can give you the export.lua when I get to my gaming rig late tonight, but I'm pretty sure you will find this is a function of the motion sim software. I use Ian's Built For Fun 6DOF as it's generally considered the best one available for flight sims. -

I'm using all 6 DOF. I think it feels pretty good but ignorance is bliss! -
Dimebug Free stencil A-10C cocpkit project
TripRodriguez replied to dimebug's topic in Home Cockpits
Hey guys, I just wanted to post a thank you for DimeBug and let you know there is now one more Dimebug A-10C console in the world. So far it's just the left console, but I'm definitely going to assemble the right side as well and probably the front one but not right away. Mine is crafted from 1/2" thick PVC sheet and will be one of the numerous swappable modular sections for my motion sim cockpit. -
There it is. @X-Ray let me know if you want me to remove this from your thread, as I can understand if you do. I'll have a Gazelle sim pit thread later, but not starting it until I've got more to show. I have to say even though it has many more imperfections than I hoped, overall it looks better than I expected somehow. This is for a VR pit so the instruments are static images. All switches etc. will be fully functional.

I was thinking that might be the case myself, but wasn't sure.

When you are ready to get motion working please check out Thanos motion sim electronics. This guy has a fantastic product and customer service. http://motionsim.freeforums.net/ http://motionsim.blogspot.com/

I don't think anyone was suggesting actually building such a machine. The only application would be air show stunt stuff. I'm just saying it's probably not physically impossible.
-
That's fast work! Keep up the great work.

Well we have plenty of RC helis flying inverted to more or less prove it is possible. Not that this means absolutely that we could build a full scale heli capable of the same thing, it doesn't always work that way.

DCS vectors for motion simulators
TripRodriguez replied to vJaBoG32's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@Paddyman I'm not familiar with commercial motion sims, but I'm pretty confident you could just run your SimXperience rig on Ians BFF software (paid), SimTools (Free for v1), or X-sim (free) software and all three of those already have DCS support ready to go. I doubt that SimXperience made it impossible to run their hardware on different software. How many DOF is your rig? -
Are you actually getting all of this done this fast or are you posting a backlog of work you already did? This seems to be coming along awful quick by my standards!

Can anyone fix my HOTAS ?
TripRodriguez replied to swimbody's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Swimbody , I want it. Just have to figure a price. I've got three collectives and several throttles yet to build for my modular SIM rig. -
DCS vectors for motion simulators
TripRodriguez replied to vJaBoG32's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok guys, It makes me VERY VERY happy to hear that you got the devs on board with making motion sim support better! I've got a 6DOF Stewart rig (seen in my sig) and I'm very interested in any improvements we can get the devs to make. I do have a problem though, I can't follow most of the conversation in this thread. Severe ADD and lack of education are the problem here. Also my RL flight experience is minimal. About three hours of passenger flight in helicopters, thirty minutes of stick time in gliders with an instructor, and a handful of airline flights. If any of those here who really understands this stuff want to work with me to get my motion sim working as best it can in DCS I would be happy to work with you. I can do voice comms, live streaming, etc. Also anyone willing to help who is within a reasonable drive of Scranton Pennyslvania, USA is welcome to come visit and play. =D Please note, the video in my sig is one of my first DCS flights. Improvements have been made and more are in the works but I'm kinda flying half blind here trying to guess when it comes to tuning. Also, all the talk I've seen here has been about SimTools and X-sim. I run Ian's BFF 6DOF motion software and a Thanos AMC1280USB. I'd try switching over if there is a better option for DCS. So far I've been told BFF is best for Stewart flight sims. Ian is also quite good about working with me to fix bugs etc. I was planning to try SimTools 2.0 and was trying to get it running but then was told that there is still no proper 6DOF math plugin available so I gave up fighting with it for the time being. Any and all help appreciated and I'm also eager to help in whatever way I can, testing and such, within my abilities. -
So looking forward to this. A really appropriate environment for my beloved Huey! Now to track down a mod so I don't get yelled at in Russian when I screw up. =P

Has anyone here bought from desktopaviator.com?
TripRodriguez replied to TripRodriguez's topic in Home Cockpits
Since a few people in this thread were very helpful, I thought I'd show off my first bit of photo worthy progress! I fly 100% in VR so the gauges etc. are not functional, just flat images. All switches and rotaries will be functional. Don't mind the missing "O", it will be replaced LOL. -
Hey guys, since there are apparently some Thud fans here I thought I'd show this off, and also tell you guys that you have made me feel a bit better about this model. My father had this given to him by a friend a few years ago, apparently these were given to pilots who qualified on the F-105 by Republic. It's solid aluminum I'd estimate about 18" long and despite a little wear it is gorgeous. Though dad was US Army Air Force this particular aircraft had no special significance to us. Dad was in the very first graduating class of techs qualified to work on the F-80 though! We looked the ThunderChief up and were a little disappointed about it's reputation, but this thread has helped redeem it in our eyes. Dad cleverly mounted it on a wood dowel colored up a bit to look like afterburner exhaust, but I believe he does have the original aluminum desk stand for it as well. Sorry for the lousy pic, I just ran out to the living room and snapped it on my phone.

I very well be misinformed, but I was told that what was done in that video was fixed some time ago. Still hilarious!
-
That quote to me begs the question due to the wording: What about with SAS fitted? I don't think there is any question that DCS fans want the aircraft to behave as realistically as can be reasonably expected. There are certainly plenty of DCS modules that have hit this mark, and proven that it is possible to satisfy us so that argument is irrelevant. Either the SAS/AP in the SA-342 make it fly weird (we need a real pilot to tell us if that is the case) or PC have some work to do. @BigNewy 's comments seem to imply that it's been acknowledged that the Flight Model still needs work so now all we can really do is try to help gather information that will help PC satisfy us once they end the comms blackout.

Today I finally finished my main panel for the Gazelle cockpit, I can post a pic if you want @Xray20 . Keep in mind, my cockpit too is for VR so the instruments are not functional, just flat images. All switches, buttons, and rotaries will be fully functional.
-
@xray20 Do you have contact info for one or more of the Gazelle pilots you spoke with? Specifically we need one familiar with the SA-342 (not SA-341) to hopefully answer some questions. I'm not sure if you saw but there is once again a big thread going on the DCS Gazelle flight model. I wonder if we might be able to condense the contents of those threads to a handful of concise questions and send them to a real SA-342 pilot for answers, what do you think? I should have thought of this before the event and sent you with the questions in hand!
-
I do believe that is one of the major items that has been raised @FragBum . There have been arguments that it's possible the Gazelle really does behave this strangely (by helicopter standards) due to it's flight control systems but the majority of folks aren't buying it. @BigNewy has said on MANY occasions that we can expect PolyChop to improve the flight model so I take that as confirmation that the devs are aware that the FM needs attention. That's good enough for me. I think the rest is largely frustration with PC being incommunicado for so long due to their "internal legal issues". If the PC devs were here participating in the discussions we would feel a lot better.
-
Don't need any test. I'm what I call an immersion gamer. This is why I'm all about VR. Doing things I could never afford or aren't possible in real life and making it as realistic as possible. When I was a kid I wanted to be a fighter or combat helicopter pilot (or a space fighter pilot!). Now thanks to DCS and Star Citizen I'm all of those. Oh and I'm a rally car driver too!

This might sound odd, but I'm excited to hear the almost universally loved Huey once had an unsatisfactory flight model. I'm a new member of the community and it was already great when I got here!

F-15C Dynamic Campaign: Screaming Eagle
TripRodriguez replied to MBot's topic in User Created Missions General
I second this! I want more good quality campaigns for DCS more than I want more aircraft or maps. I am hoping for the community to make lots of campaigns for Normandy (and not just WWII), since I do like my pretty graphics.
