[MOD] North Korea '50 Ground Units
vicx replied to Lilkiki's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The Sound Effects API in DCS 1.5 is more powerful but adding sounds to ground vehicles has become more challenging. It won't be as easy to add vehicles with sound as it has been in the past; but people will learn. This is conclusion looking at the LUA code for vechicles and weapons in DCS World OpenBeta\Sounds\Sounders -
Chivas, I can understand there will be a challenge with roomscale but I think it will be the superior experience. I have learned one thing from trying to simulate roomscale with the DK2; I will only be buying a HMD that has MUCH better tracking than a DK2. The DK2 can only just track a fighter cockpit properly and it can only do about 2.5m-3m straight down the lens. I have made a few recordings now and I have had to use a lot of tricks to get the shots. Here is a similar video to the last one. I made this one with the AI Chinook. Like I said, I have to move the camera to get these shots because the DK2 doesn't track very well. Still it should give a good idea. I'm going to upload one more video taken 'Point of View' on the Ticonderoga class ship under attack from some Tu-22M3 anti-ship bombers. It turned out cooler than I exepected. I will probably make another video 'Point of View' on an OHP class vessel in the future. Also planned is a roomscale demo in the Mi-8. I want to simulate a cargo slingload operation. I want to see if a person in VR can hangout the sidedoor and give directions on the intercom.

This is a recording I made in DCS VR mode to show how cool it might be to walk around your aircraft. Vive might work better, but you would still need a lot of room. If you can fit a fighter jet into one of the rooms in your house ... you should be fine.
-
This is why I am interested roomscale VR. The DK2 is great but it is disappointing that it can't track your head 360 degress and the tracking volume is not that big. This is a recording I made in DCS VR mode to show how cool it might be to walk around your aircraft.

I noticed the Bradley is the only ground vehicle in DCS that has an LWS specified in it's unit definition. Unless it is a typo. GT.sensor.laser = true might allow it to disperse when it detects a laser.

Worked for me. Thanks.

This is covered in a BUG thread in the DCS 1.5 BETA section. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=151041 I haven't tested the reported solution yet.

Distant ground aircraft lights flickering/inconsistent
vicx replied to OttoPus's topic in Object Bugs
DCS A10-C pilots have a near perfect module which is extremely polished and complete. I think it means that they don't really have a lot to focus their attention on in terms of bugs. I'm not saying DCS A10-C fliers are spoiled ... :noexpression: but I do I agree with the OP; these lights are not perfect and awesome. -
Ground equipment is something I think is officially coming for a few modules. The C-101 has a ground power prop that appears when you need it. Still I think you should tackle some objects yourself. I'd be interested in the results. I know some people just want to fly the aircraft in DCS but I like how DCS makes a nice viewer for 1:1 scale model virtual aircraft. With a VR HMD this side of DCS becomes even better. It is great being able to go into external view in VR and just look at stuff. Of course the next step is being able to walk around a little bit. My personal preference would be for ammunition so you can lay it all out as you see in photos from arms trade shows. I know eventually all the aircraft will get their ground equipment ... but who is going to make DCS:Arms Dealer models so I can lay out my virtual arsenal :gun_smilie:

Been playing a bit with VR mode outside of the cockpit. I'm experimenting with external views that offer cool (Point of View) shots in VR. In VR some of the naval units, ground units and aircraft on the ground seem like they would make really interesting environments to move around. The more I play around with this the more I want to be able to move around a lot more without losing tracking. I realise the Rift is not ideal for this but I have mine set up high on a tripod looking down so that I have the widest possible tracking space. I can stand up naturally and almost turn 360 and take a step or two in each direction. Just having a taste of this make me very interested to see what the Vive can offer in DCS in this area. Will post some DK2 videos soon to show what I'm on about.

I making some videos of unusual views of DCS using CA and VR. It will show perspectives not usually seen in DCS. VR is a revolution ... there is no doubt.

[REPORTED]Oculus View Reset No Longer Works (Hotfix 3)
vicx replied to Deano87's topic in General Bugs
Deano87, I've just found the time to test this with my DK2. It's the same story for me with DCS 1.5 Hotfix3. No view reset for VR mode unless you use existing bind "5". Tested: Mi-8 Combined Arms I noticed with Hotfix3 that it looks like there is now only one set of controls for VIEWS which is common for all modules. I'm pretty sure this is a arrangement. -
[REPORTED]Oculus View Reset No Longer Works (Hotfix 3)
vicx replied to Deano87's topic in General Bugs
Well this looks like a more informative report of your problems. It is a good practice to include as much detail in your bug report as possible. What module are you playing when this happens? Which control menu is the button setup in? Is the key are are using unbound in every other context. Are your running any mods? Are you running any keyboard macro tools or utilities? Take screenshots and post them ... you might be missing something really unusually that someone will spot in a screenshot. Good luck. Finding bugs is frustrating. -
I dunno guys. You do know that the Blur and Bokeh feature in DCS 1.5 BETA, ONLY works in EXTERNAL view. External view doesn't have to be realistic ... it just has to look cool. You don't actually get any blur or bokeh when you are in the cockpit. Some of you guys comment like you never tried it so you don't know, this is how it works.

Parts of the CA HUD system are broken in VR mode. Appears that ED coupled the HUD to the view in CA. Now that VR mode decouples the view it breaks. Probably also the reason that TrackIR was always disabled in CA. Screenshots taken in VR mode. Side note: As someone interested in creating Combined Arms HUDs and mods it would be nice if the CA HUDS worked in a similar fashion to the aircraft HUDs and MFDs.

If you had to choose; multi screens or oculus rift.
vicx replied to Goos3neK's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have had the same experience as hansangb. The mouse is easy to find and use in VR so I haven't even thought about it ... using the in game cockpit switches is quite easy. Using the keyboard has proven to be much more of a problem. I am testing mods and missions and I have to use the keyboard to change views and and turn certain settings on and off as part of testing. I always have to lift the HMD off a little to find the right keys. Mouse is  ... Keyboard is :( -
This thread is in danger of filling up with low quality information and you are not helping things. If you knew how the Rift works you could not seriously suggest this. I HAVE used and documented my use of the RIFT as a simple Headtracker (aka a TrackIR) using my monitor instead of the HMD BUT this was only worth doing months ago because VR mode in DCS 1.2.xx was not very good and there was no Directmode. Now that we have DCS 1.5 BETA VR mode with Directmode rendering (and MANY other improvements) using the HMD has become more than usable. Even if someone wanted to test your idea they can't because Opentrack does not have a build for the 0.7 Oculus Rift DK2 Runtime. Your idea is impossible to test and bad.
-
You won't be able to use it with DCS. That's the main problem.
-
A great DCS focused report. I agree that VR gives CA so much more potential. This was even my thought when using the Rift. I have always had my Rift Camera on a tripod instead of sitting on my monitor so I have always been trying to make work in roomscale even though ... it's not very suited to that. I am working on some DCS mods for CA that should make for good VR experiences. One thing holding me back at the moment is working out how to make the CA HUD system do what I want it to do. I haven't gotten a Kneeboard or Cargo Cam type surface working yet and those are things that need to work to make the VR experience happen with CA. If anyone has gotten these things to work .. PM me.
-
Yep I do own and use the Rift and I already agreed with you ... Maybe you could make mod that puts the VR head in the right place ... but I think it's problematic because people are different sizes and heights and in VR that actually matters. Letting people adjust head pos themselves till it feels right ... will probably work best. I think we could suggest that to ED and give our reasons.
-
I have not bothered to post it because it only works if the tank is defined as a ship (then the tank bobs up and down like it is water). It is not usable until ED add proper damage support to ground units.

NOPE you are wrong. The neck mod was only required because TrackIR does not have proper ABSOLUTE positioning. If this is the mod you mean by Neck Mod http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96116 Go have a read of that page ... Peter explains why he made it. I doubt he would consider it a useful mod for DK2 users. With the Rift DK2 it is simply enough to have the view reset button 'Num5' and to sit properly in your chair :) It is also spelt out in the Rift SDK documentation. Enough with the neck mod. With a DK2 you just use your own neck and shoulders. Another reason why VR is better. NOPE you are wrong. The neck mod was only required because TrackIR does not have proper ABSOLUTE positioning. CA, Unit Destroyed, Switch View To Next Unit In Group
vicx replied to Wrecking Crew's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Nice idea but we really need a list of these specific things. There are enough of them.
