Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
vicx replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
Thanks EMU ... nice channel of Djoker First time I have seen built-in ladder of Su-25 up close in high quality video. Video of ground crew assisting Su-24 pilots to disembark. -
First team to crack 1GB of textures on a single model will be LNS?
-
rrohde ... I can see the appeal of a POV from a pilot on the ground. It would also be great to walk around the aircraft. It is a good idea for a mod. If only head tracking worked for Combined Arms units :noexpression: I could make a unit that would give you a truly virtual view of a light mechanic or pilot on the ground.

[NO BUG]New Smoke Plumes - I love them .... but ..... not for rockets.
vicx replied to Flagrum's topic in Object Bugs
Cmon guys ... you can't compare appearance of rocket smoke from the side with rocket smoke viewed from collinear perspective (from the cockpit). From the side smoke could look very light almost invisible but cumulative smoke trail viewed from behind a launched rocket will look like a cloud. And then when the smoke catches the light ... different again. *rude comment cut* ... show pictures of "like for like" to make your case. Eurofor the rockets are still smoking even when not providing thrust? -
You mean like test something before making a wild claim. We all wish. Gonna PM you xaos.
-
Don't you mean scaled to the size of the monitor? Scaling to the resolution wouldn't do anything. Not on my monitor. What the hell do you have and what are your settings?
-
I'll back this.
-
Would agree with Shags ... this is a non-issue. Consider the poor bastards on laptops ... they don't have much. At least give them some blurry pixels. You can't be the pixel cop without hurting the little guys. If people with big fancy monitors wanna cop a blurry picture to get an easier look at things I wouldn't blame them either. You get old and you get old eyes. Sometimes you should get glasses but you buy a bigger monitor instead. I'm using a 2010 DELL 30" 2560x1600 IPS. I do think it's a little hard to see the dots because they are so little but yeah I probably need glasses. :)

How to fly, fight and have a good time in DCS F-86
vicx replied to Maico249th's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Thanks Maico. Finally trying some A-A in the F-86 now that 1.5 is out. Using this -> The F-86 Dog Fight Training Module Having a bit of fun but way too many spins. The Visibility feature is interesting ... still it doesn't help with initially finding the bad guys. I think missions guarding bombers with Migs intercepting is the obvious way to bring fighters together. The MIGS get GCI assistance and the Sabres just wait for the attack. I wonder if the bombers ever had radar sets in them that could detect incoming fighters? -
I have a GTX 780 I get what is called in "micro stutters". I think it is a VRAM thing. If I use Nvidia Inspector to monitor VRAM usage it shows that I am using ALL 3GB of VRAM ... all the time. I'm also using a HDD rather than an SSD to hold DCS so if I have to stream textures that might be causing some performance issues. Update: Setting texture resolution to LOW improved things. Already had terrain texture set to LOW. Intel i7 3820 (4 cores) | 16GB RAM | GTX780 (3GB) | Saitek x55 | 30" DELL 2560x1600

Button presses don't register to show buttons that are already bound. Joystick button presses take a long time to be registered in the binding menu.

I'm not noticing a lack of geometric detail so I think the LOD settings are fine but it looks like a texture is missing in that the lod model with the black color. You could check in the modelviewer to see if this is an EDM issue.
-
Pretty sure DCS 1.5 is built to support, and requires, Rift 0.7 runtime.
-
It's not a video. It's a 3d scene as far as I know. How much RAM on your videocard?
-
I'll work on Midway/Wake. Realise that a WW2 context would have many more buildings and structures and that even small map will require a lot of work. I have spent the last few months finding a good modelling and texturing workflow for producing EDM models that have high quality. I can only work on non-commercial projects while using a student copy of Max. It would be interesting to see if ED would offer tools to mod team making a free map.

I love how with the "scale realism" guys everything is about making it look right. It's not just that they are flying large models, they are flying them in a very special way which is an art. Watching some videos of the Rusjet Yak-130 pretty much made me a Yak-130 fan.
-
VR for me too. New map editor a close second.
-
You have to have textures set to HIGH or it won't work. It does work. I just can't believe I've never noticed this before. It looks pretty cool from distance but the flame effect has always looked nasty up close or zoomed in.
-
Well it is the best footage I have seen of NTTR so far so I'm almost doing the same.
-
Weta43, that was an intriguing bit of footage showing the buildings with what looked like positional damage. You are making me login into DCS right now to double check that I haven't completely missed something that has been in DCS all along.
-
Only just watched Matt's introduction to M2000 video. The model and textures are amazing. Also did I just imagine that the glass HUD has properly diffracting glass.
-
Well you don't need to downsample to crop an image. If you have a A 20" 1920x1080P monitor and a 40" 3840x2160P monitor sitting on your desk and you take a 9x9 inch square out of each ... what does that square look like? How many pixels are in each square? Do the math. Seriously. Sure what is shown on each square is different. No kidding!!! That's the whole point of my post. And for Sharpe ... if you have a 28" UHD monitor and it works for you ... good for you. MY POST WAS NOT FOR YOU. Use what you like. My post was for people with 1080p 24" monitors who wonder what they may be missing. It uses the best methodology possible to show them.
-
What size is your monitor SharpeXB? I hope you went for a large 4K screen rather than say something at 27" size. FALSE It is NOT impossible at all. For certain combinations of screen you can show a PERFECT crop of a 4K screen on 2K screen. By perfect I mean perfect. Guess what screen sizes they might be? For some people DSR is just a tool they use. I can take perfect 8K screenshots in DCS using DSR or Gedosato. With Gedosato I can theoretically take 16K size screenshots.

Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)
vicx replied to Flаnker's topic in Military and Aviation
Apologise if you have already seen this. I cross-post from the Russian forums because I assume many of you do not go there. It is not necessary to know the language to enjoy this. I had no idea the violence of cannon fire, the blinding light I did not expect. And then you should watch the full episode
