  1. Interesting. I was hoping it was something else but thanks. Thanks Kilo - I have fallen in love with this feature. Great work ED.
  2. I have had a look at it and I have no idea what it does or is meant to do.
  3. I have used the MIST convenience tables in the past because it was convenient :) I never looked into how MIST was making it's Dead and Alive tables. I just assumed Unit.getLife was involved in the co-routine that pruned the tables.
  4. Aint that the truth. And it's too rich for me ... I'm gonna wait a while before I upgrade.
  5. The Hinds. Do you think they are targeting anything or are they just flying a CAS version of Wild Weasel
  6. For all the statements being made in this thread the posts probably need to be a bit more technical. GPUZ is convenient for sharing your video card specs and it doesn't make mistakes or omissions. https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2524/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-8-5/ Sample Output (click the teh camea in the top right corner and upload to free sharing site) Specify what methodology you are using to measure framerate - I would have thought we were all using the DCS fps display but that isn't the case. I am also pretty sure that "some" Nvidia settings can control the way things are rendered for the Rift. Some people say that directmode means Nvidia settings don't matter - but I don't think that is correct. It might be more configurable than you think. If people are using 3rd party tools that overrride defaults this might be especially true. If you are an Nvidia Engineer please feel free to enlighten us on this matter.
  7. Friedrich-4/B that's kind of what it looks like now in DCS with Visbility Normal. This means that ED is doing something right.
  8. Cmon guys ... keep the signal to noise under control. Carabassa and jamison1982 ... I know DCS reports 75fps but I think that just means that the Rift is using Timewarp to add frames using interpolation. You ACTUALLY need to have MORE than 75fps most of the time for VR to be perfectly smooth. I really think you guys should run everything set to LOW and Shadows OFF to see how smooth it should look. Then you can try and make it look pretty. I suspect you are going to need more than GTX970 if you want turn everything to HIGH. Also try Combined Arms in VR if you own it. It is way less demanding than the aircraft cockpits and you don't notice the lack of resolution in the DK2 as much. The VR effect when driving a tank like the T-90 or M1A1 is really impressive.
  9. Welcome, Tenkom. Never mind SharpeXB, he hasn't actually tried the BETA yet. There is another thread already open on this subject and you are welcome to join the discussion there and share your thoughts. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=148231&page=15 DCS 1.5 BETA, "Everything is subject to change"
  10. McDeth and Frusheen it should NOT be jerky at all. If everything is working properly it should be silky smooth all the time. If it is jerky it means you aren't getting enough frames. I know DCS reports 75fps but I think that just means that the Rift is using Timewarp to render the dropped frames which is why translation movements look so janky. You need more than 75fps at all times for VR to be perfectly smooth. I think you guys should run everything set to LOW and Shadows OFF to see what it looks like when it is smooth. mtbikergt78 DSR definately used to work in pre-1.5 DCS but I haven't tried it with 1.5. In DCS 1.2.xx running DSR in VR mode ate into the framerate too much... but it did look great. Also make sure you try Combined Arms. It is less demanding than the aircraft cockpits and it looks great. Recommend the T-90 tank because it has more detailed model than many other units.
  11. Have a peak at the LUA if you want to know more. There is a new directory called DCS World OpenBeta\Sounds\Sounders Personally the first time I noticed improved sound in 1.5 was in Combined Arms ... the turbine engines in the MBTs sound awesome.
  12. Post the old miz and the new miz. I'd like to take a look.
  13. In DCS 1.2xx you could actually go through the tunnel never tried flying through though.
  14. I don't think that's a bad thing. You should have a way to access all groups; alive or dead.
  15. It looks great. I hope they have some 'secret sauce' in their implementation other than a wide FOV. Oculus and HTC have hinted that the first generation of HMDs will have some unique features that will make them better. It could be just talk but we'll see in a few months. It will be interesting to see the teardowns and testing that will show VR teams where the gains really are and what a standard implementation should be.
  16. Now we will have chopper our units over the mountains.
  17. From the Caspian to Northern Syria. Going the long way.

    M2000 vs Mig-21

    Dat negative G dive. Ooooo.
  19. I finally got the DK2 HMD setup properly And jumped in the Su-33 to have a drive. I enjoyed the flying but not so much the combat because (resolution is too low - personal opinion). So I decided to jump into one of the tanks to see how the VR would break. It didn't break ... it just looked awesome. :surprise: Even though the silly gui got in the way a bit the impact of looking around and seeing all the parts of T-90 at arms length was amazing. It just kicks ass. I'm certain that VR didn't work at all for CA in DCS 1.2.xx so I'm sure this is new in 1.5. I'm also working on a mod that will really benefit from this so I'm
  20. So I was looking for reasons why the ground objects have a much larger visibility sprite than aircraft ... and it looks like there has always been visibility scaling in DCS. LODS at 0m, 3000m and 10000m Could be why the ground objects have a larger visibility sprite than aircraft ... boosted in size twice? And yeah there is a funny coincidental scaling with collision models too. Chechens have huuge collision models. Russian soldiers have fat collision models and US M4 solider has collision model smaller than his body. For sure accident of history where the models where first appeared in different versions of Lockon/DCS but grist for conspiracy theory. :)
  21. The bow mounted PKT machine guns aren't controllable by the human player ... they are used by the AI when it is in control of the vehicle. I would love to see a situation where a human can control one weapons station or drive the vehicle and the other stations are occupied by the AI. With the help of AI, tank becomes multi-crew.
  22. Even though my hardware is in the middle of the pack I totally approve of the LNS approach. For flying I turn down the settings but when I want to look at virtual model aircraft I turn the settings to max.
  23. OK Eurofor. My bad. I just watched a whole lot of youtube videos of Russian aircraft firing rockets before I posted that, and now I have NO IDEA what is realistic looking. The more video and photos I look at the less clear it is. I was trying to make that point but I unfairly picked on your post.
  24. Yeah I think this is a good point. When did people just accept that unrealistic zooming was the best idea? For me ZOOMING is not realistic or satisfying. Maybe if you have been playing DCS for years and years it seems natural ... but if you are new to DCS it seems like an odd thing to have in a realistic sim. Some people might think that zooming is a compromise and not a feature that should be cherished. In the bad old days there were no other techniques available for a pixel sampling problem like disappearing planes. Now we have DX11 shaders that can be used in the renderer and it could get to the point where we could actually remove zooming from the game. Maybe in the future there will be Server switches that turn Zooming off ... because it isn't realistic. Maybe it should be an option. Should Server Operators be able to disable zooming and visibility or any other unrealistic feature?
