Before inclusion in ED software the company or its third-party developers must negotiate an agreement with the respective countries for the use of their flag. It would help if Egypt, like so many European and American nations, participated in the National Property Standardization Committee. Much like GNU licensing, this standardizes and most often makes possible the free use of these protected assets in commercial products (but not completely. Defamation is not allowed). I mean that's just the most straight forward answer that comes to mind.

I reckon you're just taking the instruction too literally. You can certainly crank away for as far as the radar's gimbals permit. So long as the target remains locked it remains illuminated. The video's targets are not the kind that require any sort of cranking maneuver, so the pilot simply does without. I have no sources, but to suppose that you couldn't crank in a Mirage 2000 using the 530 is on the unbelievable side of incredible. ;)

AFAIK the brakes are applied to the wheels when the gear lever is in the UP position, which causes the loss of pressure. I've not seen any reason for why the gear lever should be in the NEUT position after being lowered. It was apparently the standard practise for the US 4477th test squadron's Mig-21s, but whether there exists a fundamental reason I'm not certain. Sorry, just a tiny note of information. :)

Whether the M2000C-RDI is a good match in equal dogfighting conditions for the Mig-21 remains to be seen. The Fishbed retains some extreme maneuvering capabilities at low speeds where, I speculate, the M2000's FBW system may serve to restrain its pilot. Personally I can't wait to explore the limitations of the M2000.

This is the most important to me. LN delivered an incredibly well made aircraft that blew everything else out of the sky (pun intended). It's easily the best module I own. If any of the other third-party developers say they're going to make a jet or helicopter from between 1960 to 1990, that doesn't mean anything to me. Maybe I'll buy that module in the future, after reviews are in, and on a sale. For LN however, I can't imagine not buying (preordering) their next modules. :)

Could you fellers perhaps take this discussion to another topic, and stop derailing the current one.
-
There are a few different discussions going here. One is about what spectacular new aircraft LN is giving us next; another is what spectacular new aircraft the community needs. I think we most of all need to populate DCS with aircraft of similar age, role and capability to the Mig-21, so the Flogger, F-4 and F-5 are all favourites of mine. That way we can have servers running that don't feature more modern aircraft, but which still offer all the different styles of play. In fact the best thing I could imagine is a 1970s FC3-style package for the many that are new to DCS (or who do not seek the A-10C/Mig-21 type of fidelity).

Congrats Chimango! Odd behaviour on his part at the end there when you gunned him. Network issues I presume?

Lonewolf for round 3, please. :) Callsign: Jursk Side: RED Aircraft: Mig-21
-
I sure would like both. :) Congrats, by the way!

Very nice! At 2:30 I expected your stores to come off.

That is really nice. :) Congratulations. When you're in that pursuit, you pull a lot on the stick to get a lead for the IR seeker, but then you let go and you drop low again. When repeated over and over, this kind of oscillation will only help you push beyond max AoA when you are in a proper turning dogfight. And it's frustrating, of course, which can make you slip up in other ways. I'd recommend you to practise this well, because the fellow flew pretty straight and shouldn't have caused you any problems. If you feel that your joystick isn't letting you do these sorts of fine changes, the axis tuner in the control options is one way of solving it. Personally I wouldn't dabble with that, and just leave it perfectly linear the way it is. :) A second piece of advice concerns your own survival. You spend a lot of time making sure the fellow goes down. When you add the Mig's patented HereIAm© Afterburner effect, the explosions of missiles in the dogfight, -and- the multiple AA shooting up at your target, I think you could quickly attract a lot of attention. Extend a little bit when you feel he's damaged; he can't maneuver for shit, so you can put your head back on the swivel it's meant to be on and regain (the limited) situational awareness. Ground clutter setting on radar was already mentioned. Incredibly useful. I didn't see that you did an IFF check on him, but I could've missed that.

M-2000C for DCS World by RAZBAM - Available for Pre-Purchase
scaflight replied to MemphisBelle's topic in M-2000
I will definitely wait for all the reviews to come in. If Leatherneck releases a new module, I'll make a prepurchase based on my positive experiences with the Mig-21. Meanwhile I've no experience with Razbam in DCS, so I think I'd recommend caution. :) -
Top sticky. So... Viggen.

Operating in a limited area with obvious topographical features is very handy. A nearby airfield beacon serves to give you decent range estimates, and with heading information to that beacon you can work out the trigonometry of it relatively quickly. In my experience with my friends, this system works slightly more often than it doesn't :) Having knowledge of, and assigning names or codes to, individual valleys sounds almost excessive, but it is exactly what you need when you go to using terrain in an offensive capacity as part of ambushes. Local knowledge is an incredible asset, especially if you want to find each other. Personally I can't rely on visuals outside of 2-3km in the Fishbed, in regards to keeping eyes on wingman and so forth. And in a bait and switch scenario the two of you will operate too far apart to have any hope of eyeing each other. I hope DCS 2 will vastly improve the situation when it comes to spotting.
-
The radar power switch has three selections though. I very much like OFF/PREP/ON assignments as they are, since I can manually turn it off and then jump between PREP and ON during fighting. Certainly wouldn't think to jump from ON to OFF all the time, I think that'd be unrealistic. IR-SAR is one of few two-select switches that are crucial in dogfighting. I wouldn't tamper with that switch personally. My head is moving everywhere when in a merge, and I don't realistically expect a chance to verify its position whilst maneuvering and looking for cues.
-
It's fairly evident OP seeks someone to fly with and learn from. That's valuable in a way that reading and watching videos isn't, of course. And in many ways it's a far better way to play on MP servers. Having a wingman is important and I am 100% sure that very few of the many available tactics are used, simply because people are lonewolfing it. We need to use anything we can to lure an F-15 down from his 35k ft safety, and baiting is a very sound method. The SA doesn't get any worse by having more people, that's for sure.

Hi, 51 Blade This is very good news. If you achieve a good level of fidelity and good visuals, then I am certainly going to support your efforts with a purchase. Having said that, I've worked on mods for other games myself as part of larger groups, and I know about the pressures that exist. I hope you take your time, that you plan far ahead and that you aim at realistic goals from an early point. :)

This is my take on the included theater: Lofoten, Norway. Plus minus a bit of rotation of the map. This way, the three largest airports close to that region are included, all with current or cold war military presence: Bodø ENBO, 9200ft (from which U2s flew); Evenes ENEV, 9200ft; Andøya ENAN, 8000ft and 5500ft. You'd potentially also get the far smaller regional ones as well: Svolvær ENSH (2500), Stokmarknes ENSK (2900), the incredible Røst ENRS (2600), Narvik ENNK (2600), and Leknes ENLK (2600). Most importantly, you'd have a lot of space for CVs. The region spans the expected hold-off line between Soviet and NATO forces and is therefore a perfect fit for any cold war scenario.

Since Cobra said oceany, cold, and in another comment said substantial amounts of land, I am pretty certain that we're talking the Norwegian Sea, border to the Barents Sea. :) It seems very natural that the devs (Swede as Cobra is) will want to make something Nordic. The landscape is wonderful (I've lived there and can attest to this). Carrier battle groups hiding in the radar shadow of the Lofoten islands provides an excellent potential for Tomcat action. And since one of the unannounced aircraft is -probably- a Viggen, the Nordic scenery gives a good (the only realistic) location for it.

That's when you put in chat: FISHBED PD, DROP YOUR WEAPONS
-
But then none of them relied on teamwork *cough cough* (I was with Taylor and scored 2 F-15s, one with R-60M, one guns). And apart from Matt in his F-15 over the mountains to the NE they were very demonstrably not used to maneuvering in a dogfight at all. Edit: ANd we were blue coalition, which gets awacs picture.

And you didn't go on Skype to let me know. You bastard.

Very nice! I feel I must remark on some things, but my knowledge is limited so feel free to criticise. Assuming that is you: You wait an awful long time with firing the R3s when the bogey is coming straight for. The distance pippers aren't a terribly important measure, so long as they're headed into the center at a fast enough rate. Also, you place the target always a bit above crosshairs. I think you should ideally head straight onto it unless there's any chance of the target diving to use ground clutter, especially since it aids with acquiring a visual. Tossing the nose up before firing should afford the missile a bit more energy, so aiming constantly below the enemy seems like it'll often sap a bit of the edge from you. I could be wrong on all accounts.
