The one component of multi-core CPU support that hasn't been addressed is mission hosting or dedicated servers. I completely understand why DX11 and multi-GPU support is the real issue for graphics performance. However, in my experience with mission hosting, the CPU appears to be where taxation takes place. (e.g. number of units, units spawning, unit actions, etc). I have certainly maxed out the performance of my CPU on my DS hardware with large missions. Again, I'm talking large missions here. I'm very interested in how DCS' Dedicated Server (an announced capability for DCS 2) will address this. If the calc for mission units is moving to be handled by GPUs, great. I just haven't heard anything addressing this at all.

Because I didn't create Op Godfinger; a mission I've replayed more times then I can count. Ask Turbohog ;)
-
Soon, enough JG4_Sputnik ;) I can assure you plans were underway for that. Next episode, which is about Mission design should be out within the next day or so. I was away for vacation, but the episode pace should pick up pretty quickly for the next 4 or 5 episodes.

I wholeheartedly agree, the variables are numerous. I agree so much, that I'll edit my post to include the fact that my proposed "solution" should only be used as a last resort. Even I myself did not need half of those steps to stabilize. I hope you (and anyone else) reading this doesn't assume I'm suggesting that my steps are the only proper way to install Aries.

Hey everyone, just a heads up: I'm currently in the process of switching podcast hosts to a more professional site. Hopefully this is seamless and you see no interruptions. Thanks for continuing to listen!

@Towsim - I was able to resolve the remaining Teamspeak crashing issues for the other members. Also, this includes the minor but annoying issue where the export.lua isn't detected using the TS3 menu. The two previous members who were having problems are now working (without the new DLL). ***NOTE: These steps should be followed as a last resort, if you've tried everything and can't get Aries to work*** Below is instructions for what I did, and hopefully it saves Towsim and team some headaches if folks do the following first. I am not going to explain why these steps are important, and if you have a deep understanding of windows, some won't be. BUT... if you keep having problems... just follow everything. This is consistently working for the most problematic cases in my group. Steps: Aries Version: 1.970 Beta As we have a tremendous amount of variation within our Operating Systems and configurations, your mileage may vary. But at this point, I'm able to get everyone working by doing the following. DO NOT SKIP STEPS. 1. Uninstall Aries using the Control Panel. (nothing needs to be done before uninstalling. NO NEED to turn off the plugin first in TS) 2. Delete ANY Aries directories you have. Typically found in the following places: a) C:\Program Files\AriesWings\ b) C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\AriesWings (or wherever you have DCS installed) 3. Go to your registry, using run command -> regedit and go here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Wow6432Node. DELETE the AriesWings folder. 4. UNINSTALL Teamspeak. (no need to check delete configuration, leave it alone) 5. Make sure Teamspeak is completely deleted here: C:\Program Files\Teamspeak 3 Client (or wherever you previously installed TS) 6. DELETE your export.lua from c:\users\<your user name>\Saved Games\DCS\Scripts. It will be automatically generated when Aries is reinstalled. NOTE: If you're using Tacview, I also recommend uninstalling tacview, and re-installing once we're done here. You will not lose your ACMI files by uninstalling Tacview. Now that we're clean, do the following 7. **If you have an NVidia card, make sure you have the latest drivers. I'm not going into why this is important, just do it. 8. Re-install TeamSpeak 3.0.16 by RIGHT CLICKING the installer and installing as ADMIN 9. After installation. Right click the Teamspeak shortcut icon, and go to properties, compatibility, and set it to run as admin. Do this for all users as well, as depending on your OS AND settings, TS may run in a different user context. 10. Install Aries by right clicking the setup and running as admin. Follow the install steps, ensuring it's pointing to the correct directories. 11. DO NOT LAUNCH ARIES WHEN YOU'RE DONE INSTALLING BY CLICKING THE CONFIGURATOR. WE WILL COME TO IT. 12. Launch Teamspeak, go to Settings -> Plugins. At a minimum, Aries, AppScanner, and ClientQuery should be checked. For all others, you know if you're using G15s, etc, and if this is needed. 13. Back on the TS menu bar, Check the Plugins -> Aries Radio -> Export.lua entry on/off feature. It should be working now, and showing Aries as Connected to DCS World. 14. Now close TS, right click the Aries Configurator -> properties, and set it to run as administrator. 15. Now launch the configurator, it will build. Configure your PTTs as necessary. 16. Test. 17.* don't forget to re-install Tacview, if you removed it. Again... these steps have worked for even the most frustrating installations within the 476. @Towsim now that we're stabilizing at the 476th, we still stress test (10+ users) when able, and report back. So far, so good though. Thanks for your help.

No Joy, Towsim. The issue remains, although I only tested with one of the affected members.
-
I checked the logs of both members who I tested with, one isn't generating logs in that directory at all, and the other's log doesn't have the entry you posted. Is it possible your version has a more verbose output for debugging? We will happily take the new version to try it anyway to see if it resolved the issue.

Towsim, We're having an issue with several members, where Teamspeak begins to violently crash. The scenarios where this happen are various. Teamspeak creates a dump, which I've examined, yet it only points to an Access violation. To be clear, this does not happen without Aries enabled. I was experiencing the crashing myself, though it stabilized for me. However, several other members are currently experiencing the TS/DCS crashing, and I was able to narrow it as follows: 1. The other member and I log onto a mission (both our DS and self host). 2. We turn on our A-10 radios... all is fine. 3. he can transmit to me on all radios just fine. ----- 4. The first time I transmit to him, as soon as my transmission is complete, TS crashes for him. Every time. We tried with other players to remove me as a potential problem, same issue. I have taken this issue as far as I can on my own. I believe several other members are experiencing the same, though I tested with only him to isolate. Let me know if I can provide additional info. As always, Thanks in advance, -dojo

Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
Dojo replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
And all I wanted was the AT-802A. Geez, Developers NEVER give me what I want. Sigh. Time to start supporting No Code Simulations. -
Um, can I have your autograph please? :music_walkman:

Leatherneck Interview! Episode 5 is LIVE: L E A T H E R N E C K The ENTIRE Leatherneck Simulations team drops by the podcast so that we can get to know them. Take a listen here: Episode 5: http://www.476vfightergroup.com/content.php?285-Episode-5 I'd especially like to thank Nick (Cobra847) for his effort in making this episode happen. He's been extremely supportive, and behind the scenes, this guy is as big a fan of the community as we are of his team. Support Leatherneck guys... Leatherneck = Us. Also, we've got some *new* and quite simply amazing voice talent for our commercials, starting in this episode. We'll let you guess for a couple episodes as to who that might be. As always, please enjoy! Temporary Note: the Leatherneck site is temporarily suspended, but will be up again soon. For now, check out the latest at Leatherneck in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=136883

Towsim, the 476th thanks you tremendously for your effort. We will attempt to test thoroughly and provide helpful feedback if necessary. To you and all members of the 10th, Happy Holidays and a prosperous new year.

Indeed. The new monitor is 2560x1600, the old was 1920x1200. I'm running the latest drivers already, but I most certainly will wait for your update before tinkering further. Thanks for the response, it provides excellent context for the problem which I couldn't rationalize previously.
-
Thanks for the reply, Esac_mirmidon, but this is not my problem. The crash happens for me regardless of TS being opened or closed. I'll be updating my post momentarily by attaching log files.

Towsim, I installed a 30 inch Dell monitor today. Upon loading single player or multiplayer missions with Aries enabled (i.e. connected via Export.lua), upon unpausing, DCS crashes 100% of the time. Switching back to the older 24 inch, no problem whatsoever. With Aries disabled (i.e. disconnected via export.lua) the 30 inch works fine as well. I'm completely at a lost. An Aries re-install was attempted to no avail. Fullscreen and Windowed mode were both attempted. All results in DCS crashing. OS: Windows 8.1 Pro Monitors: 5 (1x Dell 3011, 2x Dell 2005FPW, 2x Lilliput USB monitors). I've been running a 5 monitor configuration forever with no problem. Again, DCS works fine on the 30 inch with Aries disconnected. Quite literally, the only thing that has changed is the resolution of the new monitor. Ideas? (logs attached) Dojo Logs.zip

Hi Woog, I don't, and I'm not sure if any members of the 476th do. We use our own web forum for private messaging, forum posts, event coordination, a document repository, and mission planning. Pretty much everything we want to do as a squadron. Much of our forum is also open to non members, including our downloads section. And of course, we have a dedicated Teamspeak server. As I'm unfamiliar with the Steam community features, can you tell me what you believe it offers that would be a benefit? New Episode out shortly...
-
Thanks for the interest, Flagrum :) Yes, ep 4 is in post production. I'll have it out hopefully today, but no later than tomorrow. Holidays threw us off.

I just checked the podcast garden site, it's fine for me (perhaps there was an issue earlier). The last episode was the VEAO interview, (Episode 3). 4 should be in the works soon. You can also try here: http://www.476vfightergroup.com/content.php?257-podcast btw, great job at VFAT! I'm targeting the mission design episode for #5. Did Joyride reach out to you yet?

Strange... iTunes isn't supposed to be separated by region/country (just language). In any case, you can still subscribe from your device or computer by manually entering the RSS link. The iTunes store just provides a friendly/pretty way of doing it. Follow the instructions in my post here, and please let me know if you have problems. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2213887&postcount=10 Thanks for your interest!
-
@Looney, Can you try an uninstall/reinstall, like I describe here? http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2235832&postcount=641 It would be good if someone else could confirm this resolves the issue for them as well.
