  1. I'm trying to get more stable FPS. I get great framerates in open air but it dips a little too much for comfort when I'm in graphic heavy areas with lots of objects or when there are many explosions and such.
  2. I get it, and I think DCS depicts the Mustang well. There's room for improvement and that's why we have these threads. Hopefully the developers look at these conversations once in a while. I know at least the moderators keep them somewhat up to date. I'm confident there will continue to be progress.
  3. Interesting and very helpful. I got another one ;) If you're running two different cards in Crossfire which one should you make the Master Card?
  4. While your points may be valid, it increasingly feels like "GrapeJam" might be a second account you're using to rip on the DCS Mustang. Just a feeling... :music_whistling:
  5. If you Crossfire or SLI two cards both at 256-bit will it give you twice as much bandwidth as one 256-bit card? And if so will that mean that at least the mirrored vRAM is being optimized a lot?
  6. Ok that's what I was getting at. Thanks. What if you Crossfire two cards with different amounts of memory? Which amount is used?
  7. I see. Another question: If you start with enough memory and add more, will you see improved framerates in any instances? Lol, you sniped this question. Let's say the card is at 256-Bit.
  8. I'd love to give the Hawk a try!
  9. I'm at 1920x1080, but what about other resolutions or multi-monitor setups too?
  10. @ SnowTiger While I agree with you that the speed advantage of the Dora, seems to me, to be not quite right, I think your link isn't relevant enough. It only provides a good comparison of the P-51B and the Fw 190A, the wrong models. It mentions our model of Mustang but doesn't go into any details. On a different note, I think GrapeJam made a good point about the fuel types.
  11. How important is video memory for DCS? I know that it will cause issues if you do not have enough memory, but for example, if you have a video card that has 2GB of video memory, would you see a performance increase in DCS if only its memory got upgraded, let's say... to 4GB?
  12. Found this after looking for a bit. They don't actually say which versions they were talking about though. It seemed to me they are talking about late war models. This snip is from American Warplanes of WWII by Colonel John D. Current. The first quote is originally from Fighter Tactics and Strategy, 1914-1970 by Edward H. Sims. I don't know if the second quote is originally from somewhere else.
  13. Take-off Fail The best one of my many take-off attempts.  Dora Take-off Fail.trk
  14. True. It's looking like my next thread is going to be "Budget computers for my friend that will run DCS"
  15. Thanks guys. EtherealN if you give me a few days I'll head over to his house and get the exact specs. It's a desktop so you know. If he wanted he could put some better parts in it, couldn't he?
  16. He has an HP Pavilion from 2011. He's not too computer savvy so he doesn't know what model it is, but it's definitely a budget one. I figure he can't expect much from it, but he might upgrade it in the future... What do you guys think? Any hope?
  17. Thanks for responding. :) I'll ask him and get back to you.
  18. I read a nice article today in Combat Aircraft monthly about the new rollout of the AH-64E Guardian. It sounds like the main improvements are the significantly increased performance of the engines and the new Instrument Meteorological Conditions capabilities. Pretty sweet. :gun_smilie:
  19. I've been trying to get my friend into DCS for a while. He's very interested but he can't run the game well enough to enjoy it with his dinosaur hardware, and he can't really afford to spend money to upgrade yet. I'd like to tell him that EDGE might optimize performance enough where DCS might become somewhat playable for him but I really have no idea about that. Does anyone have a more confident answer about this? (I know it's really just speculation, but I'd like to give him some hope if any can be found...) Right now he can only get around 11-13 fps with all settings on Low.
  20. Looks cool  Those F-86's are gonna have a hard time though. Weakest A-A weaponry and no RWR. What time zone is the server in?
  21. I guess I need to check out the updated in-game manual. They should update one on the forum too.
  22. What about this from what TwighlightZone said from the manual:
  23. That was my first guess. They forgot the "not implemented". Regarding emergency use of manual MBG mode I found this in the manual (pg. 99): Flight Emergencies: Power Plant Failure -In case of a failure of engine regulator automatics, retard throttle towards idle as much as possible and pull emergency pull to the right of the fuel shutoff valve. Keep engine power to as to as little as possible in order to avoid engine stresses. -When emergency pull is pulled, engine speeds higher than 2700RPM are prohibited. -In case of falling oil pressure indication, landing has to carried out immediately, if possible. -In case fuel vapors enter the cockpit, switch off fuel tank pumps, don oxygen mask and slightly open the canopy. Report leakage after landing. -In case of a failed fuel pump, flight may continue to the next airfield at low RPM, using both fuel tank pumps. It was just really vague. "fuel shutoff valve" = Fuel Tank Selector Lever "emergency pull to the right" = MBG Emergency Mode Handle :) I still don't know if there are other uses or why it is used for emergency take-off power though...
  24. Thanks for the answers guys. Looking at the manual again, it seems to me that the main purpose is to allow the engine to run at higher boost pressures with a lower throttle setting. I guess the real question is what type of emergency would cause you to have to do that? It seems weird to have a situation where it'd be necessary to run the engine at higher pressures for, seemingly, the same RPM. In general, think the manual needs a little more work. I read through it and I feel like I still don't know what all the controls are for. For example, I don't remember reading anything about the "MW-50 to Fuel Handle of water-methanol tank" shown in the left side legend. (I've been using the manual from the forum (updated 9-5-14) maybe the game folder version has been improved since then...)
  25. I guess I don't really understand what the MBG Emergency Mode does. The manual didn't explain it very much. What does it do in normal, automatic mode? What is the proper use in manual mode? What is the difference in use between this and MW-50?
