Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Ultra replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It's hard to remember, but I think VEAO gave a vague statement saying the F4 was looked into but 'wasn't a viable project' or something like that. I got the impression they ran into the same problems as with the A-4 and it was nixed even quicker. I could be wrong about that though. I'd bet someone will make it eventually, but not for a long while. :( -
sniperwolfpk5 - I'm not sure that I want to try candle wax just yet as it sounds a little messy, but you did make the light bulb go off in my head. I had thought the friction was coming from the plate rubbing on the base. It's actually coming from the sides of the plate rubbing on the shaft. I think I'm going to try to get some grease like you said BTTW-DratsaB. That seems to be what the manufacturer originally used and it has since mostly rubbed off causing the increased friction. Thanks guys

Ahh yes, that's right. -

Believe me the Phantom (alongside the F-16) is one of the most wanted planes for DCS, but I think VEAO looked into it and the company that owns the Phantom (I forget which company, is it still McDonnell Douglas?) wasn't offering a very good licensing deal, IIRC. -
My X52 joystick has too much friction where the spring tension plate, that keeps it centered, contacts the base. This leads to a sticky, jumpy feeling when trying to move the stick very slowly and smoothly. Is there a quick lubrication or other fix for this? I already tried silicone spray. It didn't seem to help much. Thanks, Ultra

This is what I said in the Spring Sale thread. I don't think they are making it now, but one can hope :D. It would make a great counterpart to the coming Mirage, I think.

Thanks, I think I did see this before and just forgot about it lol. I think an F-5 would be a cool addition, if they're even considering it.
-
A big hint you think or just a tease? Oh I didn't see that interview. I'll look it up now!
-
What's the plane in the Email picture? I know I recognize that rear end. :smilewink:

That's pretty funny, I guess I'll have to keep it a secret, lol. Thanks NeilWillis!

Thanks for the links Vampyre, I think I would be happy flying jets or helicopters, but combat platforms definitely interest me more. I'll have to research more to pick a #1 choice. I chose not to do ROTC as I am pursuing an Engineering degree and I didn't want to pile too much work on. I don't think I'll have a problem with service life, but I guess it's hard to know until you're in it. I'm not just in it for the potential flying, I've been interested in the military my whole life so I don't think the duties of being an officer would bother me. The thing I'm most worried about is the competition. I guess in the end somebody is going to get cut from what they most want to do, I just don't want it to be me! :joystick:

Thanks Buzzles, I figured there were posts like this out there, but there's so many threads to look through and so little time. :D Very interesting stuff!

This thread is mostly for fun ;), but I'm almost finished with my Junior year of college and I'm starting to seriously consider joining an Officer Training program for a branch of the US Military. My goal being to become a pilot. I've been thinking about which branch I would possibly join and what I would want to do (or fly) most if I succeeded. I haven't done much hardcore research yet, but I know there are a lot of smart people on this forum that could enlighten me more. Does anyone have advice or wisdom on the subject they would like to share with me? :pilotfly:

Ok, fair enough. Thanks for the response. :)

Everything said recently is all fine and good, but no one addressed my idea. ;) I think it would be a happy compromise between all parties. It wouldn't disturb the "quick fight" crowd at all. :dunno: :)

slowly becoming my preferred ww2 module in DCS...
Ultra replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I'm starting to feel this way too. I really like the available power. In both the engine and the cannons! Really nice to fly once you stop smashing into the ground on takeoff and landing. :D -
IMO, with the amount of people the 104th get regularly, it never seems uneven to that extent. I think a small balancing element would be all that's needed to smooth out any major discrepancies.
-
I thought of a fairly simple idea that may appease both sides of the "True Red v Blue" argument. What if you guys made Blue A-A only F-15's and made Red A-A mostly Russian with a few F-15's, maybe about 5. The A-G doesn't matter so much and could remain unchanged. This way the missions become primarily "True Red v Blue" but still have a small factor to balance the teams. As mentioned before, I think a small balancing factor would be all that's necessary to maintain good team numbers. What do you guys think? :music_whistling:

I'm almost positive. Yo-Yo, confirm? :D
-
Another note, if you pull a turn too hard it can cause deformation (or fatigue?) damage in the wing. This can cause it to break with less G's on the next hard turn.
-
Just turn this project into a remake of "b17 the mighty 8th"

Lolz, thread = 1 out of 5, would not read :megalol: -
I agree with this statement too, but that's not the only reason to want real Red v Blue. I just enjoy fighting in more plausible scenarios. On the WWII servers they choose to not put Nazi planes on the Allied side, even though you could argue they have slight advantages in the most common online dogfight scenarios (i.e. Low Altitude)
-
Hey Maverick, I'd like to say great job with the server and I really like the different weather we've been having in there. :) I'd also like to say I would enjoy seeing true Red v Blue. For the same reasons mentioned previously. Even though the numbers might be somewhat unbalanced, I'm sure you creative mission designers can find ways to even the odds or even just encourage people to fly Russian using the layout of the mission. It doesn't hurt to try, I have faith.

Well, this update would be more concerning the other two mystery planes since the F-14 announcement already showed us their progress on that.
