SP - Su-27 Campaign - Battlefield Krasnodar
ruddy122 replied to ruddy122's topic in User Created Missions General
Tiny, The first mission is a little harder than it looks. 1) You need to fly the "Black Line" follow the waypoint headings exactly on the HDD. If you do not you will hit one of the Trigger Zones and have a 4-ship of Foxbats looking for you. (You can still complete the mission though if you did that). 2) Plan to fly your low level at 900-950 KMH, if you fly faster than that you will not give time for your friendly forces to knock out 30% of the targets in the recon area. (You need this for mission accomplishment) 3) The intercept is by far extremely challenging; you are doing a rear aspect intercept so you have to be quick about it or a) You will run out of gas or b) the bomber will reach it's objective. I made this campaign challenging to push every capability of the Su-27. Hope this helps. -

Hey Chicki, The Key to this mission is to not stray west of waypoints 1 and 2 while attacking with the IRST system of the Flanker. What is happening is that you strayed into the Hawk Acquisition Radar Zone and you are tripping the fighters to attack you. This mission makes you keep aware of where you are and employ IR Weapons of the Flanker. Hope this helps I'll do the trk file soon Cheers -

Mainstay, You may have completed the mission faster than your friendly ground assets have knocked out 30% of the vehicles in the staging area or you did not get the entire air group. I usually fly the route between 800-950 Km/h to give the ground assets time to knock the enemy ground targets out. Also the trk file I made may help. If there are any other questions please let me know. Cheers -

Hi Everyone, Here is a .trk file of the first mission for Battlefield Krasnodar. My low level flying was a little sloppy as I got distracted which sent more airplanes than I wanted but hopefully the .trk file will show how strong a well flown Su-27 Flanker can do.:smilewink: As you know .trk files are not an actual replay of the mission but are extremely helpful in mastering your jet. Cheers, Battlefield Krasnodar MSN01.trk -

Boxin, Thank you for the kind words. I would like to see your mission track to see what is going on. There are no mission triggers that enable system failures that I know of. I will fly the first mission campaign tonight or tomorrow and I'll post the mission track which may help others in completing the first mission. I know that the Su-27 does not like negative G's for more than 2 seconds before you flame them out, but that's the only scenario I've seen. Anyhow I'll fly the campaign and see what's going on. Cheers, -

Chicki Mission 1 is designed to test your pilot skills in low level flight and air to air combat Couple of hints 1) Follow the mission messages through out the flight 2) Do not fly sloppy if you bust altitude you will get shot at which is no fun 3) Backfires fly solo they are never in formation this may help picking them out visually or on radar. 4) Lastly, You need to maximize your climb and speed to catch these high flyers Please let me know if you want some more helpful hints on this campaign. My goal is for others to learn the flanker and master it. Best of Luck -

SP - Su-27 Campaign - Battlefield Krasnodar

Hi this is a feedback thread for comments and areas to improve this campaign I created. Thanks -
I would like to see a true multi-role Flanker with Guided Munitions like the Su-30M2 or Su-30SM Cheers
-
truebrit, I have seen this before, if the Su-27 was damaged on takeoff roll or in flight. Also depending on your loadout, it will lean to the heavy side if you have an assymetric load in weapons. The latest update mitigated some of the roll effect. Hope this helps

Ironhand, Darkwolf, Thank you for the advice and how the .trk files work in DCS. I found a pretty good website which helps describes some of the weapons systems we encounter in DCS http://www.ausairpower.net Again, thanks for the help. Lucky

One more quick question. I replayed the track I made of the successful mission (lone survivor3.trk) I had and tried to replay it but this time the .trk file had a different outcome. Is there a logic to the DCS World system I don't understand, or is it the computer plays the scenario out and the outcomes are always different. Any thoughts? Lucky

Iron Hand, Thank you for the advice. I attached the latest mission track and I think I did that a couple of times and it worked. Also I noticed that as soon as you launch the R-27ER and Crank Left or Right it buys me enough time and space to attack with the R-73. Hopefully in a couple of days I will post this SP mission if anyone is interested. Thanks, Lucky Lone Survivor3.trk

Hi, I've been tinkering with the Mission Editor on a User Created Mission Campaign for the Su-27 and I wanted an opinion on the MiG-21's R-3R capability FC3. Su-27 has the R-27ER/R-73 and the MiG-21 has an R-2S and R-3R It happens when it is a 2 vs 1 scenario where I launch the R-27ER around 14km and begin to crank away from the formation for SARH Guidance til impact. I then switch to Close Combat Mode (BORE) to engage the MiG-21 wingman head on with an R-73. At 4-5km I launch an R-73 head on and the MiG-21 fires the R-3R at the same time. I perform a hard break perpendicular to the MiG-21 with chaff but the R-3R guides and impacts the Su-27. I believe my tactics are the root cause but also asking if the R-3R is that maneuverable in real life. I'll post the mission track shortly. Thanks, Lucky

I agree, I too like the new model and I know it will get improved over time but what I like about it is that you have to adjust your tactics based on what the flight model can give you which gives you more challenges to solve during your mission. Like Chief1942 stated, I also believe that ED earned my trust and confidence in their ability Cheers,

Issue with refueling after no fuel shutdown
ruddy122 replied to Knowlynn's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Knowlynn, I was a little confused at first when I started to re-arm and refuel with this version of the Su-27. What worked for me is to confirm that all engines are off RAlt+End and RCtrl+End and that the electrics are off RShift+L and then rearm and refuel will work normally. Cheers, -
Is there a recommended Joystick Sensitivity Settings specific for the new Su-27 Flight Model I'm using Leatherneck's recommended settings for the MiG-21Bis and the Su-27 feels a little more stable. The following recommended settings are documented below Pitch Roll Rudder Deadzone 1-3 1-3 1-5 Saturation X 100 100 100 Saturation Y 100 100 100 Curvature 20-25 10-25 20-25 I used the top limit for Deadzone and Curvature and the Su-27 became more stable, I'm also not using AB as much because it feels the engines are a little bit overpowered. Any thoughts, Lucky

I don't know if this a 1.2.11 or Su-27 bug but the Localizer and Glide Slope will not activate when selecting LNDG mode. I tried landing at Senaki on Runway 9 and selected landing using the 1 key and no indications for localizer and glideslope. Thanks Lucky

Hi Everyone, The trim works in both modes but there is also a trim reset feature if you over trim and can't get the aircraft re-trimmed. The Keyboard combo I found was LCTRL+T to reset the trim Hope this helps, Lucky

Su-27 Open-Beta chit-chat and first impressions!
ruddy122 replied to JulienBlanc's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Hi Everyone, Personally, I believe the new Su-27 is fine for now. One of the unique characteristics of the ED folks and what I have seen with 3rd party guys like Leatherneck Sims is that they will respond to feedback and will try their best to update their products in the next release. The ED folks have seriously tried to take the video game perfrmance out of the FC3 Su-27 and try to add more realism by adding limits on how far the aircraft can be pushed. Complex simulators from civil airliners to hi performance jet fighters are constantly updating their flight models which take time (years as a matter of fact) and lots and lots of money (millions of dollars) to achieve the level of realism demanded by the customer. What I've seen from the Su-27 beta is that you need a gentle hand, need to stay ahead of the aircraft, and you need to understand the limitiations of the model to effectively employ the aircraft. These are the same principles any real pilot will use when flying Cessnas to heavy airliners and fighters. Eagle Dynamics will fix the bugs but it will take time. Cheers Lucky -
When flying the F-15 in FC3, I found Aerobraking is great and will help prevent your brakes from heating up. I try to hold 10-13 degrees nose up till around 100 knots before I lower the nose and engage the brakes. The key is to land in the first 500 ft of runway. A good friend of mine who was a former Eagle Driver said that your aimpoint was 500 ft short of the runway until its time to flare to ensure you land within the first 500 ft. It takes a little bit of practice but once you get it its great Cheers
