How many modules are you REALLY proficient at?
Celestiale replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
all of the Gunfighters: 109, 190, Mustang, Sabre (don't own the Mig yet); it's pretty similar to fly gunfighters, no matter if two-bladed wooden prop or jet engine. The same rules and tactics apply every time. Right now learning the F15, but really struggling with BVR combat..now that's a whole new thing. -
set your FoV to 90°max, and there are no deformations. I'll do it with every plane. Don't understand the wide standard FoV either, but it's like it is. To adjust your FoV, look here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=138221

I would like those random failures. For all planes then. Frequency bound to the historic reliability of the particular planes. Would be at least one thing where the Pony pilot could smile :)
-
when you are only after performance, you'll stick with the 109 for sure. It's by far the easiest to score kills in this plane both off- and online. You don't even need your MW50 even against an Expert AI..there are only 3 piston-planes from WW2 (who all 3 didn't see combat) who can match the K4. Bearcat, P47N and P51H. La7 perhaps in very low altitude. In addition the MK108 makes it more or less one run-up, one kill.
-
I prefer the 190 because of 2 reasons. First one is because the 190 is my favourite plane in general (prefer the A though). Second is i don't like to fly the K, because it doesn't have the "workhorse" character for me. It wasn't very likely to encounter a Kurfürst in '44. I prefer to fly workhorses like the Mustang, Thunderbolt or the 190, who were used in larger numbers (at that time). Would have prefered the G10 or G14.
-
Ok, didn't know the Rpyal Navy Stuff. But it, and also the P40 are completely useless in the current plane setup. There is really no point..only use would be for ground pounding. So i hope they have another (not so advanced) WW2-scenario in mind..
-
Pearl Harbor would be a little dull i guess...because you only have one side, you don't have any opponent stuff, neither in the air or on the ground. It was just a bombing without resistance. Don't see the point beside a ground-pound tutorial maybe. But i would really relish a Pacific scenario. Would be definitely ma favourite. Completely agree with RoflSeal, Guadalcanal would be the best scenario by far. You have both land-based stuff like the P40 (which is already in work), the P38, or the Ki43 + tanks and stuff at the ground to attack, and you also got marine stuff like the F4F (also already in work), Avenger, Zero, maybe even Waterplanes like the Rufe, and the respective boats and ships to attack. Beside that, if not for a Pacific Scenario, i don't see the point of the Wildcat at all. They can't throw this plane into the Europe'44 scenario, would be ridiculous in both historical and performance-related relation.

Which aircraft are you most interested in?
Celestiale replied to Griffin's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Beside the already confirmed planes, i'd like to see the 190-A and the P-38 the most. -
[To the Devs] Please let us alter the .lua in 1.5
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Thx that worked. What irritated me, was that i could edit the .lua inside the game folder, but it didn't have any effect in the game. When i dragged it onto the Desktop, i saw the original value, and not the one, i edited. I guess the values you see inside the game folder are just placeholders, to keep people from editing. Thanks a lot! -
Doesn't fit the current plane setup at all. If, then only in tandem with the Hayate
-
Today, after a lot of pleasant anticipation for 1.5 i had to realize, that you can't edit the .lua files anymore. That was a huge blow for me, because i used to alter the view.lua for all my planes. The reason is pretty simple. I am using TrackIR, and a Zoom-Slider, and i am not at all getting along with the zoomed-out mode. Those 140° are way to much alongside TrackIR, because when you are moving your head with this FoV, everything around you is just a distorted mess. In a dogfight that is deadly, because when the environment, parts of the plane etc. are constantly visually moving and bending around, it's impossible for me to keep track of the target. Because of that i used to limit the Max FoV in the view.lua files from 140 to around 90, where the Fish-eye effect stops, and the game looks natural. Now after downloading 1.5, at first i altered the view.lua in the savegames, like the txt file in the config folder told me to do. Nothing happened in game, still Fisheye. After that i altered it in the game folder. Still no effect in the game at all. Please Devs, let us at least alter this view.lua. Bad enough that you can't change the FoV in game. But making it impossible to alter it in the lua kills the game for me, right now. And i was so much looking forward to 1.5...
-
Is it possible that this is no longer/not possible in DCS1.5?? Tried to edit my View.lua files, tried to edit my server.lua file, both in the In-Game Folder, and in the save-game folder. Nothing happens. The game doesn't recognize anymore, that i am changing stuff. Highly annoying. Can't enjoy the new update at all, because this 140° fish-eye view with TrackIR is just a pain. Does anyone have a workaround for this for 1.5? Pretty disappointed right now. Also that there is still no feature in-game, where you can set your maxed-zoom-out FoV.

Totally agree with the point you made about the (modern) map. But luckily we all know, that the Normandy Map is coming, what will be a proper WW2 map, with everything that goes with it. So i guess we just have to be patient a little longer. I think as soon as it's out, the WW2 part of DCS will get a huge boost. To your other point, the AI planes, i have one opinion, and one (possible) suggestion. I agree with you, that it's not fun, to fight against AI planes, but in my opinion the worst thing is the AI's damage model. While the DM is nearly perfect in multiplayer, the AI planes are just flying tanks. No matter how often you hit them, they just keep flying like nothing has happened. Normally it takes one 30mm or 20-40 0.5cal hits to down a WW2 fighter aircraft (in multiplayer that's accurate). Against AI it happened to me, no kidding, that i had to put 20 30mm bullets, or 500(!!) 0.5cals into an aircraft to down it. Until this point they kept flying like nothing happened. For me that makes flying against AI completely useless, makes no sense. I uninstalled DCS a while ago. But now with 1.5 here comes my suggestion. I didn't try it so far, but the Devs said that Multiplayer performance will get better. So if that's the case, just hop onto a server, and have some fun against human pilots. The level isn't too high on most servers, you should have fun with any plane there :). (as soon as the performance is right - i will definitely come back to this Sim, as soon as the MP performance is right)

Wanted to ask this in the FAQ, but realised that this thread is closed. So i guess i have to start this new thread with it's own topic. Simple question: I just downloaded 1.5, and all the moduls i own, because i uninstalled DCS a while ago. If i now click on the exe.files of the moduls, it says that i need 1.2xx installed. Is there some workaround where i can install them directly into the 1.5 folder, or do i have to install 1.2 also? I'd like to avoid that, because i have pretty limited space on my harddrives. Thanks for your answers
-
ok, all right, thanks for the answer. Guess i have to test it then, when it's out.
-
Sorry, if this was asked before, but i couldn't find it so far. Will the multiplayer performance (especially when shooting tracers) already be better with Update 1.5, or is this a 2.0 thing? Thanks for your answers

Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Fully agree here. I get the easiest kills of those 3 aircraft definitely with the Mustang. As soon as you are at a German's 6, the kill is most definitely yours, when the German got no help. In the following conditions [position at enemies 4-8 o'clock, range ~1km, slightly better energy state, enemy noticed you before shooting range] i would say my average kill time with the Mustang is 2-3 minutes, when the enemy gets no help. If i am flying a Dora or a 109 in the same conditions i often ned much longer, 5-10 minutes, sometimes even longer, couple weeks ago i BnZed Cpt.Rookie (Cheers) for 30 minutes and eventually had to go back because of fuel without killing him. When the servers got more populated, you definitely don't have so much time to kill an enemy plane, before getting attacked by his teammates. I think it's perfectly balanced, really don't understand the whine. And to be clear i fly the Mustang by far the most of the 3 planes so far, so i would definitely benefit if it gets buffed (150octane), but i really don't think that this is necessary. -

Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
No worries mate, didn't take it as an insult at all :). Yes of course, as soon as you start turning with the Schwalbe, you are pretty much dead. Acceleration won't even save you against a Buffalo :dontgetit: Also can't wait for this bird :) I think the Mustang is in no way worse then the German planes. Everyone has it's unique strengths, like you already said, it just feels awesome to fly the Mustang. I fly the Mustang most of the time, also because it's just "something else" then in the other flight sims, also like those 0,5 cal :) I have never felt any unbalance in terms of performance (like in BoS or Clod when you fly allies) Think the ACG is perfect, when there are not to many people online. Due to the very close airfields, you find enemies very quickly. DoW is rather for 25+ players i think, but then it's also good, with the ground attack stuff (sometime i have to figure out how to equip the plane with rockets or bombs :) ) awesome  hopefully that separates the wheat from the chaff a little bit :) -
Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Ok i make an inquiry at Bet365 ;) No kidding, i have way more fear off the takeoff or landing, then from enemy fighters in this bird. Hope the engine gets modeled properly, so you can't jerk your throttle around like you want. When i started simming in War Thunder (i know. Everybody has to start somewhere) you have been literally invincible with this plane against P51 or P47. And as arcade-like this game is, there are definitely not worse pilots (or lets rather call it players) when it comes to aerial combat, then in DCS Haha very funny :sorcerer: -
Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yes Veteran? I don't know where "veteran" starts for you. I think it's enough to handle the basics in aerial combat + read a proper book about tactics. That's at least how i did it. Started flight simming a year ago, and i think i fly pretty much every plane how it was supposed to be flown. But i would never ever call myself veteran :) But i am sure, without boasting, that in the 262 i won't get shot down beside 10 minutes after takeoff and 5 minutes before landing, i bet on it. Maybe once a month :) -
i hope your internal version gets released soon, bug is still there, despite 2 updates since i noticed this bug :)

Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I really hope we will see more then 12 planes aside, that would not be satisfactory at all. It definitely won't be fine in this setup, the Me262 would of course dominate pretty much everything. The only way for allied planes to harm the 262 is while it's landing or starting..or the pilot does really stupid things. If there are the same numbers of 262 like the other planes, they will just do sealclubbing until they run out of fuel or ammunition. For a 262 spotting is nothing else then for the other planes. I really really hope the mission makers don't include the Bearcat into WW2, it has nothing left there. They can throw it into the Korea war scenario as a replacement for the Corsair. I wonder anyway why the Bearcat is being made, which wasn't used in any war beside a few groundattacks in Indochina War, instead of proper WW2 planes like the Lightning or the Corsair. Anyway. I think a lot of planes to come don't fit into this '44 scenario, it won't be a good idea to include them all into one multiplayer scenario. I see planes like the P40 or the Wildcat just as "opener" for new scenarios to come, just as the P51 was for the last 3 years. -
Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I think AI Bombers are absolutely vital. I really really hope they get released the same time like the Normandy map. They are the only way to provide proper mission based gameplay on a public server. Even in the so called reference in online missions Cliffs of Dover, most of the time it's pure airquake on the public ATAG server. Every time i log in, flying a fighter, and go to teamspeak, the first question i ask is if anyone needs cover. Almost always the answer is no (because all 15-20 people who are on teamspeak fly fighters). The question you hear most of the time is "where is the fight", and when no one gives an answer, the next enemy airfield gets checked, and the so called "vulching" begins. With AI bombers in DCS, gameplay like this could belong to the past. Proper notifications for both sides, where the bomber formations are, the allies could cover them, the Germans attack those formations. This would provide gameplay, like it really happened in the past. At this time (late 44) over 90% of the aerial battles on the western front happened while attacking/covering the huge bomber formations. I would be OK with it, when this is the only gameplay in DCS for the next 3 or 4 years, because it's in my opinion way more interesting then just looking around for fighter targets. This way people would also be forced to climb to altitudes, where the planes belong, and not lawnmowing on the ground or the so called mid altitude like it is right now. This would also solve the "problem" some people seeing with the P47. Up there with it's turbocharger, the P47 would be the king, when flown properly. In addition it would solve the problem a lot of people seeing in spotting, because those huge bomber formations with their contrails would be seen from very very far away. In my opinion after releasing the next allied plane (don't mind if 47 or Spit) AI bombers are the most important thing to introduce in this WW2 scenario -

Celestiale replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Fully agree. Same in Battle of Stalingrad right now, it's pretty much 109 against Yak airquake right now. I think the system in DCS is very good, keeps it balanced, what is very important. Just imagine if anyone can take the plane he wants, it will be 50 Me262 against 50 allied planes, you can be sure. People definitely have to be forced with this list, we have right now, this is the only way to provide kind of a historical reasonable plane setup. -
Thx Lusi, i'll try that. First of all the distortions are already there, the fisheye look in zoomed-out mode is horrible. Second of all, to my knowledge you can't change the FoV without changing the Zoom. They are bound one to another. But i surely want to limit both the FoV and the zoom (out). So i just wanna cut off the last ~25% of zoom out. I'll try Lusi's way Edit: Thx Lusi, working perfectly. Fidelled around a little bit and using 112 now, for my screen the perfect balance bitween prettyness and usefulness.
