  1. I don't see where Hormuz is a combat map. Rather a vacation map to take out your yacht
  2. First real combat map? I think a war between Georgia/Abkhazia/Chechnya/Dagestan/Russia is way more plausible and realistic then between Iran and the Emirates
  3. I think in terms of realism, plausibility of war zones, and pure potential all the new maps are a pretty bad choice: NTTR - training map over the US. No war zone - civil map. Beside the city of Las Vegas nothing interesting to watch. They could at least have included the grand canyon, to make it more interesting, and airfields further away from the center, to make it suitable for a desert war scenario. The way it is right now, the only interesting thing i can see is taking the Huey out over the city, but that doesn't justify 50 bucks for me. Hormuz - some 700km to the west, and it would have been the perfect spot. With planes like the Mig21, 29, the confirmed Mirage F1, AI Migs and Su's, we would pretty much cover the whole Iraqi air force for both gulf wars, and the same goes for Iran with the F5 Tiger, Tomcat, F4. We could use the US stuff for Operation desert storm. The biggest aerial battle after second world war (1. gulf war) All of this on a small 300x300km map including Iran, Iraq, and Quwait..but no...we got straight of Hormuz..where probably never happenend anything. Pretty much carbon copy of the NTTR, civil map with one nice city to fly around....so much potential wasted Normandy - why? just why? The area around Normandy was one of the least significant in terms of air war in the whole second world war. The German planes we have like the Dora and the 109K never fought there..why not go 500km east, include Belgium and the Ruhr district, and have a map for both the Ardennenoffensive and the perfect spot for Reichsverteidigung, because till the end the Ruhr district was the main target of US bomber raids..109 K4 and Dora also have both been used in the Ardennes attack, and in Reichsverteidigung. Perfectly historical, plausible, and also a more interesting map with the Ardennes itself, and the huge urban area around the Ruhr. On top of that now Leatherneck apparently makes a map for Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima, where pretty much no aerial battle what so ever happened. There are so many really significant aerial battles in WW2 PTO. Battle of Coral sea. Midway. Truk. Also more then enough battles where the Corsair would fit in perfectly like Guadalcanal, New Guinea, or the Philippines. But in Iwo Jima only thing the Corsairs did was bombing rocks.. Really disappointed with the set of maps coming, a lot of potential wasted.

  5. When building Huey missions, i lately learned, that there are a lot of objects and ships, which are not substantial. Even the US carrier is just a graphic, when you try to land on it, you go right through it and hit the water within. Some other ships, mostly from the Russians, but also an US cruiser/destroyer is firm, and you can land on it. Some Russian ships which even have a heliport however are not firm/colidable, and again, you can't land on them. Carrier is working though. Weird inconsistency concerning this. I noticed the same with a building, when i tried to land on it's roof, i went right through it. Will the buildings and more importantly the ships be substantial to land on them, when the Black Sea get's converted to 2.0?
  6. thanks mate
  7. I noticed when watching youtube videos, that pretty much every Su27 there has an Enlish HUD (like ILL for radar etc.) mine is Russian, and the only thing i can change is to Chinese. Anyone an idea how i also get the English HUD? Thanks
  8. worked. thanks
  9. Doesn't work for me. I have both "Chinese" and "Standard" cockpit possibilities in options, but no matter which one i click, the cockpit stays chinese. Anyone know what could cause this?
  10. This is working automatically. My 2.0 used around 95% of the 1.5 files, and only downloaded the rest. Launcher is doing this anyway.
  11. great server :) first i thought, that visibility is bad, but i think it was on my side...second time all was good :) at least here you can find enemies..which visibility settings are used? i guess normal enlargement?
  12. I think small is not a good choice. First of all it's not realistic. IRL it's easier to spot planes, then enlargement set to small. It's also easier in other WW2 sims (1946, BoS, CloD). Second of all, you can't find anybody. I was on the server with 8 other people, divided in 4 and 5, and all i could see was airfield vulching. Players fly around, look for enemies, don't see anything, get frustrated, and then hover to the enemy airfield, to shoot down planes on the ground, and eventually gotten shot down by Flak. Gameplay wise that makes no sense at all. I'd really try to get some decent dogfights in DCS, but currently that's just not possible. Setting it to normal would not hurt anybody. In fact, it would definitely enhance gameplay, and spotting there is not overdone like when it's set to large. Please consider. In the current state it makes no sense to hop on your server, when one is looking for some dogfights. I'll gladly come back with different visibility settings.. Cheers
  13. Oh gosh, how awesome is that??? Can't wait for DCS 1946!! Bearcat, Vampire, Meteor on Allies, 262 and 229, and K4 on German/Axis...can't wait. Give me a time machine
  14. Ok, to be honest, i am not surprised, that it is this way, i thought the Mirage will be closer to the 21 then the FC3 stuff. Initially i had hoped, that we get the Mk2 (2000-5), but i guess it's all about data availability for the Devs..this kind of server seems kinda fun, i guess i have to get the 21 in the current sale. Waiting for the 2000 till it's finished. With the Tomcat we'll probably get one more plane for this scenario. Happy to hear that you can put it in the same wavelengths like the 21. After all, the most important (for me), is that we get an about even playing field with more then one plane.
  15. Started flying modern fighters, especially the F15 a while ago. But getting bored against the AI slowly, so i plan to start flying multiplayer pretty soon. So i am very interested, how the 2000 does against the FC3 fighters in multiplayer..anyone spend some sufficient time in it so far? I know most stuff on paper..BVR (if you even want to call it this way) capabilities are much worse then F15 and co due to non existant medium-range and/or fox3 rockets.. BFM should be pretty good due to the superior manouverability, but worse then Russians with their 73 and eye-lock.. dogfight probably superior to Su27 and F15, and on par with the Mig29 with better roll-rate, but worse turn rate, then the Mig.. how does this translate into the game? Some combat reports would be neat :) I'll definitely buy this bird, was always my favourite jet in my childhood days..only question for me is, if soon, or waiting for like for like adversaries...
  16. 10km is not enough. When you know where a plane is, and it's flying above you altitudewise, you should be able to spot them up to 20km away(if you find them of course)..contrails should be seen way further away..till around 40km at least. A limit of 10km is not realistic. At 10-15km i can spot every single engine of an airliner
  17. Thanks for the quick answers guys, appreciated :)
  18. Like already explained in the headline, is there any indication like a cockpit lamp or something, when the drop tanks of those birds are empty? I never know, when to drop them..
  19. I have the same problem as Blooddawn. Really disappointed, can't use my P51 this way...
  20. You seem to forget a few things here. 1. The "normandy" map will most likely come close to the German borders as well, when we take the size of the two existing maps as a reference. 2. Guess what - German fighters have been capable to fly over enemy territory..beyond the front line..even a few hundreds of km :shocking:. So it could have been possibly, that K4s have been over the Normandy, or at least close to the Normandy (Ardennen are barely 200km away from the east end of Normandy) as well, when intercepting/following enemy bombers. But point 2 is already untenable because of point 1. Comparing this to Corsairs, who have never been in an aerial engagement in the European theatre, who have never been over the European landmass is quite ridiculous
  21. Hmm...while i love this bird (second favourite fighter plane after the 190), i would have prefered to flesh out the 1944 Europe scenario first. What am i supposed to do with this plane? Flying around "over" Iwo Jima (takes less then a minute) and the vast ocean surrounding it, watching the beautiful scenery (ocean, you know)? As long as there is no Japanese counterpart (J2M, N1K ?) i am not interested at all..cause there is no real point. I think even the 1944 european theatre needs way more planes then the 3 right now..looking at the multiplayer numbers, it tells pretty much the story. Little disappointed regarding the progression of WW2 in DCS...any (3rd party) developer just seems to make his own thing, one throws in an old 1942 P40, here is pacific stuff, elsewhere a few 44 Europe planes..nothing fits together. In economic terms really not the wisest decision making...
  22. I want to go to Las Vegas :)
  23. Online? Okay..may i ask how much you paid for the cut plates all together? Cause i just bought the Warthog, and an extension (from you i guess ;) ), so there isn't to much budget left, unfortunately
  24. One question, how did you cut the metal? Did you do it yourself? Because if you use a metalsow the edges become very sharp. But yours look pretty smooth.
